Sweet 'n Sassy Farewell Blog Hop

Today SNS says farewell to several members of its current team--Cindy, Faith, Lorie, Sarah and me. {{hugs}} girlfriends! I've been so honored to serve with you! I'm excited to congratulate several team members who will move on to Sr Designer positions, and to welcome the stampers who are just joining the team!

As I think back over the last six months, I am overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude! I cannot believe how quickly time has passed and how dramatically life has changed in such a short period of time! It seems like it was only yesterday that I was squealing with delight because Korin had invited me to be a member of her Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps design team! I was SO thrilled! Now it's already time to say goodbye! How fun it has been, and how much I've learned! What a fantastic experience! It has been such a privilege to be part of this amazing group...it is much more like family than a design team, and it is very bittersweet to move on! Ecclesiastes says...to everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under Heaven. I pray that I can gracefully transition! I am such a sentimental, sensitive person that it isn't something I enjoy doing! I think my experiences as a Navy wife have made me that much more reluctant because I know firsthand how hard it is to maintain friendships after moving. Even with all of our good intentions, the hectic reality of life makes it very difficult.

Hehehe...isn't it appropriate then that my card for today is a little caterpillar inching his way along! I stamped him using Memento Rich Cocoa, then colored him with prismas and Gamsol. My card is constructed using Basic Grey 6 x 6 papers from the Boxer collection and this week's Sweet Stop sketch. All of the papers were distressed with Tim Holtz distress ink. I framed the sentiment with a couple of button-trimmed flowers and several sprigs of greenery punched with a MS fern punch...reminds me of the frilly parsley that the caterpillars devoured COMPLETELY several years ago! They didn't leave us even one tiny sprig!

Thank you Korin, and all of the rest of the Sweet 'n Sassy team, for welcoming me with open arms, for sharing your expertise and your love of stamping, and for your faithful witness of Christ. I have been so blessed by you! I sincerely hope that the bonds we've made during this time together will hold firm as we enter these new seasons of our lives. Blessings to you and yours, my friends!

Bling it On, Baby!

Our i {heart} papers design team was challenged to create a card with bling! Can there be TOO much bling?! This card is definitely blinging every which way, so the answer certainly could be yes!

The inspiration for this card came from two sources...this sparkly SEI Lovebirds designer paper and a Hero Arts stamp set that comes with its own bling right in the package! I stamped the image using Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored it in with Copic markers in several shades of pink. I colored in a faint background using prismas and Gamsol. The butterfly and sentiment were stamped in Regal Rose. Then I used a matching marker to make a little twisting trail. All of the leaves and the butterfly's wings were colored with a clear Copic spica glitter pen to give them some sparkle to match the rest of the card. I used some circle nestabilities along with Labels 3 to cut and emboss the image. The pink rhinestones are from the stamp set (and there are still several colors of rhinestones left for more projects)! I used a lacy edge punch to dress up a strip of regal rose...even the pink and aqua ribbon trim is glitsy!

DRS Challenge--Dazzling Diamond Dust

I'm sure you're not surprised to see another coffee card! I actually had this one coffee cup left over from my other DRS coffee projects, and it goes perfectly with this paper, so I decided to dazzle it up with some Versamark and a mixture of clear EP, iridescent EP and glitter. The designer paper has flowers that are glossy, almost like enamel, and I thought this combination of textures would be really pretty together. I may try again in brighter light to see if I can capture it better on camera.

Banana Split Sunday!

Today's Banana Split Challenge is to create a card from this summery beach image. I was stuck on patriotic when I first started to look at it, but then after coming across one of my favorite chickens, it began to come together.

I stamped Hawaiian Chicken with Memento Tuxedo Black, then colored him with prismas and Gamsol, using a Copic microliner to add in the stripes to his surf board so that it mimicked the slats of the chairs in the photo. I used small and large classic circle nestabilities to cut and emboss the image and mat. The Pacific Point card base was sponged with craft white ink using a scalloped circle as a mask. The Sahara *Sand* was stamped with versamark using a very old (probably one of my first stamps ever) sand dunes stamp.


To bring in some of the turquoise, I added a strip of *waves* with a striped ribbon accent to cover the seam. The sentiment was stamped in Real Red, and embellished with a small red flower-shaped button.

Makes me think of our days on the beach at Barber's Point, or Makaha! I loved living there! My friend Mary *just* moved back to Hawaii. They probably aren't even settled in yet. I miss her already! Can't wait to visit! Aloha a hui hou!

