4H

Okay, so I realize that's it's been over 2 months since I've lasted put up a post here and that all it I did was a cryptic post about how I have a 4H group so here's my explanation.

Back in September a friend of ours, Megan, got a job as the 4H coordinator for an Elementary School in Orem. She knew that I did theatre in high school so she asked me if I wanted to be the group leader for a club. I thought it sounded pretty fun so I said sure.

So I found myself in charge of 13 kids between 4th and 6th grade. We had good times as we learned about Upstage Left and Down Center Stage. I (kind of) taught them how to project their voices. We even did a few improv games. Then came the time to decide what we were going to do for our Parent Showcase. Well it made sense to have them put on a play but the tough part was figuring out what play. It could only be about 10 minutes because all of the other clubs were doing something for their parents too. So I decided to bring out the Shakespeare in me and write a play. It's called the 3 Wolves. It's the stories of the 3 Little Pigs mixed with Little Red Riding Hood and the Boy Who Cried Wolf. We'll see how it goes since 2 of the kids have moved, another told the other kids that I was "stupid" and quit coming and another just stopped showing up. I've combined as many parts as I could but if on Dec. 2nd a kid doesn't show up I just might have to make an appearance on stage... let's hope they all show!

So that's my story. It's been a lot of fun but a little stressful as well so I don't think that I'll be able to do it again next semester.

Shakepeare Superstars

That's the name of the 4H club that I'm in charge of. I have 12 kids and in 10 weeks we get to put on a 10 minute play for their parents. Makiesha is amazing and taking direction and is just fantastic. Judah needs to learn to take direction and keep his behind on the ground. The other kids, only time will tell.

Dentist Visit

It's been a year since I last went and I only have one cavity. The hygenist did say that I have excellent oral hygene. If only my brsuhing and flossing everyday would actually do something about my trend in cavities I'd be a little more pleased with myself.

Another Win

This was posted on Thursday on the other blog that Sara has created for us. I wasn't paying attention when I was clicking around in Dashboard.

John told me that he lost one game in the middle of the day yesterday but I watched another of his games last night and they pulled off a thrilling last minute win. I saw him score a couple baskets at the beginning and a steal (or pass from the other team right to him) later on. He looked pretty good. I was talking to him after the game while we had a Jamba, he needs to be a little more aggressive on the rebounds but I really can't say much, I wasn't the most intense basketball player (unless you count my two steals I had in church ball).

Just FYI: I have a meeting with the counselors at 4 and then dinner. After dinner we are with the campers. Basketball has practice/games until 9 so we just watch. Other sports have free time we have to figure out what to do, like play games or go get ice cream.

Winning

I just watched John's team win a game at Sports Camp. They looked pretty good if I do say so myself.

Wednesday Night

15 boys, each with their own box of pizza running through the Tanner building, narrowly avoiding the security officer to slip into a classroom so that we could watch a movie on our free time at sports camp. It was awesome.

Self Control

Something I'll need to exercise while I stay in the dorms and have the option to eat at the Cannon Center.

First Day

Four kids didn't have a counselor so I took them into my group. One of those kids fractured his wrist during the field games trying to block a kick from another counselor. He spent a few hours in the ER then his dad picked him up this morning. I also helpped another kid who might have broken one of his toes. At least I wasn't bored.

Beginning Sports Camps

I haven't written because I haven't felt that anything interesting has happened well things are about to change. Last Wednesday I went the counselor retreat and today the games begin.

The retreat was at Spring Haven where we spent about 2 hours actually discussing what's going to happen at the camps the rest was spent playing games. Around midnight I was rather tired so I pulled out the inflatable mattress that I borrowed from Brent and Amber put it in the middle of the room where the piano was being played, ESPN was on and yelling and cheering could be heard through the open door where volleyball was being played. I fell asleep in a matter of minutes and the next morning not only were all the boys jealous (I was the only one to bring a mattress) but the girls were all impressed that as they all were leaving out half of the lodge to go to bed that with all the noise I could stay asleep. I can sleep through just about anything.

