Last Wednesday, 12 July 2006, we brought our girls to KKH children clinic for review and YEAH! Finally they can be discharged! After 27 mos and 6 days...Recalling back my twins pregnancy... somewhere at my 20 weeks, my then gynae, broke the most terrible news to me! My twins pregnancy had developed TTTS which what she had been worried and it really happened! I was too shock to react but she was very nice to have referred me to a friend of hers who was a professor in this predicament and was working in the government structured hospital. Not that she was incompetance to handle TTTS pregnancy but she was very thoughtful to have considered the finiancial crisis we would faced, if we had continued her consultation. Instead, she advised us to opt gov hosp so that we will be subsidized. As anticipated, my delivery cost sum up to aprox S$18K but after subsidy from government and deduction from CPF, we only come out cash aprox S$2k! However, that amount had not included many investigations, tests and ultrascan I need to undergo twice every week piror to the delivery. Just imagine the bomb I would received if we had stayed in a private hospital! Double the bills, most probably!Though we did not stay with the prof, my then gynae had referred us to but went on to seek 2nd opinion at KKH, not because we doubt that prof competancy but we were very desprated then as the prof was not very optimistic about the birth of my prenancy. I cried whenever the thought of having to terminate the "receiving" foetus and deliver the "donor" foetus at 20 weeks and the chances of her surviving was very slim due to premature complication. Luckily we did seek an 2nd opinion at KKH and was really blessed to have met Dr Tony Tan, the head of mutiple pregnancy dept. He was not optimistic too but the way he delivered his predicament was much more acceptable and KKH itself is an women and children hospital, all the professional under a roof should be better, we thought...
I almost became a privilage member in KKH as I think no other pregnant woman had appt as frequent as me. Thoughtout the pregnancy, beside having appt twice weekly at the clinic, I admitted to emergency twice too. Once, hubby sent me in as I was feeling giddy and nausea. Another was around 30 weeks, when we were strolling at bedok jetty after I had two bowl of ice-kachang, halfway my adominal was so painful suddenly till I cant walk back to the car but have to call for the ambulance. The latter was really dramatic, never thought in my life I will experience this.
I am really grateful to Dr Tan. His confident and competent really reassure me to hang on and delivered my babies at a healthier 36 weeks. Imagine all the anxiety and stress I had gone throught during that 16 weeks. Of course not forgetting staffs in his clinic and those nurses in my ward and... Dr Selina Chua, my then gaynae... she still can recognised us when once we bump into at Mt E... and the paediatrian, Dr Melissa who take care of my girls development since birth... and those staffs in the SCU.
My most sincere appreciation to all... Thank You Very Much.