Coloring with Copics

I went to Asela's Copic marker class at A Small Cleverness on Thursday. It was SO much fun and I learned so much! She gave us several Penny Black images stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black to color, and showed us how to blend and shade using different techniques. I learned that I need to work more quickly and with a lighter touch to get the effect that I want. Also, I need to just STOP! I have a tendency to use too little contrast and to over-blend, so I am learning to add more color, blend a tiny bit and then quickly step away!

In class, the flower in this stamped image was colored a beautiful pale pink that I don't have...I ended up going monochromatic, since I had this paper (Piggy Tales' Sun and Up and Down) in mind. I used my blender pen with the same pale yellow and green to barely tint the flower petals. The center was colored and then given a layer of glitz with a gold Spica glitter pen. I colored over the petals with a clear Spica, so they have that pretty *sugary* look that petals often have in nature. Wish I could capture that in a photo! I cut and embossed the image and mat with small and large classic rectangle nestabilities.

My paper flower didn't really match, so I soaked it with blender solution and colored the edges with my Copic marker. That brightened it up a lot and really helped it stand out a bit more.

Every single time I make a card with frogs it makes me think of my friend, Shannon! :) Can't wait 'til CHA!

Today's card is a combo card for SCS's Limited Supplies Challenge, "Chinese Take-out," and The Sweet Stop's sketch with a spin (red, white and blue) for this week. I was thrilled that they worked together! I used a Sweet 'n Sassy digital stamp, Celebrate America, resizing and flipping the image to fit the sketch (there's still one more day for you to play! There will be a new sketch tomorrow!) The rocket was colored with prismas and Gamsol, then shaded along one edge with a Copic blender pen and cool gray marker. I used a microliner to frame the image with a fine line and a few dot-dot-dots. The rest of my supplies are things that have been in my stash for ages...I think both prints came from a big stack of designer papers that my mom sent me forever ago, probably from Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I printed the sentiment, God Bless America, on some white cardstock, then matted it with red for the inside. Relatively clean and simple.

Color Dare #22

Today's Color Dare colors are Pink Passion, Kiwi Kiss, and Apricot Appeal. I knew this little soft-ball playing flamingo from 2RedBananas would be perfect for these colors, but the concept was much cuter in my head than the execution is IRL! I think if the sentiment were a bit lower, I'd be happier with the balance of this card. I actually had a big pink bow underneath the sentiment in the beginning, and that just didn't work. I'm to the point where I've been looking at it too long, struggling with it too much, and it's time now to go to bed! ;)

2RB + House Mouse!

Today 2RedBananas is sponsoring the House Mouse Challenge, which is a fun sketch! I really LOVE sketch challenges! And what about this adorable bear!? This is the kind of summer we're all hoping to have! ;) Peeking at the calendar, it doesn't look like it is gonna be quite like that around here! It's all fun, it's all good, but it will definitely be all busy!

I had such a great time with this card! I colored it with my Copics...in fact, I colored and UNcolored those hammock strings quite a few times before I finally got them the way I wanted! LOVE that about Copics!

The card base is SU's More Mustard, inked heavily with Tim Holtz distress ink in Tea Dye and Vintage Photo. The bottom mat layer was passed through the Cuttlebug with a swirlie embossing folder, then inked up with distress ink to accent the texture. The next layer is a big bright circle of Summer *Sun*. I matted the bear image on a piece of Coredinations card stock...the bottom of both were torn, rolled and bent to break down the fibers and give them a time-worn, relaxed look, then also distress-inked. I love how the Coredinations allows that little peek of another color.

My image was a bit large to include the sketch's triplet accents across the top and bottom, so I added them alongside instead. I thought the cord mimicked the hammock strings so I tied it through a button and ran it diagonally across the corners, then added the smaller buttons above and below.

Banana Split Sunday!

Happy Father's Day! I know that you're probably celebrating with the man of the house, so I hope you're having a special day! My husband works hard to support our household, including my stamping habit, and I am very grateful for all he does!

Today is Banana Split Sunday and our challenge is to be inspired by Summer! June 21st is the longest day of the year, the official start of Summer, and my mother's birthday! Happy Birthday, Mom! I love you!

Of all of the new 2RB releases, no other stamp screams summer like this one! These journaling spots are fun for scrapbooking, but I thought it would be cool to use one for a card. During the school year we see our homeschooling friends on a fairly regular basis, but during summer we lose track of each other, so this is a fun way to set up a get-together for some ice cream and catch-up conversation, especially with a coupon tucked inside! No matter how young or old you are, you probably like that idea!

