Pichas!

My phone has a nickname. It's called "The abandoned store for photos"

Why? Because when I checked the folder in my phone it's so full of long forgotten photos which I took with the initial purpose of putting in this blog. No wonder my blog is so lack of pictures nowadays! lol..

Can I add some photos for the recent activities?

1. Popular Bookfair @ Summit

And I found the Story of 3 Kingdom book!!! Hooray! I wanted to buy this set at RM99 in Popular last time but it was too expensive, so I gave up. Guess how much it is now?

RM19 for this whole set!!

Holy S***!! To tell the truth I actually felt ecstasy when I saw the 80% tag behind.

-

2. Hanging out with Zhuang @ Pavilion 27 Nov 09

Our lunch at Little Wok @ Food court

The famous Santa's sleigh

Grand curtain. Very very elegant.

Me and Zhuang =) My childhood playmate.

Nice deco =)

-

3. Sky Trek and visit around Taman Pertanian with Yenny and Toh Theng

Many youngsters cycled there

But we took the bus instead of cycling. Coz we only have little time.

The bus got no window. I like!!

Nice Malay building

If I wear a baju kebaya.. will this photo looks different? =P

Cute colleagues (and ex-colleague, coz Yenny just left us this month)

I told you there's a LOT of people cycling

Watched fish going round and round

Or throw food to them and let them splash the water

Or just put some food on the hand and sacrificed my fingers (they bit really hard on my fingers)

Watch people getting ready for paintball

Testing the gun

I'm still wondering whether this tree is real or not. Coz there's lots of fake durian, papaya and other fruits hanging on the branch. Is it only the fruits which are fake or the whole thing? Hmm...

And before the trip to Taman Pertanian. Yenny recommended us to this famous Bak Kut Teh place at Klang. 直落玻璃瓦褒肉骨茶. The soup is rich of herbal taste. I feel healthy eating this Bak Kut Teh. Not very salty. It's just nice. So it made me feel I can eat few bowls.

My life is actually quite enjoyable. Minus the empty pocket from the fun I get. It's actually fulfilling =)

Copy cat plan

There's a Popular Book Fair at Summit USJ recently. All the books there are 70-80% discount. Some children books are even RM1 each! The books there are not organizely arranged and dusty. But if you're lucky you can find good books by renown authors.

I went there with Get Pei on Wednesday. She found 刘庸 and 村上春树's books.

I wanted to find a book about the history of 康熙, a great emperor in China. But I didn't have that luck. I found 三国演义 though. It's as thick as a dictionary. I had always wanted to buy a detailed 三国演义 book since I had already read the 'light-and-easy' version which is just about an inch thick. But the book I found was Book 2. Book 1 was no where to be seen.

In the end I grabbed these books.

The translated version of "Chew on this: Everything you don't want to know about fast food"
And a Korean learning book.

I feel like going again to try my luck again before it ends.

-

When I was walking back to car park with Get Pei we saw this:

Is this a graffiti competition? It's so cool! And one thing both me and Get Pei agreed on is that Malays are better graffiti artists than Chinese. =)

-

2 days ago I suddenly had this idea of mimicking photographed photos by drawing with hand using oil pastels (crayons).

Some people had already done that. These are some examples I found on the net:

Uhmm.. I thought I was the one who could only think of mimicking photographs.

Erhem... Anyways, I'm gonna start from simple one first coz lately very busy with work. Don't really have time but I still crave for some leisure. =P

I'm gonna start with this:

Simple and nice. Hope I won't ruin the drawing la.. hahaha..

Will post up my drawing once I'm done.

여러분,기다리세요!! =)
(Means: Everyone, please wait!!)

Happy 2009!

It's already 2009! I haven't even get myself used to writing 08 on the date. Life is like that. When you haven't got hold of that something, that something has already left you. So appreciate everything in your life right now, right here.

I didnt go count down for new year. I'm actually quite pleased that I didn't go anywhere crowded and sticky. Coz last night I spent the time with my little cousin sister in her air-cond room discussing about Korean language we learned ourselves. lol....on her cozy bed. Then, I fell alseep before the clock struck twelve! lol. Luckily Zhuang came back from mamak and woke me up at 11.40pm so that we could count down together in the cozy room. And she brought back roti canai! Yum! I stepped into 2009 with roti canai and dal sauce on my fingers. lol.

