Remember her?

The last eight or so blogs have been all-boy and so here is a little bit of girlie for all of you out there who have been wondering if I had forgotten that I had a baby girl. Nope. She is going to be eight months tomorrow so I figure I better give an update on what has been happening with her. She is still a major mommy's girl. It doesn't seem to be letting up. I love it. It does make daddy and the grandparents a tad jealous but she will not always be this way so they are going to just have to deal. She waves good-bye and says what we are guessing is hi. She claps her hands(palm on top of hand) and says yah. She shakes her head but we are not sure if it means no or if she does it as a sign of approval. She does this funny little thing where she puts her chin on her chest when she is bugged or upset. She has a myriad of giggles from a high-pitched shriek to a deep dark belly laugh. She is cuddly. She loves food especially avocadoes, bananas, and potatoes. She still jabbers all of the time. She loves baby dolls and her brothers. She could roll to New York if there was nothing in her way. She wakes up every morning with her covers tucked neatly under her chin as if she has not moved an inch. She does belly-ups. Bath time is the right time for her. She is not afraid to show her emotions. She is starting to bounce and dance to any beat even when I sing to her. She loves to dance with me. She is irresistable.

Snow anyone?

Here is what it looks like when your mom won't take you sledding somewhere cool. If you are my children nothing stops your fun not even the wet blanket that is your mother. You improvise. There is nothing better than a neighbors long driveway to get in some sledding action. (a quick sorry to the Lau's who had to shovel that sucker after our children turned it into a packed ice slick) They had a blast and can't wait until we get more snow and I cave in and take them somewhere worthy of their sledding skills.

Sins washed away? Check!

Saturday 8th Henry David Bake(on the church records Dickes) got baptized by his Grandpa David Ronald Selman and confirmed by his father David Lorin Bake. It was a little surreal for a few reasons. #1 Henry is 8 and I am still a little shocked by the whole thing. My child old enough to be baptized? #2 My father baptized him. Now to those of you who did not grow up in the Selman household you can not understand just how big this is. This was my dad's first time ever baptizing anyone. A few years ago my dad decided after about 40 years of inactivity( he was a member long enough to be baptized like the rest of the neighbor boys)to start going to church. In fact he is so new to the whole priesthood thing that he did not even hold it when Max was blessed(5 years ago) It was amazing. Plus add to that my dear tenderhearted husband doing the confirmation and it was a very sweet experience. I am so glad Henry wanted to be baptized and truly seemed to understand what that really means. Hopefully this is his first step in a long line of steps that keep him close to his Father in Heaven. I am so proud.

It is not worth it

Okay, so have you ever just reread through your blog and realized that you are grammatically challenged in the most major way? I just did. People, why are you not editing my blogs? I count on you people to keep me honest, to expose my faults so that I can improve. I just realized my blogs are a series of run-on sentences with nary a care for correct postitioning of apostraphies, periods, colons, semi-colons. For heaven's sake people, it is no wonder I was passed over for AP English. Which was quite devestating at the time, by the way. I had dreams of writing children's books. All dashed to pieces by the Payson High English department. Just think where I would be by now if they had only believed in me? The next Sarah Boynton? Or atleast a girl with a blog that did not seem to be written by a second grader with a limited understanding of sentence structure. Sheesh!
*No offense to any second graders out there.

He ain't heavy...he's my brother

See these two crazy boys? These boys are not only crazy they are also very funny. Turns out that they are best friends and probably the two coolest cats in all of the world. If you don't believe it, let me offer some proof.
Item #1
They say a "brother's prayer" every night. Don't ask me where and when it all started but the other night Henry reminded Max it was his turn to say the "brother's prayer". Turns out they do it every night right before their personal ones.Item #2
They have the quintessential big brother/little brother relationship in the bag.
Observe
(While lying in bed one night ,as heard by D. Bake)
Henry-sharing all of his extensive knowledge about dragons
Max-"gee Henry you sure do know a lot about dragons, you are so smart"
Henry-"yeah, Iam. I probably know more than Mom and Dad."
Item #3
They get up every morning and get themselves ready for school. On the days that I am feeding Millie or just a lazy bones they help each other get cereal. Henry is in charge of the bowls and pouring the milk and Max pours the cereal and gets the spoons.
Item #4
When they were the "Special" students in their seperate classes they each listed the other as their best friend.Item#5
They can play together for hours. Making up games, playing outside on the trampoline, digging for treasure. Sometimes I feel they are raising each other.Item #6
They forgive each other pretty quick. After all the tattling, neck choking, accidental karate kicks to the head, yelling, and screaming they still stick up for each other. They stand together against all foes ie. the bus stop kids, the neighborhood bullies, the strangers and often times their parents.Item # 7
After years of being raised by a single mom they fell in love with Dave just like I did. They have embraced him as their dad and have been willing to share me with him, in fact they have crossed over to the dark side and mostly prefer him.Item #8
They both fell in love with their sister on site. A jealous moment hasn't happened yet, even though she bogarts the attention of everyone, especially their mother and their grandparents. They are so sweet and careful with her and get such a kick out of making her giggle. I can't wait to see how she fits into the mix as they all get older. Dang, I like these peeps A LOT.Told you they were cool cats.

