In Singapore, airbnb is illegal as the regulation states that home/room lease periods have to be a minimum of 6 months. This is probably to do with taxation and traceability issues.
The article clearly stated and emphasised the entrepreneurs renting their rooms through airbnb and that their product stemmed from their need to have such locks. They use part of their house at Robin Close as their office, and rent out the rest of the rooms through airbnb.