Then the environment got crazier when we decided to record the Negaraku translated into Chinese version by me. =P The first few attempts were failures coz me and Mei couldn't help laughing in the middle. Luckily in the end we recorded a pretty decent Chinese version Negaraku. And then we sang the "hahaha" song we saw from TVXQ, too. See below for the hahaha song from TVXQ. lol. It's pretty funny.

Today I bought another 2 books from MPH in Midvalley. Keke. Neldon Mandela's Journey to the Freedom and Paulo Coelho's Alchemist. Both books were in my buying list for very long already. MPH is having a 3 for 2 promotion. Another book is for Audrey, the Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella. Haha. I've got so many books to read. Wait till I finish watching the Iljimae then I will start reading them.

Oh! I can't wait to go home watch Iljimae already. After eating birthday cake with Zhuang then I will rush back and watch till I cannot stand the sleepiness. =P Oh, by the way, I'm blogging from Zhuang's home.

My Best Friend's Girl

I'm so hooked to this book. My Best Friend's Girl by Dorothy Koomson.

It's about how a 32 years old lady taking up the responsibility to adopt her best friend's 5 years old daughter after her best friend's death. The author describes the narrator's grief very well. And it always bring me to tears when Tegan, the little girl makes her learns to open her heart bit by bit.

It's a very touching chick-lit. It tells a lot about a mum's worries on her children, so much till I feel the stress from the heavy responsibility of this superwoman who has to work and take care of Tegan.

Another thing that touched me is the zero race boundaries between the narrator, who is black, and the little girl who is white and the man who loved both the narrator and the little girl very much who is a white too. It makes me fantasizing about the world full of love without racial discrimination and trusts among different races.

This book made my days! =)

Of Frankenstein and Van Gough

Actually when I was typing in previous post that I am trying hard to live my life. I mean I am trying really hard but didn't mean I manage to live my life. I feel lost, empty, depressed (again), useless and alone (nobody to depend on). And I dun feel like doing anything.

I started walking alone in Pyramid again before meeting up Yun Ying. First time after the break up. And the familiar lonely feelings came back to me when I saw loving couples pass by. But this time, I have no one with me. Which makes me feel even more lonely. And the pain was then gradually building up again. I think it did not start when I walked alone in Pyramid last night. I had this empty feeling few days ago especially when I'm driving coz you cant do other stuff to keep yourself occupied when you're driving. And the only thing you can do when you are driving is to think which either brighten up your mood or dampen your mood. My mindset automatically chose the second. How pessimistic. (I'm not always cheerful as some of you might think)

I suddenly found something fresh to occupy my soul when I saw the painting stall in Pyramid new wing last night. It was the Starry Starry Night by Vincent Van Gough, my favourite painting. If you read my blog very long time ago you will know, else, just see here for more detail.

It was staring at me from the ground floor when I was at the second floor going to Popular Bookstore. I got attracted to it. Headed to ground floor instead of the bookstore. RM300 per piece. Even though it's just a fake, but it's still too expensive for me. So this idea came to me. How about draw a painting for my room deco so that my room will be brightened up a bit? Cool idea right? Hehe. But I still thinking wanna draw Starry Starry Night or not. Coz if you know the story of Van Gough, you will know how lonely this painting represents. I duwan it to amplify my loneliness.

And then I walked back to Popular again. Came out with a box of Buncho crayon and a piece of thick drawing paper. Mum, if you're reading this dun nag me for buying the crayon when I can take free good quality crayon from home. Coz I cannot tahan already ma.. Wanna fast fast draw liao ma. Hehe. Cannot wait until bro passes it to me. Dun worry, it's a medium size box, not the big one. Wont be as expensive.

So this is my personal mini project. A painting for room deco. =)

---------------------

Forgot to write the review on this book I just finish reading.

Next. By Michael Crichton.

This cover is the one I have. Got it in MPH warehouse sales at lower price. RM20+ if not mistaken.