I used Memento ink and Copic markers to stamp and color my image. The designer papers are prints from a DCWV glitter pack...they really do match, but I think I ended up cutting off or covering up most of the orange by the time all was said and done!

Dirty Dozen/Dirty Dozen Alumni Challenge

Each month the current Dirty Dozen and all of the Dirty Dozen Alumni are invited to take part in a challenge...it is a reunion of sorts, and I am very excited to be taking part in my first one today as a brand new dirty girl! Our challenge was to make a card inspired by the fact that school's out for summer! There were two specifications: we were required to use brads, and could NOT use buttons.

Every once in a while it is kinda fun to take a challenge more literally, and that is what I decided to do with this one. Not long ago I participated in a Florida group ATC swap, and had these fun Cosmo Cricket scraps left over, so I decided to use a little school of fish and some of my OCL stamps for my interpretation. I hope you like it! I'll have to hide this from Matthew (my 15 yo). We are homeschoolers, and he is still working through the last little bit of his Math-U-See book, so for us, school isn't really totally out yet. Besides, he would hate the corny word play...actually, I believe he secretly thinks it is funny but would never admit it.

I colored layers and layers of prisma colors onto these images from OCL's set, Oceans of Fun (on sale now at i {heart} papers!), then cut them out and popped them up onto dimensionals. All of the papers are inked with Tim Holtz distress inks, and their edges distressed and worn.

This was such a fun card to make, made even moreso by the great girl-time I had while I was coloring...I spent Friday afternoon with Asela, and we had the best time! So warm and relaxed and mellow! Our boys played video games and we stamped and colored and chatted the afternoon away! {{hugs}} Asela! Hope to see you again soon! Looking forward to Thursday!

Color Dare #21

I took a little tiny break with all of the excitement around here! Let me tell you, I am NOT a night owl, and staying up until 3 A.M. on Sunday night was not an easy feat! ;) It sure was fun though! What an experience the past few days have been! I am so grateful for such a warm welcome to the Dirty Dozen. Your comments have been such a treasure to me! Thank you SO MUCH!

Today is Color Dare #21! I can't believe there have been that many already! Time is just flying by!

This week's colors are Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue, Riding Hood Red, and So Saffron. I wanted to use this adorable birthday mouse, and was really happy that he would work for this week's color combination. He has been sitting there waiting patiently! I stamped him with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with prismas and Gamsol. I wanted it to look like there was a birthday candle glow all around, so I started with warm background colors and then finished up with the cooler foreground colors. I used SU patterned paper and the retired Sale-a-bration ribbon. I am not sure where these buttons came from, but they were a near enough match that I decided to use one and kept everything else very streamlined and simple. Such a fast, fun card.

SNSS Design Team Round-up!

Isn't this the cutest little *bug* ever?! Don't you just love the expression on his sweet face? He is sure to bring a smile to someone suffering from a bug of any sort! He is from Gone Buggy, a Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps set that is going to be released TONIGHT! I found this bright and fun buggy/froggy paper at the LSS when I was in Louisiana and couldn't wait to combine it with this set! This was previously a digital stamp but will be available for the upcoming release in acrylic only.

I have been trying to get more practice with my Copics, so I used Memento ink and Copic markers to color this image. I went over the wings with a clear At-You Spica pen to get some sparkle and shine. The layout is from a previous Sweet Stop sketch that I didn't get to play...I reversed the sentiment and bling accents so that the words would be legible and not lost in the designer print. I couldn't resist some bling antennae and sparkly ribbon!

My image, DRS' newly released Leonard's Sickday Blues, was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa, then colored with prismas and Gamsol, cut out with Nesties, and accented with a little brown Micron. Definitely not one of my best cards...I have had a few small distractions lately! (check out this post!) :)

Banana Split Sunday!

It's Banana Split Sunday! I am so excited to get to show you a brand new stamp set from 2RedBananas, illustrated by Jami Bova. Don't you LOVE this sweet stroller? It's in a new set called Precious Bundles that will be released on Wednesday. I think its lines are so lovely, and I just couldn't resist using my favorite girlie paper again! I hope you like it as much as I do! I need to order more because I am down to one little sliver. In fact, it pained me to turn the stripe face down to show those little flowers...the stripe is the one I love the most! I used my Copic markers to color my image, and gave my card some pink bling and faux suede ribbon just for fun. I am very happy with how soft and sweet it looks. I especially enjoy making girlie things because I am outnumbered two to one in our house! ;)

DRS Blog Hop

Have you been seeing all of the DRS Designs sneak peeks this week? My design team mates have been creating some wonderful things, making ready for the release this Saturday! Lots of great stamps! Can you tell which ones are my favorites? LOL! All week I've been on a kick with these coffee stamps. Maybe it is also because I have needed a little caffeine kick to get all of my *to-do's* done!

