Of power failure and polish

Did you miss me? Or more like, did you miss my long, rambling pointless posts? :P

Anyway, this morning I woke up at about 6-plus in the morning to use the bathroom. It was still dark outside...and as I reached out for my alarm clock on the bedside table (yeah, I like to check the time when I wake up sometime during the night), everything went pitch-black.

Okay, maybe not pitch-black...but darker. I had a little shock...I mean, imagine waking up, still feeling groggy from sleep, seeing things around you, and suddenly...bam! You lose your sight. Pretty scary, if you ask me.

So...maybe you've guessed, it was a power failure. The lights outside had flicked off, which was why it was suddenly darker. A moment later the generator kicked in and the lights turned on again. (and a few minutes later we had our power back...my fan started spinning again :P )

And another (totally unrelated) thing... I washed my car today...and halfway through another guy came to wash his. He had a whole lot of "equipment"...for one, a really long hose, that was wound up on a wheel thing (you know, so that you can just pull out the length you need and you won't have the extra length of the hose in coils all over the place), and also a basket just slightly smaller than those you find in supermarkets...filled (practically full!) with spray bottles. (and maybe some other stuff that I didn't notice)

After I was done, I went over to his end of the hose to wash my hands...and he asked me whether a whitish patch on my car was due to water dripping in the car park (that happens in my car park, unfortunately :( ) He said that it could come off with polish...and he said I could use his.

Nice, right? But, uh....I ran away! lol

Okay, not exactly...I just said no thanks and left. Why? Because, one, I'm too lazy to do any polishing (anything other than wiping the dust and dirt off my car, actually :P ). And two...because I have no idea how to polish a car. :P

So, thank you for your kindness, mister...but I think I'll let the whitish patch take care of itself in the long run...

Mind games

You know those brain puzzles where they give you three jugs of different sizes (different volumes) with a certain amount of water, and tell you to transfer the water so that in the end you will have a certain amount in each jug?

I got one of those today. Three jugs of 19, 13 and 7 litres respectively, with the 13- and 7-litre ones filled to the brim. (okay, maybe it wasn't litres, I can't remember the units :P ) And we're supposed to have 2 jugs holding 10 litres each in the end.

For some reason (maybe it was boredom :P ), I felt rather motivated to solve this puzzle. I think I had never solved one before, because it was usually too complicated and I would end up giving up halfway through and looking at the response.

I decided to use a more "systematic" approach this time...using pen and paper.

Yeah, it paid off in the end. It's still complicated...I guess we need 19 steps to solve the puzzle; I don't see how I can cut that short.

And I just thought I shouldn't let my handiwork go to waste, so I'm posting it here. :P

Keyhole cake

It's been some time since I've posted a photo, huh?

Some time back, I bought a chiffon cake from Giant. After cutting out the first slice, I noticed something...it has become a keyhole cake!

Looks like a keyhole, doesn't it? :P

Predator or prey?

A game of cat and mouse...

But was I the cat, or the mouse?

Probably the mouse...because I was feeling so terrified...

In the end, the cat did not pounce.

Relief......

...or maybe not.

Because sometimes, I guess you want to be attacked.

Anthem of the day

Oh no, not again, the shudders, the shaking
Oh no, not again, the faint and the faking
Oh no, oh no love, it's not what you're thinking
I've just had enough...

Bits and pieces

Unrelated ones.

Yeah, well, I've got a lot on my mind. Maybe my brain's gonna explode soon.

My hands are tied...I can't say a word. Or maybe it's my tongue that's tied.

Thank you SO much, guys, for the talk. It means a lot...you're the greatest.

There are many facets to a person, many layers to their actions.
In a split second you think you know, but in a few more your doubt might grow.
Let it rest, let it rest, for you might be wrong, or half-right at best.

Oh, and I'm terrified of change. Didn't you know?

In between books

I haven't been updating my blog for a while, huh...guess I've been rather busy. And it's not like I had anything to write about, either. I've just finished reading The Confession by John Grisham, not bad, but not exceptional either. It speaks against the death penalty, and that reminds me a little of Victor Hugo's Le dernier jour d'un condamné (The last day of a condemned man).

And I've finally got myself a hard copy of the last Harry Potter book (I read it the first time as an e-book), so I can finally read it again (I don't like e-books that much, so I only read it once to know the story). I guess I'll be starting that soon.

Got a lot on my mind...stuff floating around but that I can't really write about...so I'll just sign off now, and hopefully find something else to write about soon! (and the time to do it, too... :P )