But I think this cover looks more appealing. Hmm..

I love this book!

He argues about the ethical problem that will arise from genetic engineering in a very Frankenstein manner. He tells it in short interlinked stories which is surprisingly pretty persuasive to me. I hate novels which are draggy (like Lord of the Ring). This novel has a fast pace, fast enough to keep me awake to read it. =P And it is addictive enough to keep me reading it when I was waiting for traffic lights while driving. Hehe. Ok ok. No more reading when driving now since I've already finish reading it.

He even put 7 pages of references (mostly journals) at the last few pages of the book. And he also put 8 pages of his own opinions on the gene patenting, use of human tissues, gene testing, bans on some genetic researches in some countries and the Bayh-Dole act. Very scientific feel. Makes me feel so sciencesick (derived from homesick. hehe)

-----------------

Oh. Talking about science fictions. I bought several old 1980s science fictions from the bookfair in 3K Subang Jaya long time ago before I graduated. And the first few pages already brought me plenty of cold sweat. The story is about the world in 2030. And this sentence talking about how hightech the typewriter will be in 2030... When I saw this sentence I suddenly lost my "apetite" to continue reading the book. I's like, hello? We dun use typewriter anymore now. We use PDAs if you want hightech for heaven's sake. lol. I'm bad.

And after that I swore to myself I will never ever buy old outdated science fictions again. Ever.

------------------

And talking about typewriter. Ah~~ Sweet memories. I miss the 'keching' sound when it got to the next line. Hehe. And I miss how I hate stucking my fingers into the holes in between the buttons. It peeled my skin. And the tapping sounds of the sticks (dunno how to call it). And how I always liked to touch the ink strips when I was wondering where the printed words came from. I was 9... I was just playing around with the typewriter =)

p/s: For those of you who are too young to know how a typewriter looks like. =P It looks like this:

A continuation on Jack Canfield's "How-to" book

This post is to continue from the previous post I had written last month, also extracting the important points from "How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be" by Jack Canfield. I think he'd written a very motivational book. Hope this helps. =)

So after you have picture your dream in your mind when you close your eyes and now that you have positive thinking already, you cannot just continue dreaming and don't do anything about it. So this is the continuation of the previous post on taking actions, overcome fear and ask for what you want. =)

1. Take action, NOW!

Nothing happens until you take action. Take action now! Quit waiting.

Quit waiting for the perfect timing, someone's permission, the absence of risks, more self-confidence and etc. There is no such thing as perfect situation. So, do it now! Take a leap. Take action and take it now. Do you want to be safe and good, or do you want to take a chance and be great? If you want to be safe, you won't take the risk, and how are you going to achieve what you want when you don't even take action to reach for your dream?

2. Don't let fear fail you

Most people let fear stop them from taking the necessary steps to achieve their dreams. If you avoid the uncomfortable feeling of fear, you will never get what you want in your life. Every time you face a fear and do it anyway, you build up that much more confidence in your abilities.

3. Ask. You won't lose anything

Ask for what you want. Jack said "You never have anything to lose by asking, and because there is something to possibly gain, by all mean ask." There are few tactics in asking for what you want.

(i) Ask as if you expect to get it. Assume you can get it. Don't ever assume against yourself.
(ii) Ask specifically and clearly. The specific amount of money you want to save, the date and time you want to spend time with your parents, the specific action you expect from you love ones.
(iii) Don't give up when you get a 'no' from what you ask. Keep on asking - even the same person you are asking - you might get a yes after several times because people will reconsider your request. This might be a rare case I think. But if you failed getting what you want from this person, ask another person then. There are over 5 billion people in the world. Someone, somewhere, sometime will say yes. So, when you get a 'no' here, say 'next'. According to Jack, those who succeed reject rejections. Losers gave up after few attempts.

I found some good examples that in this book about how successful people reject rejection and keep on asking without giving up:

(1) Abraham Graham Bell who offered the rights to the telephone for $100,000 to Carl Orton, the president of Western Union who said "What use would this company make of an electrical toy?"

