Buried Alive.....

Someone help me!

I'm not sure who was more surprised today - me, the UPS guy or the Fedex guy. Rascal is pretty overwhelmed too but now he's enjoying himself by playing in all the empty boxes.

Here is a quick recap of what showed up today:

Lily Bee - 2 new lines from a BRAND new company. And their rubons are 12x12! Oh, and their little diecut frames - yummy!

Basic Grey - Lime Rickey and Wisteria - Basic Grey never needs an introduction but if you haven't seen Lime Rickey, head over to the NEW section to catch a glimpse!

Fancy Pants - All the new papers, rubons, stamps and diecut journaling books!

OKay, off to take a break and then I'll be back with pictures!

If you need some instant gratification, check out the NEW section or the gallery from CHA:

Take a look......

Technique - altering Prima flower

Today I am showing you how to alter a Prima Fiesta flower. Love these flowers.

Here's what you need:
1) a plain colour flower
2) inks (whatever colour you like)
3) Sponge
4) Stickles

Let's begin. Dab your sponge on the ink pad and rub it onto the flower. Try to work with little ink first.... build up from there. We want nice layers of ink... not patches... rub it gently... this will spread the ink better... and gives it a better overall look. Imagine we are applying blusher on our face. We dont want sudden patches... we want subtle build up of colours. LOL!

I only apply 1 layer of petals.... not every petal. This is really up to you. Cos I want some white (from the flower) to show.
Then I squeeze some stickles onto my fingers.
And I apply it to the edges. Again... very little. I dont want blobs of stickles on my flower.
Here is the close up shot. You get a subtle glittery effect.
Another look at the flower. See the purple inks showing and the subtle bits of stickles.
Tomorrow I will load in the gallery my LO with this flower.
Hope you enjoy this!

New Product and some announcements

Happy Sunday everyone!  My parents took my son to New York with them this week so I am baby free for 8 days!  I wish I could say I was enjoying it, but so far, I miss him.  I miss him bugging me while I fill orders.  I miss the fact that he isn't here to pull my mouse out of the PC so I can't reply to emails.  And its quiet.  No one giggling or playing with the dog.

I wish I could say I was being productive.  I'm trying.  Really I am.

Anyway, on to the new product.  I saved my favorite Cosmo Cricket line from CHA for last.  The Snorkel Line.  I already hoarded a few sheets of this line for myself and started working on a mini album for my dad.  He likes the mini albums for his desk at work.  When he gets bored or frustrated, he likes to look at them.  And trust me, he's been frustrated lately.

So I created an album for him that will get added on to over the summer.  I started out with some recent photos from our backyard fun a few weeks ago. The weather has been pretty warm here lately so we've been able to use the little pool a lot.  I left enough blank pages in this album to add photos as the summer progresses.  You can see more pages here.
Next week is going to be pretty exciting around here.  More details on that later.

Right now, some contests.

We have a Prima contest running now.  Make sure you visit the Gallery or the new Scrapbook Calls (formerly Pub Calls blog) to get all of the information.

Lily Bee Designs.  We should have our order from LB this week.  They are running a small contest and the winner will be their July Guest Designer!  How fun!  When they sent me the email for their new paper lines, I immediately had to have their diecut papers.  Unlike the other paper lines, these measure smaller and you get 4 different shapes on one sheet of 12x12 paper.  I can't wait for these to come in.

Guest Design Search for May/June - make sure you get your projects uploaded this week.  I will be making my decision early.  I'm leaving on vacation and won't be here on the 30th to chose the winner, so I'm picking them on the 26th.  This ensures that the winner will get their product to work with on time.

Quick Flower Tutorial

Here's a quick and simple way to create a flower that will match your pattern paper. All you need is a little scrap of the paper you wish to make the flower with.

Cut a circle out. A rough circular shape is fine, it does not have to be a perfect circle. Ink the edges of the circle after you cut it out.

Next, crumple the circle. You can further ink the edges of the crumpled circle to give it more depth.

Flatten the circle.

Pinch the middle portion of the circle as shown to give it some texture.

Finally, add either a button or a chipboard as the flower center.

Here is an example of the finished product. I used a small chipboard left over from my stash as the flower center to match my papers.

Easter Basket

Supply List to create:
An empty Basket
Paper Easter Grass
Styrofoam Eggs
Pink Paislee Pixie Sticks Glitter
Pink Paislee Chipboard Accents
Bazzill Flowers and other misc flowers
Buttons and Kaiser rhinestones
Chipboard letters
Misc Ribbon
1 sheet patterned Paper
Mod Podge and foam brush
Hot glue gun

Steps to Create:

1. First cut your patterned paper into even strips the size of the edge of your basket. My basket was 3" inches so I cut 3 3" strips. Then I adhered them together to make one long strip. Attach to your basket using a hot glue gun. Cut the excess off in the back and glue the seam together.

2. Coat your eggs lightly with Mod Podge. Cover in glitter. If you know a good way to do this without getting glitter everywhere, awesome. I used small tuperwares and poured the glitter in them. It worked ok. Remove eggs and set aside to dry.

3. Attach chipboard pieces to front and add flowers over them. Adhere a tied button with glue dot for center. Add Chipboard title and a Rhinestone for decoration.

4. Wrap handle with ribbon and tie off at ends. Add 2 more strips of ribbon on both sides. Hot glue a flower over knot and add Rhinestones for centers.

5. Fill basket with paper grass and add dried eggs. Enjoy your new decoration!

Tuesday Technique - Using Decorative Tape

Recently YSS brought in some cool products - decorative tape. Today I am going to show you 1 way to use it. I made a card with it.
You will need:
1) Decorative tape
2) Heat gun
3) a sheet of paper
4) Felt (optional) or another white paper
1) First, you place your decorative tape over the sheet of paper. I am making a card here so I cut it to size. I place it across the paper. Press down.
2) Next place your heatgun near the edge of the decorative tape. Let the heat comes to the sides, not over it. (hope I make sense...:)
3) You will notice the decorative tape curl up a little. Now, be careful with your heatgun. The decorative tape will curl VERY fast. Move your heatgun away, if needed.
If you want more curls, heat more..... you will notice the image from the decorative tape stays on the paper. I love this.... it looked like I have stamped on it. That's the beauty! And the curl part gives it some interesting texture.
4) Next, I cut a little cirle out from a white felt. You can use cardstock too. Then I cut a little bit of the decorative tape.
5) I place it over the white felt circle.
6) Next, I heat it. Again it curled up. And now I use my hands to manipulate it so it looks like a curl up circle. Heat till you are happy with the overall look/shape.

Then I assemble this onto a card:
I placed a die cut butterfly onto the circle, to make it pop-up.
Hope you had fun with this!