I *love* coffee! I grew up in Southwest Louisiana, and have fond memories of the neighborhood moms gathering for coffee while all of us kids played. I wasn't allowed to drink coffee unless it was coffeemilk--equal portions of each with lots of sugar! Maybe that is why even still, I just can't quite embrace drinking it black! I love going to New Orleans to Cafe` du Monde to have chicory coffee and beignets. YUM!

I am sharing another wood project with you, along with the mug hanger that was featured on DRS' blog yesterday. This is a frame that could be hung on a wall or displayed on a shelf or tabletop. (If you missed that post, you should check it out...I gave instructions for painting with acrylics and tips for working with wood.) The windows were just the right size for one of the three cups that are part of a single stamp, H960. I used a marker directly to the rubber to stamp each one individually, then colored with prismas and gamsol, cut them out and adhered them with dimensionals. To dress it up a bit, I used the Fresh Roast stamp, also marker to rubber, to stamp the words above and below the center window.

I am debating going back with a brown micron to add in some little squiggly shapes (like the ones on each of the coffee cups) around each of the windows. It would add some great detail, but it gives me a bit of trepidation to doodle with permanent ink on a nearly finished project!

As I already mentioned, in my opinion no cup of coffee is complete without a spoonful of sugar, so I altered a little jelly jar to fill with Hawaii vanilla flavored turbinado sugar. Just pour the sugar in, and then poke a few pieces of a vanilla bean into the jar and let it sit, cool and dry, for a while. It's great to sprinkle on pie crusts too!

Color Dare #20

Stamping is always fun, but some cards are definitely more fun than others! This was one that came together quickly and was a real joy to make! The color combination is this week's Color Dare--Pacific Point, Bashful Blue, and Cameo Coral--using OCL's fun set, The Botz Family.

I stamped my image in Black Stazon on regular white cardstock. Next I very quickly stroked in some diluted color from the lid of the Cameo Coral inkpad using a relatively dry aquapainter. It is important to work quickly and use as little water as possible. (Another option would have been to use paper specifically designed for watercoloring, but I wanted the bright clean white color and smooth texture of regular card stock for this image.) I colored the robot with a Bashful Blue marker, then used a blender pen to stroke in a bit of Pacific Point to shade portions of the design and totally color in others. It is interesting to me how the Pacific Point almost looks green in certain spots. The cake was colored in the same manner with Cameo Coral and Bashful Blue markers, then shaded with the blender pen with Pacific Point. I cut and embossed the oval image panel with Nestabilities.

A Cuttlebug numbers embossing folder gives the Cameo Coral layer some texture. The panel of Bashful Blue which tops it has a border of nuts and bolts along the edges and a zig-zag impression with a Cuttlebug border folder in its center, barely visible in the photo.

Yee-haa!

Sometimes an image seems way out of your comfort zone, but then after playing with it for a while, it ends up being one you really love using! When I first saw this image, I was not really sure exactly what I wanted to do with it, but then I saw this cowgirl designer paper and I was instantly inspired! This paper reminds me of my friend Julie...she is definitely all girlie and pink and frilly, but she also owns a horse and does her share of all things associated with taking care of it, IYKWIM!

I stamped the horse with Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto Naturals Ivory card stock, then colored it with a relatively dry aqua painter and Watercolor Wonder crayons. I used a nestabilities oval to cut and emboss it and frame it with a scalloped oval. This was mounted onto a belly band in an offset position to make the most of the words and images of the designer print. All of the edges of the papers are distress-inked with Tim Holtz distress ink in tea dye and vintage photo. I knotted a piece of jute to give it a bit more Western flair.

I went back to the LSS to purchase more of this paper and it was all gone. :( If I can get more, I'd make another card just like this one!

A Simple Sneak Peek!

Today is the beginning of sneak peeks for DRS Designs...there are so many great stamps being released this month! Our team will be showing you new stamp sets all week, and then on Thursday we'll begin our blog hop! Make sure to mark your calendar, because there will be lots of great eye candy and blog candy too! :)

As excited as I am for new rubber, I don't like the idea of abandoning the stamps I already have, so today I'm doing a sneak peek that combines something old with something new. Sounds like it oughta be a bridal card, doesn't it?! Nope, not this time!