(2) Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page approached Yahoo! and suggested for a merge. At that time Google was still not well-known. Yahoo! suggested that the young Googlers keep working on their little school project and come back when they had grown up. So, they were rejected. But now Google is so well-known that everyone is using it.

(3) John Creasy, a popular British mystery writer, was rejected 743 times before he sold his first book!

If you keep asking, no matter how many times you get rejected, you will eventually success.

That's all I've read up to. Still left a quarter of the book. Hehe. Stay tune. =P

P/s: I think I need to improve more on these. Somehow I still assume that I will get rejected by any scholarship programmes I apply in the future and hence I don't even take the initiative to apply for them. Have to re-programme my negative thinking already. =)

The long known secret?

Yesterday went to swimming class again. Was surprised that my ex-partner is back! So since instructors were all busy with other students, we practiced ourselves. We competed freestyle 25m too! Three times some more! I was shocked by my own achievement, coz I've never swim that fast before. Hehe. Happy happy!

But my instructor told me although I swim fast but my freestyle is still not 100% correct. =( She say actually for life saving any style also you can perform as long as you can beat the time but since you want to teach swimming after you get the cert you have to make sure your styles are correct. Stressed man.

Din do 100m yesterday coz was very tired already. But 300 m and underwater swim was okay for me already. No problem with them.

Have I told you here that I bought 3 books from the MPH stock clearance sales? Next by Michael Crichton (RM24.00), 101 Great Answers to the Toughest Interview Questions by Ron Fry (RM18.00) and the very very famous The Secret (hardcover) by Rhonda Byrne (RM56). So I spend a total of RM93 in books. Hmm. I better go get back the receipt from the dustbin so that I can claim income tax next year. =P

(click the book for more info)

I saw this Secret book on the shelf and I know it's about Law of Attraction. I read online that it's really motivational. And I really want it because the whole book is finely packaged. lol. But I saw the price in Popular bookstore before this and it was not cheap (if not mistaken more than RM70). So when I realized it's RM56 in the sales I couldn't control myself from grabbing it from the shelf and then couldn't let go of the book. I made a sin. lol.

Eh? While writing this entry, I went to Shelfari which I had long abandoned. =P And check on the book review on the Secret. A lot readers are not very satisfied with the book wor. They say it's very much like a normal motivational book. They say it's not actually a secret also coz a lot of motivational books had already mentioned it. Some even say it's worse than a normal motivational book and it's so famous because of marketing gimmicks.

Die liao. I think I really made a great sin by buying it with such price. Argh. Nevermind. I can use the receipt to deduct my next year income tax. Maybe it might motivate me in some ways that "How-to" book can't le. But I really like my "How-To" book now. I'm worried that the How-To book is better written than the Secret.

Argh. Dunno la dunno la. Just read la.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Hmm. Since I talked about books already. Might as well talk about movie as well.

Recently, I watched this movie called The escape from Huang Shi (a.k.a The children of Huang Shi) cast by Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Radha Mitchell, Yun-Fat Chow and Michelle Yeoh. This movie is inspired by true events with the historical background of Japanese occupation of China in 1937 (南京大屠杀).

Although there are two Chinese actor/ actress in the movie, but the story is mainly about how good a contribution of a white man to the kids from Huang Shi. This movie touched me. And the effort the guy took to really raise the spirits of the kids in their haunting experiences of losing their own parents. If there really was such man, I really salute him for that because raising one's spirit from such haunted experience is already very hard, what'smore he raise 60 spirits, summore during a war.

The best thing about this movie is that, like the 911 movie (if I'm not wrong with the name), there's some "proofs" from the kids, who are already in their 80-90s now, appreciating what the guy taught them in life.

This is a must watch movie. =)

Good news for WY =P

Working in lab is fun.

Electrophoresis tank~~~Micropipettes~~~95% ethanol~~~Schott bottles

Power pack~~Samples & DNA ladder in fridge~~Pipette tips holder (left only 1 tip)

**These photos are dedicated to mum and Heng. Let them see the tiny little things in my lab =)**

I like lab work. =) But I hate gloves. Gloves make my hand dry and smells like rubber. =( The gloves contain some powder inside which sucks alway the moisture on my hand especially fingers. And smelly hands, because the gloves have strong rubber smell and the smell got transferred to my hand. I tried to wash it with loads of soap and apply scented moisturizer. But, it doesn't work. My hand is still smelly.

