So, this is twice-a-month thing, is it?

Brian K. has been semi-active recently (almost as active as this blog!). He does a really a good job of blending system parts and obscure technic offshoots.

A concept vehicle of his from last month. It has suspension.

Cute mecha time:

Blockhead Mecha

The first month of the Ghost in the Shell-inspired "Think Tank" build challenge has come to a close. It is to continue through April, but I hope to have a March round-up post on here before too much longer.

omg halo legos

Because everyone knows Lego models based on popular video games is a sure-fire way to get page views and geek cred.

MOCpages user Stephen Chao is a Tiawanese Lego builder. Both prolific and skilled, his latest model is based on a design from the acclaimed Halo video game franchise.

Chuck Citrin's "Petrel" light dropship comes to mind; it too was based on art from Halo:

Such SNOT!

Huib Versteeg's represents a Main Battle Tank from the Command and Conquer video games.

shamless pluggin'. sshhhh. from battalion wars.

Also, Ryan Wood is auctioning one of his models to benefit disaster relief efforts in Japan. Follow the links here to view and bid.

Fyeah

Shaping is brilliant, controlled two-tone colorscheme is thoughtful.

I also don't really know what this is:

Bartosz Kacprzyk is "the oneman".

Aleksander Stein

I honestly think that Aleksander Stein is the best military modeler, ever. The fact that his models are both detailed, functional, and that many of them have realistic camouflage color schemes, a difficult objective that a lot of military builders shy away from, places him at the top. They're system figure scale too, making them ripe for dioramas and displays.

Vehicular

Yummy space buggies from Cole Blaq and Tyler Clites, both incorporating the same windshield piece:

Planetary Explorer

Both models are excellent examples of detailing. Tyler's does a great job capturing the utilitarian look with the sand red(!) color scheme and soft-core greebling by way of exposed studs and prefab parts, and I adore the rear suspension on Cole's.

I've also been impressed by Lord Dane's recent hardsuit thing, especially the armament.

DRPA 1

Andreas H. (MOCPage, Flickr) throws down quite an awesome dio on a par normally reserved for adult fans, i.e. the likes of Goldman and Ried.

Fulla towers and bunkers and shtuff, as well as this nifty VTOL:

The asymmetric dual cockpit is saucy.

Click for the gallery, which includes the underground train station.

Bumblebee's Camaro incarnation from Transformers : Revenge of the Fallen.

Fully transform-able from vehicle to mecha mode, brilliantly executed by Firas Abu-Jaber.

Pierre Fieschi

I featured one of Pierre's builds last month, but since then his new flickr stream has filled up with some great stuff that deserve some coverage.

Most recently is a microspace carrier, which makes ingenious use of odd parts. As stated before the fanboys would go all "NPUUUU". The shape itself is fresh, a tubular shape with some greeblies sticking out the sides and front. Along with interesting textures Pierre incorporates lime as a secondary color, always a nice thing to see.

Pierre was also responsible for some pretty cool vehicular action a short while ago, think Jas Nagra meets Carter Baldwin in terms of style, whom happen to be two of my favorite builders.

2.09.2010

Well.

Despite it being tacked into a sub-theme that's already been dragged through muds of various kinds, this MOC is actually pretty original and well built.

I really like the incorporation of that canopy piece and the tire. By _nash.

Geoff knows the music.

Geoff Herndon, AKA Tekka Croe, has built a very nice ODST drop pod. The main reason this is the best one I've ever seen is that it's not a box: Geoff has actually given it some complex shaping. The second feature that stands out from many other Lego drop pods is that the doors hinge rather than just coming off.

As the next part of the quotation I used in the title goes, "time to dance." This is clearly applicable, because below is a video, and videos move, and people who are dancing move. Get it?

9.05.2009

Hey.

Here's AFOL Stefan's entry in the 2009 MOColympics over at MOCpages.com, a pair of cycles from the 1982 movie Tron.

Delightfully Spacey

That is the laconic collection of words I would use to describe this moon rover by Jordan Schwartz:

He based the rover off of this design, and motorized it, as well:

7.27.2009

Yukikaze, I guess.

Zak Hale (AKA Chaos Unit 178) has built a MOC that, for the first time in quite a while, made me want to go blog it straightaway. As you can tell if you're reading this, I did.

Strange new worlds need strange new robots

I don't know what was going through Spacie's head when he designed that, but the doctors say that he will continue to live a normal life.

6.12.2009

Fridaaaaaaay!

Some days, I get online, and there's just a lot of great stuff. This is one of those days.

First off, Cole Blaq has churned out another brilliantly creative work. Since his YSAB debut just three months ago (it was not a magnificent reception on my part), he has been creating all sorts of cool stuff. I witnessed further his creativity when he posted this concept ship, a ship crafted from rainbows. Although he and everyone else could tell that the construction was a failure, Cole stuck at it and refined it into the work you see below:

Highlight number two: Hazel is back, and this time, he's designed a concept tank- the M-03 is an evolution of the US M-1 Abrams and most notably sports duel barrels, a split chassis design, and an array of meticulous details.

Also, check out this mecha car by Micah and this Mini-Rex by Geoff.

NBT Avenger

So, apparently, there's this thing called New Blacktron (there is debate about including the 'T' in the acronym).

MONDAY MONDAY MONDAAAAAAAAY!

This dio by Carter was built for the flickr Military group contest, and it is very awesome indeed. All of the overgrown architecture actually gives me a Starcraft vibe.

ALL CAPS = AWESOME

They are especially apt in this situation, as Tyler has made a fantastic PF-BTF-DeLorean (it's funny that I saved so much of your time by using those abbreviations, but am now making you read this stupid sidenote).

Jacob
Occasional driving force of the blog, self-proclaimed Lukas fanboy, and aspiring engineer, Jacob spends too much time building LEGO, not enough time practicing piano, and not nearly enough time doing school. He also enjoys long sentences. In the instance of blogging, he believes in quantity over quality, wherever quantity can be maintained.
Mike
One of the cofounders of YSAB, and the founder of YSA, Observing Mike actually being productive is a rare occasion. Mike enjoys making outlandish claims in relation to actually building, pretending he's actually sorting his collection, and making excuses for why he hasn't photographed his MOCs. In his free time he enjoys learning CSS from Spook, photography and poking badgers with spoons.
Dean
Occasional builder, occasional blogger, and full-time procrastinator. That's really the only way to describe Dean. He rarely gets anything done, but is a very active lurker. He's probably seen and liked your MOC, but just forgot he had a blog.
Erik
Erik is still a teenager.
Lukas
Lukas is tall, blond, mildly OCD, and doesn't build nearly enough as he would like to, thanks to school. He has a webpage.
Spook (Tim)
The resident codemonkey and graphics person. If something isn't working correctly, it's probably his fault. Fitting to his name, he doesn't post often, but someone has to do this stuff too, right? Spook does build with laygoes, and has his own blog as well.
