"You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!"

Last night at 1800 hours we all met for 5 rounds of Nerf combat training.

These ain't no games for the faint of heart.

It was the Sergent's vs. the Rookies.

Casualties are common (as well as pouting).
One hit, you're out.

Wouldn't you know it in the last round I took a Nerf dart to the eye. I really did shoot my eye out! 12 hours later I still see only black out of the bottom portion of my right eye.

After a visit to the eye doctor today I will be purchasing eye protection for everyone or those d#@* guns will be in the garbage.

Christmas at our house.

Christmas doesn't all have to be about red and green.

In fact, it provides for less predictability in your decor (and makes your step father question what you were thinking).

While in Vegas my mom and I made made our own stockings.
(Fabric from IKEA).

Found these mirrored trees at a thrift store.

I had visions of a black and white Christmas paired with silver accents.
With the left over fabric we made initials for everyone in our family.
I printed 475 point, Century font on the computer. Then traced the letters on doubled fabric. We put a piece of poster board between the fabric and secured it with spray glue to make the letters stiff then cut the initials out.

I made tons of DIY UNBREAKABLE snow flakes made of pipe cleaners. Of course the boys think they're Chinese stars. Instructions here.

Merry Christmas to all!

Potty talk.

I'm so sick of pee on the floor.
No amount of daily wiping, scrubbing or disinfecting really help.
Last time we visited grandparents in Vegas someone in our family (who has been promised anonymity) broke the toilet seat. A few months and diet later we came back to visit and discovered a really cool new invention. A kiddie seat option designed right in to the regular seat.

No more stand alone kid potty sitting in the corner of the bathroom floor.
No more removable seat dripping with kuck after use.
I'm heading straight Home Depot when I get home.

Law of attraction?

I've often heard stories of lucky souls finding amazing treasures along side the road. Never before have I ever experienced such luck. This was sitting on the curb with a sign that said, "free". (There was also a handicap potty up for grabs but I passed on that). A new coat of paint and upholstery will do wonders.

I kid you not I have been searching Craigslist for over a year looking for a pair of these chairs. How is it that I walk out of my mom's house and it's staring at me from across the street?

Ever read "The Secret"? I'm now a believer.

My latest Craigslist Acquisition.

I've been looking for a square table to tuck in this corner for some time now.
After browsing Craigslist I found this vintage chrome and glass table that was perfect.

I'm not sure the guy new what he had because he gave it to me for $50.00. I later found an almost identical table a Mid century store for $950.00.

These are currently on Ebay for $400.00

And this chrome and glass vintage table is also on Ebay for $3200.00.

This is what a nice Sunday drive up a curvy canyon looks like...

A few pit stops to toss his cookies on the side of the road.
(Takes after his dad).

Look-y what I found...

I haven't been thriftin' much lately. Got discouraged when I truly found nothing but junk for a few months straight so I quit going. On a whim I stopped in at my local Savers and found a pair of bamboo end tables.

Back in business!

Faux Skin Alligator Matting Project.

I have a back log of DVR'd Nate Berkus show episodes that I've working to get through. Nate is sooo talented and charming but I admit I have to watch the shows on fast-forward so I can get to the projects.

This morning at 2:30am (dealing with pregnancy insomnia lately) I watched an episode (here)where he took some $7.00, blue faux alligator skin matting and covered the bottom of this West Elm tray. GENIUS!

I've been scouring the Internet all morning looking for the source where he found his matting. He said it was only $7.00 per sheet. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks to all the commenters who gave a variety of great sources! Eyeseepretty and Becky found the exact match at Kate's Paperie here. Way to go girls!
