Ross Lovegrove - organic design

ok, so, another video reflection..
this time is a designer called ross lovegrove. u can check out the video on top of this..

this guy been inspired by nature and how nature works in his designs..
he design something organic, but not a usual organic shape that we've been looking at..
he make organic shape from nature..
sometimes nature really works effectively, and that's why he apply the nature concept in his design
and as how other designers found, he found that technology need to catch up with the design possibilities.. so he also think about innovative manufacturing process or material
as he himself interested in science..

so this video is really helps in changing your perspective of what organic design is..
and the possibilities in manufacturing processes and the material used..

furthermore you definitely need to see the video to understand more about what i'm talking about.

Don Norman Emotional Design

This time is review for a very famous Don Norman the cognitive scientist.

basically he noted that pleasant things works better subconsciously.
therefore a good design is when you can design a daily things into a fun pleasant object.
it can be through visceral, behavioural and reflective.

visceral is through the outer look of it. what does it naturally drives our brain to relate it to.
as in why people loves bright colours, smiley faces, dislike loud voice, not interested when the object makes them insecure and etc.
basically it's how you present the object is what makes it interesting, makes it lovable, neat.


behavioural design is about feeling in control, such as usability and understanding.


reflective is how the brain tells you whether it's dangerous or safe, good or bad
and when you design something that always looking safe, comforting, encouraging, the user will be easily emotionally attracted to it, wants it, care about it, and etc.

this is very good for design knowledge
how to make objects lovable is how we could sell our products.









now my time for personal opinion,
this cognitive facts of how human's emotion works
is actually applied in every single thing in our daily life.
yes, i'm talking about everything in life!

such as..

you need to present yourself or your resume good in those 3 points to be easier to get a job

if you bring yourself as good in terms of those 3 points, you'll b a lovable person..
it'll be easier for you to get a bf or gf, easier to be loved by your spouse, etc etc.

so.. i think this video n theory from Don Norman is helpful, not only in design,
but in how we can makes a positive drive in our life.

so, design yourself nicely.

Beetle on your bike.. for safety!!

Yo guys, so this is my poster for Beetle the safety light



obviously said there on my poster that it designed by Catalyst
and manufactured by Knog

so about the form and overall look of it
i reckon the crop on the left and right edges +
the bigger top than bottom proportion +
crystal look from geometric patterns on the clear cover of the LED =

Tough look..

yeah.. good maths equation there..

yet, i think because of

elastic material + curved on the top (to soften the geometric feeling)
+ options of colourful colours =

more fun looking product..

basically makes this design suitable for formal look,
kiddy look, teenage, old people, whatever..

i know the review from me is not good enough bout the form
coz seriously i don't really like the form

but oh well, the form itself supports the possibility for less parts
i'm personally more interested in products with less parts
and silicone rubber!! omg, they are so sexy..

so yes, this product does made of silicone rubber
and does made out of less parts..
as what you can see, it doesn't have any locking system
the lock is only the hook that is the same piece as the LED clear cover
and the body that is made of silicone rubber.

this safety light is way smaller than normal LED safety light
they are usually long in shape, because they use AA battery

Beetle use coin cell battery!
so they can make the slim lighting system..
the LED is less than the usual safety lights too..
usually they are made of 3-7 LEDs
this Beetle from Catalyst is only made of 2 LEDs!!!


pretty pretty pretty..

the overall look of design really look like wanna bite you..


i'm out of the form topic but i juz can't help myself
talking bout the technical
because..
what's better than a simpler effective product???

hopefully one day i can design as good as this..
let's go reduce everything!!
but don't reduce food please.. ^^