This stamp is actually one of DRS' envelope art stamps, but I wanted to practice coloring it with my new copics and use it on a card front. I stamped the image, H710, Sunflower Postage Frame, using Memento Rich Cocoa ink. Then I carefully cut out the window using a craft knife. I used a brown micron pen to sketch in some lines on the outer edges to mimic the lines around the window. If you deliberately use a light touch the pen will skip and make dot-dot-dots...I love the less formal look of it and use that technique (or a little cross hatching to change the effect) often.

I cut a mat slightly larger than my image, softly penciled in some guidelines, then stamped a single sentiment from the new thank-you multiple greetings image that is being released on Saturday. The top layer is on dimensionals to give a little space and shadow around the sentiment. A pretty bow of sheer olive ribbon keeps it simple but dresses it up just a touch. Hope you like it! For me, having some quick and easy options for thank-you's is always helpful! Can't ever seem to have enough around!

Banana Split Sunday!

It's Banana Split Sunday at 2RedBananas, and this week we're combining designer papers for a Pattern Frenzy! I absolutely adore the soft colors of Imaginisce's Loves Me papers, and decided to bring out the pinks of the floral print by using various shades of Copic markers to color Flourish in Flowers' lovely gown. I am so pleased with the way the band of *ribbon* across the bottom of the dress turned out...it pulls the olive colors of the background to the foreground and gives the whole design more depth and dimension.

Sweet 'n Sassy Sweet Stop Sketch

I really love sketch challenges, and this week's sketch at the Sweet 'n Sassy Sweet Stop is a fun one! This colorful little frog from Pond Pals was the perfect fit! I stamped him with Memento ink, colored him with Copic markers, cut and embossed the panels out with square nestabilities, and ended up with this! I love it! I used some Stampin' Up designer paper...the Cuttlebugged polkadot texture of the orange mat mimics the frogs' polkadot skin, and the white dots on the black scallops balance the white across the top. A bold, quick card with a punny sentiment and just enough bling!

Color Dare #19

This week's colors are Baja Breeze, So Saffron, and Kiwi Kiss. I added a bit of black (we're allowed to add neutrals) because the Hero Arts image had a little black line around it and I thought the black would give it more emphasis.

This was just one of those cards that I couldn't quite get happy with! I finally decided to draw a border around the entire card using a Copic multiliner, and that helped it immensely. It is a simple image and simple layout, but I think it turned out sweet. I hope you like it too!

Our Craft Lounge...BIG NEWS!

I am sure that many of you noticed my shiny new Our Craft Lounge blog bling when I added it last week, especially since we threw a little online surprise birthday party for co-owner Joy on Thursday, but it is my privilege today to officially announce that I will be designing for Our Craft Lounge, and to reveal to you this awesome team of designers! I am so thrilled to have my name included among theirs! (Thank you so much, Cambria, Joy, and Kendra for inviting me!) These girls are amazing stampers! I've been stamping with OCL's fun images since I first saw them at i {heart} papers. You'll find these great stamp sets, fabulous papers, all kinds of embellishments and tools in Kate's online store so you can get everything you need and pay only one shipping fee, which is waived if you spend $40 or more. I really love OCL and i {heart} papers!

My card for today features the newly released Oceans of Fun! These designer papers are manufactured by different companies, but I just loved the periwinkle blue that is in both, and that was what inspired the color scheme. I stamped the sea bottom using Memento ink, then masked the image to add the octopus. I colored with a combination of Copic markers and prisma pencils/gamsol. The long card layout shows off the waves and bubbles in the designer paper. Some twine-tied buttons, sparkly ribbon and bling in perfectly matching colors finish it off!

DRS Challenge--Get Well Cards

I just couldn't resist another Cutie Pie Kid (Here for the Party!) card for today's DRS challenge! She is still a favorite, and will be for a long time to come! I omitted her balloon for this challenge, replacing it with a flower so that she is more fitting for a get-well card. The sentiment, Just a Note, works for any occasion.

I used DCWV glitter pack of designer paper, and colored my image with prismas, gamsol, and a bit of Spica clear glitter. The ovals are cut and embossed with nestabilities. I took a single bloom, folded it in half, inserted a few stamen and then folded it in thirds with a glue dot inside to hold everything together.

I love these fun, bright, cheery colors! I think she looks very sweet and would be bound to brighten someone's spirits when they're feeling under the weather!