Let's just hope that if children are in mortal danger or are in the process of ripping a door off it's hinges that I'd wake up for that.

And Done

Four finals in two days. Three being simple multiple choice tests done in less than an hour but one being 10 essay questions with a page to write about for each one. After three hours of writing and a hand in pain all I can say is that it's done. I'll have a whole week here with nothing to do but work and relax. How great is that?

Really great. I like answering rhetorical questions.

Lost and Found

I lost my cell phone charger last week. I thought I left it at home when I went there for conference weekend. My phone went dead on Wednesday and I lost contact with the world. When I went back on Friday night it was nowhere to be found. In Provo I had cleaned my room three times and went through my apartment twice, I couldn't find it. Finally, yesterday I broke down and bought a new charger. I came home, plugged it into the wall and I found my lost charger sitting on the floor below the socket. I have no idea where it came from.

It's Offical

I guess it's been almost a week and I should probably make the formal announcement. Sara an I are engaged. I proposed last Saturday while we were walking on the path by the ponds. We stopped at the Utah House and after sitting there for a bit, as I was coming up with what to say, I finally said "There's just no good way to lead into this" and I got down on one knee and asked Sara Caroline Behnke if she would marry me and she said yes.

She had a good idea that it was coming though, when we left Provo we picked up Brent so that all the boys could go to the Priesthood session together. Brent didn't answer his phone so Sara ran up to the door to get him. Sammi and Amber answered and while Amber was going to get Brent, Sammi said "I have a ring for you, no, my daddy has a ring for you. Let me go get it." The night before when Sara's mom was visiting we went to Brent and Amber's to play some games and while Amber was distracting Sara I showed her mom the ring but I wasn't able to put the ring in my jacket and so I left it there. Sammi saw Brent putting the ring in his bag and she asked about it and Brent explained that Uncle Will was going to give it to Aunt Sara. Well Sammi got a little confused about that fact and just know that Aunt Sara was going to get a ring. She couldn't find Brent's bag so instead she grabbed the Safari Mr. Potato Head and showed Sara the earring that was on it but by that point Sara had a pretty good idea of what was going to be happening.

I Got It!

Last night I was sworn to secrecy because the other applicants hadn't been informed of the decision to make me the new Student Manager. I had to be careful, I don't know who actually looks at my blog, maybe Mike or Josh could have been stalking me to see when they could eliminate me from competition. I'll be training over the summer with Ashley, the current Student Manager of Jamba Juice and I'll take over starting Fall Semester.

Of All Places

An odd thing happened Saturday night. As Sara and I were leaving Smith's who should we run into? The Laws from Madison! All of the sudden I found myself being embraced by Sis. Law without realizing who it was for a moment. Their son Ted, who's room I lived in for 6 months, got married in San Diego on Friday and they drove the wedding presents here and before they even went to their apartment they stopped in at Smith's. It was a great to see them, and I even got to introduce them to Sara. They're going to be back in Utah for their niece's wedding on August 8th, too bad I'll be in Seattle.

Got the Job

I got the job to be a BYU Sports and Dance Camp Counselor. The title is deceiving, I'm not going to be helping out with the sports or dancing. I'm get to take care of the little chillins' at night. I'll do things like take them to Seven Peaks and have ice cream parties. The tough part of my job is that I have to make sure that they don't take of in the middle of the night and cause havoc on the streets of Provo. Tough gig, I know.

It's Been A While

I haven't been up to much lately. But there are a few noteworthy things involving the members of my apartment.

Tucker is moving out next week (0r possibly the week after that, I'm not sure). He's going to Oregan to be a firefighter. Yet again, more changes to the apartment. I ran into Jeff Shumway in the Wilk today and he's thinking about moving back in. Crazy.

Kang is getting baptized on the 14th of March. It's going to be a nice experience. I get to play the piano. It's a responsibility I can handle.

Happy President's Day!