Maybe my moisturizer scent is not strong enough.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

Sometimes I dun feel like blogging but whenever I think of the feedback from few readers, I move on =)

It feels great when I can lighten up some people's life with my lame jokes =P

So, here are some gratitude for 2 of my readers who requested me to do some analysis on their face symmetry like what I did to my own face in previous post =P

Heng dear's

Got difference? I think i prefer the right side (top one).. Cuz I think the right eye looks more clever.. hehe =P

Woan Yng

The left eye is smaller when smiling

If you see properly, Heng uses more right cheek muscle to smile and WY uses more left cheek muscle (can see from the chubbiness of the face)

Am currently reading Mitch Album’s Tuesday with Morrie. This book is soooo scary it reminds me of death. DEATH! This is the last thing I want to imagine. Although I’m a Taoist, I dun believe much in anything after death.

I dun believe that there’s an after life. I believe that death is a state of nothing. When a person dies, gone with the senses and feelings. You won’t have any feeling of touch, hot or cold; you cant see, hear, smell, nor taste; and you cant walk around like you usually do when you are alive!

But, I wish there’s incarnation and somehow I believe it deep in my senses. But if there is incarnation, I still dun think we will have any feelings (and whatever we are having when we are alive) after the death. My opinion of incarnation is that the dead soul will get formatted (like those in computers) as soon as the person dies, explaining my view of no feeling after death. And after that the soul will be re-used but with cleared memory and new appearance. So, the previous computer memory is lost forever and so does the senses.

Lol. Sounds interesting yea? Haha.. But sounds really sad. Which means we really got nothing after death? I know every religion has its own after death beliefs. But even if let me join any of the religion I also won’t believe that there’s after life one. I’m one stubborn cow cow =P

The monk who sold his Ferrari

Am going to finish reading this book soon. I bought this book because the readers reviews in shelfari.com suggested this as a good and inspirational book in achieving goals in your life.

However, I find this book more like telling people to have a balanced life from the rush hours most people have. There are 3 emphasis on Robin's book:

1. Balancing your spiritual and material lives.
This book reminds people, especially those busy ones, to sit back and look at yourself and look around for your loved ones. He questioned:

-Are you treating yourself good enough while you are chasing for your dream?

-Do you have enough sleep? Enough nutrients for your body? And enough time to let your mind rest and enjoy the short break?

-Have you talked to your loved ones recently? Or you haven't even looked into their eyes because you are too busy with your work?

-What do you do after work? Do you have 30 minutes for yourself, just for yourself, reading your own mind, asking yourself what you want in life? Or do you just sit there and stare lifelessly at the TV or PC?

If you can't answer all these. You need to sit back and think what is wrong with your life now. Because life is not all about that one thing-- your work. Don't forget your family, your loved ones and you yourself!

Health and happiness is the key to your life. Without it, money is nothing.

Sleep well, eat well, rest well. Then only can you work 100% effective. Just take ten-minutes three times a day, one before you sleep, one after you wake up and one during work, close your eyes and rest your mind.

Listen to your body. Your body won't want a restless life.

Balance up your life now. =)

2. Make full use of your time
Do you have a target in your life?

As simple as just being happy? Or being closer to your family? Or excel in a certain field e.g. public speaking? Or being success in business?

But, do you find yourself doing unimportant thing most of your time rather than doing what you should do to bring yourself towards the target?

Do you find yourself wasting your precious time sitting there allowing the time to slip away when you can actually spend the time reading a good book or practice on your speaking skills or spend more time with your family?

I'm amused by a great sentence Robin had just said--"Stop acting like you have 500 years to live". Haha.. This is so true. I think this is the most eye-catching sentence I read in this book. And this same sentence enlightens me and reminds me that I shouldn't simply live my life now. I started to think I should put more effort into my life. =P

3. Contribute to the society
Robin also emphasized on contributing to the society and being selfless in the book. He stated that the ultimate purpose of everyone's life is to serve and contribute. Contribution can be as tiny as letting a few cars to pass in front of you during a traffic jam or as major as volunteering for the needy every weekend.

