Day 2

Well Chester put the second coat of varnish on the floors and wow the difference it made. Now tomorrow he will buff it and put the 3rd and final coat on this side and wala they will be finished. (Horay). But then he has to do the other side. (yuk)

I'm getting new furniture and making me some new curtains. The most of my house is hunter green and barn red. I'm ready for a change. So girls, what colors do you think I should put in this room. I'm thinking blue but don't know what the secondary color should be. Any suggestions? Here's the pic of floor. Until next time...

Day 1

Day 1 - hubby started floors. Oh my gosh, dust everywhere, furniture all to one side and the odor would kill a moose. But I keep reminding myself that when it is finished, it will be worth it. But guess who has to clean all that dust.... you got it, ME. Here's pics of day one .

Before After

The mess

Have you ever seen so much dust? It will take weeks to get this put back together again. Reminds me of Humpty Dumpty. Meanwhile, I am having to sleep in his efficiency apt. and I hate it. Nothing to do but stare at four walls. Just can't wait til it's finished. Until next time....

Oh No!

Oh No! Hubby's at it again. Now he is going to refinish my hardwood floors in my living room! And although they really need it, this is one project that I am not looking forward to. He thinks he is going to run me out of my house because of the odors, but I am not leaving my puter!LOL
I have to move everything out tonight so he can start in the morning and because of having to move furniture back and forth, it will probably take one to two weeks to get it finished. I told him "oh no, no, no I won't leave my puter and sewing machine that long. Well he thinks I'll give. We'll see.
I'll post pics tonight of before and then after he's finished. Wish me luck. Until next time.

Garden time

It finally got dry enough to start our garden. So today we planted green onions. And guess what I found when we went to the garden. This poor little thing has laid out in the garden all winter and still survived. And it was suppose to be an egg gourd, but it is a perfect ball. Not sure what to do with it yet but I think it's cute. Has anyone else started a garden yet?

Rummage time!

Wow, I went to my first rummage Friday and got lucky! I found some interesting items that I think will make some great items. Here's pictures of my prize possessions. Has anyone else started rummaging yet? The cans were 25 cents each. Basket 50 cents. Old strainer (that I have wanted for ages) 10 cents! And finally, an old corner shelf that I can't wait to prim up, 75 cents. I just LOVE rummage sales! Until next time...

Cookie Cutters

Oh I am so excited! My friend Nancy has gotten me hooked on making pumpkin ornies. Well I have searched everywhere for Easter cookies and have not been able to find them until this week. And lo and behold, WalMart finally got them in. And you get 18 cookie cutters for under $10.00! That's approximately .05Cents a cookie cutter. So I have been making pumpkin Easter ornies all day. They are so adorable and the right size. So, here's the ornies and I am posting a pic of the bucket they come in for those of you who love to make cookie ornies. Nancy, I hope your WalMart gets them in for you too. These are Wilton cookie cutter. Have a great day. Until next time...

Today's thought

Grandma's Hands

I received this segment through email. And although this is not my Grandma or any of my family's hands, I loved the thought behind this piece. It is fairly long, but please read to the end. I think you will get a blessing from the meaning of this article.
"Grandma, some ninety plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench. She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was OK.
Finally, not really wanting to disturb her but wanting to check on her at the same time, I asked her if she was OK". She raised her head and looked at me and smiled. "Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking," she said in a clear voice strong.
"I didn't mean to disturb you, grandma, but you were just sitting here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were OK," I explained to her.
"Have you ever looked at your hands," she asked. "I mean really." I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as I tried to figure out the point she was making.
Grandma smiled and related this story:
"Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and weak, have been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life.
They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I crashed upon the floor.
They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child, my mother taught me to fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots. They held my husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war.
They have been dirty, scraped and raw; swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band, they showed the world that I was married and loved someone special.
They wrote my letters to him and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse.
They have held my children and grandchildren, consoled neighbors, and shook in fists of anger when I didn't understand. They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day, when not much of anything else of me works real well, these hands hold me up, lay me down, and again continue to fold in prayer.
These hands are the mark of where I've been and the ruggedness of life.
But more importantly, it will be these hands that God will reach out and take when he leads me home. And with my hands, He will lift me to His side and there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ."
Just as the person who this happened to, I will also never look at my hands the same way again. I also agree with her that God reached out and took my grandma's and Mom's hands and led them home.
This lady says that when her hands are hurt or sore or when she strokes the face of her children and husband she thinks of her grandma. She knows she has been stroked and caressed and held by the hands of God. I agree with her that I, too, will now think of my Grandma and Mom when I use my hands. I also want to touch the face of God and feel His hands upon my face.
I may never get to know this lady but I want to thank her sharing her story with others. I hope you get the same blessing that I received when I read this article. God bless each and every one who reads this.
After listening to her Grandma, she took the picture listed above to show the hands of her family. Pretty neat idea!

Brain teaser

I just received this brain teaser in an email and thought this would be fun to post. See if you can figure out what these words have in common. It is actually really simple. Study the words and see if you can do it.

1. Banana
2. Dresser
3. grammar
4. Potato
5. Revive
6. Uneven
7. Assess

Hint: It is not that they all have at least 2 sets of double letters.

Will post answer tomorrow. Have a great day, Valerie. Until next time...

The answere is: If you take the first letter of each word and place it at the end of the word, it spells the same thing backwards.

I'm baackk

Hi everyone, I haven't got to post in a while because of remodeling. My husband pulled out the carpet in my bedroom and hall (YEAH!) and installed laminate flooring. Then he decided to put it in the kitchen and dining room. Oh my gosh, WHAT A MESS! But it is finally over and I LOVE it! So I,m back.
I planned an Easter egg hunt but decided it's too late to start it now, so I will plan something special for Mother's Day. I am welcome for any ideas on what to do. I'm thinking maybe each person post something special about their mom or a special memory of their mom if she is no longer with you. Then I will draw a name out and that person will win the prize. Tell me what you think about this of if you have a better idea.
And one of my faithful viewers reminded me I forgot Feb. recipe of the month. Sorry Nancy. But to make up for it I will be posting two recipes this month. Hope everyone forgives me.
I have also listed more items on my ETSY and will be listing more this week. If you get a chance, stop by and check it out. http://www.yorkiesprimitives.etsy.com/.
Well that's it for tonight. Until next time...