Setting the record straight...once again

I need to set the record straight...Megan pointed out that Max has another forehead injury. Let me explain. We have these little toys that are the shape of bowls and if you turn them inside out and set them on the ground they pop into the air and are very enjoyable and exciting. Well Max and Henry discovered that if you push them onto your skin-- voila'-- suctioned to your head. Well Max got the great idea of leaving the suction cup on his head for awhile(we have not exactly determined yet just how long it was) and low and behold a perfectly round forehead hicky that has lasted, going on two weeks. No, we do not abuse our children, even though a forehead hicky may be just the punishment they deserve.

No...Eight? Fo shizzle my nizzle!

So my eldest child turned eight on the 23rd. I can't even believe he is old enough to be baptized. (or as he and Max say it..bathtized) He is seriously turning out to be amazing despite his mother and all of her craziness. First of all he is really starting to develop his sense of humor and is constantly trying to make his dad and me laugh and quite often he succeeds. He is still the very best big brother to Max and Millie. Kind and patient and always willing to do what needs to be done to keep the peace. He is still about as creative as can be and lately just wants to chat me up about all of the things that are going on in his head. He is becoming one of my favorite people and not just because his is my child. I think I would like him even if he did not come straight from my loins. He is just easy, peasy and a pretty cool kid. Plus he reminds me a lot of me as a little kid, over-protective of his siblings, paranoid about all kinds of weird stuff, and in his own little world. I could not love him more. I am truly so glad he was my first.

A whole pumpkin pie? honestly where is your self control?

MaxHenry and MIllie
Matt and his friend Emily
Kimby and Uncle Mace
D. Bake
In case you didn't know it pumpkin pie is one of my favorite foods in the whole world. I have it instead of a birthday cake every year. Well this year I was in charge of bringing pumpkin pie so I just cooked up a whole extra one to leave at our house. It was gone by Thursday night. Don't judge me I really do want to hold on to this extra twenty pounds of baby weight, no I really do. I make cellulite and spare tires look awesome.

Other than that it was quite a nice day thanks to Elva D. who single-handedly took on Thanksgiving and kicked it's butt. The pictures don't even begin to show how fun it was. Plus they are missing good pictures of three key players....mom, dad and me.

7th Heaven?

Ok so the gal made it to 7 months. She did a very good job of it. She can finally sit up without support. Every once in a while she does lose her balance and goes crashing backwards onto her head. Fun times. She is a rolling maniac and can really do it quickly. She says da-da-da and na-na and ba-ba and ma- ma with reckless abandon, I like to pretend that she knows what she is talking about but I really am just fooling myself. She is a growler, by this I mean she makes this growly little sound all the time when she is hanging out. She loves food and seeing as- how she is my third child I pretty much let her eat almost anything.(which happens to make Henry very protective "Can she really eat that?" "does that have milk in it?" "should she be eating that steak?") Lately she has developed a fondness for Mac n' Cheese. We are teaching her sign language. ( we'll see how long that lasts) She has actually mastered the sippy cup. She will let me read to her but still wants mostly to eat the books. She has either been teething for a month or she has the disposition of a hungry grizzly bear. She is getting to be a bigger mommy's girl daily( I know, is that even possible) The boys still love her and so do her parents.

The pictures are of her talking so they are rather funny. Hooray for Millie!!!

I am a child of God

Well Max had a little pal over today and Dave was listening to them talk and here is what he heard....

Max: (in a monster voice)"I am a child of God..."
Toby: "Do you even go to church?"
Max: "Yes"
Toby: "What church do you go to?"
Max:" I don't know. The one over there down the road."

Playing resumed for awhile and then....

Max: (in a monster voice)" I am a child of God..."
Toby: "Are you making fun of the Lord Jesus?"
Max: at a loss for words..."um, No"

Then in their sweet little 5 year old voices they broke into a very spiritual(not making fun of the Lord Jesus) rendition of "I am a child of God".

Ahhh, the comfort of knowing that my children's friends will keep them on the path to eternal salvation.
