Shifra's Fish

Shifra is continuing to make adorable fish.  Some are her own designs.  I don't know how many she is planning to make so we will just have to wait and see.

Spring In Betar Illit

It's been a very short and mild winter for us here in Israel.  But that doesn't mean we don't appreciate the signs of Spring.  I enjoy walking down our main street and looking at all the blossoming trees.  I have Spring fever.

New Projects

Shifra is still with her new project of fish.  Here she shows more that she has made.  We still don't know what it is going to be.
Shifra did a search on the web for fish blocks and found the flying fish paper pieced block from quilterscache.com. She made some adaptions of her own. The other blocks are basically Shifra's own creations.

Shoshana L is starting a pillow.  These are the fabrics she has picked out for the 8 pointed star.

Avigail has started a new quilt for a grandchild using the same pattern that I resently used.

Sara brought her fabric for a new quilt.  There are so many beautiful fabrics that it's hard to decide on which ones to use.
Sara decided to make her kaleidoscope blocks into a wall hanging.  It will go into her guest room or sewing room.  The color is so beautiful and cheerful.

I also have 2 new projects on my design wall.  The first is a Postage Stamp quilt that will be given away as a comfort quilt for a baby.  Thanks again to Stephanie from Texas for donating these fabrics.  All the edges will have yellow and gold fabrics and I still have to decide on a boarder.
I'm expecting a new grandchild the end of this month so I've started a crayon quilt.  It will be framed with several layers of solid colors.  I have to get working on this to have it finished in time.

Comfort Quilt

I'm happy to say our 3rd comfort quilt is finished.  I don't know where it's going yet, but I'm hopeful that the child receiving this will enjoy it.

February Show and Tell

Today was a great day for show and tell.  It's wonderful when the ladies bring their projects for everyone to see.  It always makes us want to do more.

Shifra has started a new project.  It's a paper pieced fish.  She's not telling what it will be or who it is for so we will have to just wait and see.  This little fish is very, very cute.

Shoshana L has finished her hand pieced baby block quilt.  Her arrangement is unique and she is very happy the way it came out.  Shoshana is now very good at doing Y seams which many ladies shy away from.  Now she is planning to make a pillow for her living room sofa.

Renee S showed us her latest quilt top.  It isn't finished yet.  It's the first of two quilts for twin beds.  She is learning more about putting the blocks on point and making those extra triangles needed for the edges of the quilt.  Everyone likes the fabrics and was happy to see how fast it's coming along.

Shoshana R brought in a gift that she just received.  It's three flower needlepoint pictures that are already framed.  They were just lovely.  Everyone enjoys seeing any type of hand made items.  They are always the best because they come from the heart.

Rina brought in her completed Batik quilt that she made for her husband.  Everyone wanted a closer look at the front and back.

Rina also brought in a quilt that she is making for a very special person.  It had to be sandwiched to get it ready for Rina to machine quilt this week.  Everyone loves Batiks and each quilt is more beautiful than the next.  Here is the front and the back.  Rina and Sara have a friend that puts a special machine embroidered message on each quilt.

Sara's Kaleidoscope Blocks

Sara has started a new project.  She has made 4 kaleidoscope blocks and now is looking to see what she will do with them.  Make a wall hanging, pillow or even a table runner would be nice.  Sara only has 4 squares so the project won't be big.  She really enjoyed doing these blocks.

A very interesting and beautiful program is happening in the USA.

I encourage all quilters, worldwide, to get involved in such a wonderful effort.

February Get-Together

Shifra finished machine quilting her very large quilt for her daughter.  It's so nice when you can see all the quilting up close.  She did a fantastic job on this quilt and I'm sure her daughter will have many years of enjoyment using it.  The label was done in counted x stitch.

Renee S is starting a new quilt and she brought in a few of the blocks for us to see.

Some of the ladies had hand quilting or piecing to do.

Susan showed us the quilt that she is working on.  She was explaining to the ladies how she did the quilting and the machine embroidery.

Two of our charity quilts are finished.  We have already designated them for two children in Betar Illit that are very ill.

Quilt For Esther Rifka

I finally finished the quilt for my granddaughter today.  It's several weeks late for her birthday, but better late than never.  I give each of my grandchildren a quilt for their 3rd birthday.  The quilt finished at 53"x43".
This is the front.
This is the back.
I bought 4 meters of each of the four fabrics and I didn't have any fabric left over.

Our First Quilt-a-Thon -- Second Day

This week the ladies continued working on the quilts from last week.  Two are now being quilted.  Another is on the design wall and we started another called the Postage Stamp quilt.
This is the design wall.
This is Bryna

This is Sara and Renee B
This is Rina and Hinda
This is Shifra
And this is Shoshana L with Renee B
All the ladies work so well together.  It's such a pleasure to have this quilting group in my home.

Hinda's Jeans Quilt

Hinda just completed another Jeans quilt for a family member.
This time she only ragged the edges which made for a faster completion to the quilt.  These quilts are very warm and young people really seem to enjoy them.  Hinda you did a wonderful job once again.

Susan's Summer in the Park Quilt

Susan had a fantastic quilt for Show & Tell this week.  It's called Summer in the Park.
You can see a video tutorial on how to make it on the Missouri Quilt Company website.
If you have any questions about this quilt, Susan would be happy to answer any inquiries that you may have.  http://susanquilts.blogspot.com/
Her choice of border was great and her machine quilting was an inspiration to all of us that have not mastered this skill.

Our First Quilt-a-Thon

Monday, instead of our regular shiur (Bible Study) and quilting, we had our first Quilt-a-Thon.
We worked together from 9:30AM to 3:00PM with a short break for lunch.  It was wonderful to see the teamwork and cooperation we experienced in making the necessary decisions.  A very big thank you goes to Stephanie in Texas for donating these lovely fabrics!  Most of the fabrics used where from Stephanie's stash.  We hope to have our quilts go to children in crisis that live in Betar and Jerusalem.  We will be happy to except donations of any fabric or batting from your stash.
Starting on the left is Etty (me), Rina, Avigail, Sara, Bryna and Susan.  Chaya also came but didn't make it into the picture.
I have a small apartment, so we use all rooms.  My husband is often available in the study to do any computer, graphics, or printing requests.  We used the kitchen, living-room, sewing room and even the hallway.  This is Rina in my hallway.
These are the initial results of our Quilt-a-thon.
I captured a happy moment with Susan.  Maybe this is why she calls her blog Scrap Happy.  She is a happy, talented quilter.
Our goal is to finish these quilts next week and then to expand to quilts other than squares.  This was a great beginning for us.