How many people can say that they participated in a President's Day Surprise Party? Well, 8 people since this morning. Presidents wordsearch, Presidential trivia (which I won, way to go President Polk!) and a Spiderman pinata with dear old Abe's face on it full of discount valentines.

It was more fun than you can imagine. So fun I didn't get any pictures... my bad.

The Weekend

I figure I should at least mention this before it gets too far away. Last Thursday (the 15th) I got a call from Sara saying "We're planning a road trip to California, we're leaving tomorrow at 4:00 if you want to come." I said I'd think about it, thirty seconds later I thought "What is there to think about?"

We slept at Sara's Aunt's house in Riverside and spent all day Saturday at the beach. Sunday at church and at the park. We got up at 4:30 on Monday to get back to the beach for the sunrise. Did some body surfing (and some sleeping) then headed back home at around noon.

Total cost for the spontaneous road trip over the three day weekend: $26. Well worth it.

Broken Speakers

For the past 2 weeks or so the speakers that we plug our MP3 players in at Jamba Juice have been broken. That just leaves us with the radio/CD player. Nobody thinks to bring in CD's of their own which means that for the past two weeks the blenders have been attempting to drown out the sounds of Guster, Better Than Ezra and Collective Soul, but no avail.

I Love Kang

Kang likes things to be clean. One of the reasons that I made the bundt cake was because Kang had deep clened the kitchen so I took advantage of that I made a cake to celebrate (I cleaned everything up afterwards, don't worry). That cleanliness has spread. This morning Casey decided that a major part of our apartment messiness was his rather large HDTV so today he packed it up and took it home. Casey, Mike, Kang and my self have been cleaning and rearranging for the past 3 or 4 hours., the place looks amazing and when Tucker wakes up he won't even recognize the place.

Chocolate Bundt Cake

I used my spring-bundt-form pan last night for the first time to make a chocolate bundt cake. I didn't wait long enough for it to cool before trying to flip it so it lost its neat looking top, all of the chocolate chips inside were exposed. Don't worry, I covered them with a chocolate glaze.

(Yet Another) New Roommate

Piece out with the sushi bro'

So Jun moved out before Christmas to have his contract sold before moving back to Korea in February. He's moved into Orem on a month by month rent. The new kid is from Korea as well, his name is Kang (pronounced Khan as in The Wrath of). Jun still comes to our ward so he doesn't have to switch wards for two months. Afterwords he came back to our apartment to make us some awesome sushi.

Kang and Mike rockin' the goatee

It was delicious and nutirious. As not only was there that plate piled high but there was another one too. So good, so good.

Candy Trains

I'm a little late in posting these pictures but it's better than never.

Mine a Laura's. The pile of licorice is Devils Snare from Harry Potter.

Holli flew solo on this one, she couldn't make anything work so it all ended with a explosion going off.

A team of four (Kevin, Sara, Megan and Laura) were sent to the kiddie table and they came up with this work of art. I think the use of pyrotechnics should disqualify them for the running.

It's took bad I didn't get a picture of Carson's. She used some brown sugar to create a nice desert feel to hers.

Weekend of Sports

So the Crimson Tide lost to the Utes, I'm not that upset about it. I had a bunch of friends down for the game and Brent and Amber were so kind as to cook us all a bunch of Japanese food and let us wtach the game there. Ryan and Jeff were the Utah fans, Rob and I were for Alabama and Eric played the neutral party. The Utes came to play and they won the game and about halfway throught the thrid quarter (still with plenty of time for Alabama to come back and win the game) I came to the concluision that I wouldn't mind at all if Utah won, and they did so it's all good.

You wanna mess wit' us?

Saturday was the big BYU men's basketball game against #6 Wake Forest. The Real Salt Lake game was intense but I think this one beat it. I've never been so worked up in my life. The lead changed almost a dozen times, there were contriversial calls, stuff was thrown on the court, BYU's coach took the mic and told us all to clam down, it was nuts. The final score doesn't reflect how close the game was, Wake Forest pulled away in the last minute because of fouls and whatnot. So crazy, so crazy.
