Thanks To Fran

I must say, quilters are wonderful.  Yesterday I posted about a new fabric that I bought and I immediately received a suggestion.  Fran responded by sending in pictures of two quilts that were made with this same floral fabric.  Now I have some ideas on what can be done with it.  First is a Four Patch Posy which I have never seen before.  To me it looks like a miniature Kaleidoscope quilt.  I think this would be easier to make and use less fabric than a regular Kaleidoscope quilt.  The lower right side of the picture is lighter because of the sunlight coming through the window.
This is called Warm Wishes.  The blocks are 6" finished and it would take about 1 1/2 yards of fabric to make a quilt 54"x54".  Thanks so much Fran.  Both quilts are lovely.  I appreciate your help.

I Love, Love, Love This Fabric

I have no idea what I will do with this fabric, but I just had to buy it.  The colors just blew me away.

I Always See Quilt Patterns

I'm still finding quilt patterns wherever I go.  This was on the ground in front of a building here in Betar Illit.  It looks like a modern quilt to me.
These are tiles in the house that I lived in before I got married.  Maybe this is where I developed the quilting bug.  I do love hexagons!

30 + Year Old Monkeys

Well, it's been more than 30 years since my sister Sandy made these sock monkeys for my children.  It's hard to believe that I still have them.  They are in great condition and ever so popular now.  When I look at quilt blogs they pop up in fabrics, bedroom accessories and stuffed toys.  Now I have them to share with the grandchildren.

What Is A Hemming Bird?

Well, leave it to my Mom to have one.  My Mother was just the best at sewing.  She could make anything; however, she never made quilts.  I think she left that for me, so I could shine at something.  Fortunately, my sister Sandy saved this for me and what a find it is.  I used it on my latest comfort quilt and it was so much better than pins and hair clips that I have used in the past.  It must be from the 1940's or 1950's.  It's supposed to be for making hems but from now on it's my favorite binding tool.

Quilts By Renee S

I may have missed the boat!  I think I failed to show you this wonderful quilt.  Renee made two for her twin beds and I never got a picture of them -- finished.  So here it is.
I do goof sometimes.  I like to get pictures of the quilts as the ladies are making them.  Often I get a picture of the top and don't post it because I'm waiting for it to be finished.  I don't always get a picture of the finished product.  Therefore I do miss posting some of our quilts.  It does get confusing and I want you to see everything that the ladies make.  Here is another one by Renee.

A Farmers Comfort Quilt

Another comfort quilt is finished.  A big thank you to Bryna for donating the panel.

I plan to give this quilt to a boy that is 1 1/2 yrs old with Cancer that lives in Betar Illit.
I wanted to put a little more of me in this quilt.  I decided to hand quilt red thread through the shashing strips with large stitches and I like the way it looks.

Fabric For Comfort Quilts.

This week we received fabric donations for our comfort quilts.  A big thank you to Bryna.  She made a friend in Geula and received fabric for us.  There are many longs strips here which will be perfect for bindings.
Sara's daughter Pam, gave us fabric from her community outside of Betar Illit.  There is so much wonderful fabric here, I don't know where to begin.  Thanks so much Pam!
Sara also gave us fabric that she thought we could use for the comfort quilts and I do agree.  These will be great. This has just been a wonderful week and we are so greatful.

Quilt For Isla

This beautiful little girl needs your help.  A quilt has been made to raise money to help pay for her medical treatment.  There is still time to buy a ticket to win this quilt.  Click on the link below to read her story.  I sent in a block and I hope the one from Israel is mine.  I so much want to help her and be part of this wonderful undertaking.

A Flower Pillow

My sister Sandy had this fantastic pillow on her sofa.  I fell in love with it right away.  I took a close look at it to see if I could figure out how it was made.  It's just a shape of a leaf made out of felt.  As it gets closer to the center the leaves just become smaller.  I thought this would be easy to make and I wondered how it would look if the leaves were different colors.  Well it didn't take long to find out.  I saw listed on someones blog a magazine with a picture of the pillow I was interested in making.  I do hope to get around to this someday.  One more item for my list of things to do.

Sara's Musical Quilt

Sara has used wonderful fabrics for this quilt.  If you look closely you can see all the instruments and musical notes.  The choice of gold and black on the ends really enhances this quilt.  Of course this quilt, when finished is going to someone with a high interest in music.

Do You Know What Kumihimo Is?

When I was in Philadelphia recently, my sister Sandy introduced me to Kumihimo.  It's a Japanese way of using yarn to make jewelry.
With this small disk and some yarn my sister made this braclet.
When I saw this, I just had to give it a try too.  It was fast and easy to make. I made the following.

A String Quilt By Shoshana L.

Shoshana made her first String quilt using pinks and purples.  She is still new to quilting and had to finish this quickly.  Shoshana did a very good job and you can see the results.  Here it is, on the table putting the design together just last week.
Here it is this week, all finished.

Another Comfort Quilt

I'm happy to say another comfort quilt is finished and has been delivered.  It was a delight to see the smiles on this 6 year old boy and his Mom.  This is why it's so important to make comfort quilts.  Thank you Shifra for putting on the binding.  Thanks to Susan for donating the panel.  The panel was rearranged and I think it turned out well.
And a thank you goes to my sister Sandy for donating the fabric for the back.

Susan's Pin Cushion

Susan saw the pattern for this pin cushion in the latest issue of  Fons & Porter.  The next time I saw her post on "Scrap Happy", the pin cushion was already finished.  The idea is when you see something you like, just make it.  That's the way to go.  I really like the fabrics that she used.
