Anyway, here are some band fest photos!!
That's us onstage at Esplanade! I love it when the photographer takes horns like that.Jiaying and me!
And these are all the RJ band people in Saint-Saens! We were the last band to perform and at 9'o clock sommore. Of course we got really sian and started exploring Esplanade backstage secretly.
Me and Yinxu!! Sadly, we are the only two from NYCB. Stupid HC ppl all in Thailand! Anyway, after the whole thing we went around looking for the conductors to take pictures with. Starstruck!
Here's us with Mr Alan Lourens. He's quite funny actually.
And his pronounciation of "breathe" really cracked us up unintentionally. You know, it's hard for Japs to pronounce the "th" sound so they pronounce it as "s". Hence, every time he says breathe, he says breas.
Therefore, when the flutes were soft he went "More breas more breas!". And when clarinets were soft, he shook his open palms at them and said " No breas?" Some more quotes goes like this "There are many different kind of breas. Big breas, medium breas..." "You cannot don't have breas." And the best of all was when we were all going to come in and he said, "1...2...3...BREAS!" And we all ended up sniggering and didn't come in.
Quite crude, yes, but nonetheless funny. Though is was not at all amusing after he repeated it quite a lot of times. But I will trust Jasmine Chua to make it a living legacy. "When you're flat, you have no breas." Works both ways -- literally, and in the context of playing.
The concert was not very good, although with a song like Copacabana, Saint Saens is very likely to be the best band. We totally screwed Joseph Cheung's songs by rushing like crazy (stupid trumpets! :() and our choral was so much lousier than rehearsals. I think it was the super long warm up that drained our strength. But the trumpets lived up to Copacabana and hurray! The atmosphere was great in the end and then that's it.
My esplanade pass! :) I'll keep it forever, I will. OH yes, and the background is indeed my messy table you see.
I love the Esply and it was my first time performing there. The madness of it actually, hearing how the hall made our sound so exposed and every crescendo and accent and mispitch is amplified for everyone to catch. But I still love it very much. With any luck, I wanna get a job there! :)