You will feel good after contributing, thus giving more energy to your life. =) I believe when you find yourself able to contribute to the society you will feel contented with your life because your life become far richer and more meaningful.

First Salary (first from a full time job)

Yeay. Got my salary already!

The first thing that come to my mind is that I'm gonna pay back my mum for the new cell phone she bought me as promised.

Then, I thought about how much I'm gonna save from the pay. Then, I'm planning on what I wanna buy with my salary apart from the cell phone.

The first thought that came to me was buying the books I've been longing:

(1) The five people you meet in heaven - by Mitch Albom
(2) For one more day - by Mitch Albom
(3) The monk who sold his Ferrari - by Robin Sharma

I think one month buy one book should be enough. Otherwise I'll bankrupt. Some more I'm still reading 'Middlesex'. Not even half way through the book yet. LoL.

Apart from books, hmm... I wanna buy loads of bubble tea and KitKat. Muahaha..

Apart from these, I'm contented with what I have now.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Quote of the day

--there was a language in the world that everyone understood...It was the language of enthusiasm, of things accomplished with love and purpose, and as part of a search for something believed in and desired--

Taken from The Alchemist

Today was reading a book called "Speaking with a Purpose" on the bus on my way back home from KL. I borrowed this book in MUST library. It was on the new arrivals shelf on display few days ago. It caught my eyes.

Arthur Koch, the author taught people how to public speaking with confidence. There's one thing he asked readers to try. List out 5 things to do in order to stretch your comfort zone. He meant comfort zone for public speaking. But he stressed that stretching comfort zone can be applied to other situations in life.

I stared at this sentence for like 5 minutes, thinking. If I'm to answer this question. What are the 5 things I would do to stretch my comfort zone? Koch gave some examples in the book:

If you are more comfortable waiting for someone else to speak first, push yourslef to speak first as often as possible; Ask more questions in store; Try dressing differently; Seek leadership roles; Go horseback riding; Drive somewhere you have never been

Then this thought came to me. 1 I've never been driving in the traffic in KL before. I guess driving everyday to work and back is one of the accomplishment to stretch my comfort zone. 2 Then working from 9-5 every 5 days in a week might be one accomplishment since I had never worked so long before. Very tiring le... Hehe. 3 Then earning my own money and don't take money from parents anymore (I always dream to be financially independent. I owe my parents too much. Duwan to burden them anymore). 4 Then learning molecular biology work in lab is another one (coz I never did that before and hav no idea how to do it. I'm gonna learn soonPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket).
5 I guess the last one would be flying to UK when I get the chance to take annual leave. Muahaha.

Recently I am reading 红楼梦with pictures. This is how the cover of the book looks like.

The one in red is贾宝玉and the lady in pale yellow sitting beside him is 林黛玉

There are pictures in the book and one or two sentences at the bottom. Very simplified form of 红楼梦.Browsing through the pictures does not give a clue on the story because it's not a comic. The picture is just for decoration actually. lol. No wonder last time when I was young I dun understand the story at all. =P

After reading this, I plan to read 三国演义白话文版.I had tried reading this book before but fell asleep twice at a chapter (dun remember what the chapter was about already, about 张飞one). This time I'm gonna force myself to finish the whole book. I'm so ashamed of myself, being a chinese dunno about stories in 三国演义. Then, after this, I wanna look for 孙子兵法to read. If I got the gut, maybe read China history. Haha. I think after finish reading I'll be half insane.

This one looks more boring right? =P Dun care... I wanna force myself finish reading this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made another food recently. Read a blog entry the other day. The author cooked cauliflower in boiling water and then blend it into mashed cauliflower and she suggested that this can substitute mashed potato. So, I tried making this. Exactly the same ingredient except that i substitute potato with cauliflower.
The mashed cauliflower looked like this. The taste was exactly the same, of course. Just that the texture was a bit cauliflower, unlike potato sticky sticky one.
Yummy!!
