Youth Day

In Singapore,Youth Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of July.

And thanks for that, it spills over to monday and becomes a sch holiday for us. Long weekend.
Did nothing much, went to jog with a few friends... but what is the purpose of youth day? How are other youths spending their time on this day dedicated to them?

Well, when running around Bedok reservoir, I could feel the 'alive-ness' in me, the coolness of the wind; the speed of youth.

But looking back at my peers, at my generation: How many is spending their time at home, lazing around playing pc games, watching TV?

I'm not really one to talk; I hardly do much physical work. But I think we don't appreciate our youth enough; Carefree, happy days: let's try to enjoy them before the working life hits us.

Come to think of it, adults would know how to appreciate youth better; You won't miss it until you lose it. Youth is yet another thing that is unappreciated. "Youth is wasted on the young." Myths about fountains of youth, living for an eternity; All fantasies of the adult.

Hmm. Out of curiosity I wiki-ed youth day. Seems that Youth day is not only for appreciating youth, but also has religious and political agendas. Give us a break, will ya?

Anyway, here are some data from wikipedia: International Youth day, designated by the UN: "
meant as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide". World youth day, "youth oriented Roman Catholic Church promotional event aimed at young people."

Oh, and different countries celebrate youth day on different days of the year, for various reasons, e.g. marking an important event in national history. (is it because awareness of this event is aimed at the youths, or politicians want the event to be held in a higher status?)

Oh well. Let me get some rest before school starts tmr. Getting some exam results.. hopefully I don't get too depressed, ya?

The higher the expectations, the higher the fall.

TTFN =)
