Thanksgiving 2010

This year we spent Thanksgiving at my parent's house. Man was it COLD!!! They live in Heber and it never got about like 10 degrees the whole time we were there. We went up on Wednesday and spent the night. It was -11 that night and the power decided to go out for like 5 hours! Our only source of heat was a wood burning stove. Luckily we were sleeping in the family room where the stove was..so we stayed nice and toasty! :)

We let Hannah play out in the snow for about 10 minutes..because it was so cold....She had fun even though she froze her little tush off! :)

This is a picture of my parents windows in the family room. They were iced over!! That is how cold it was! :) Grandma helped Hannah write her name in the window.
Our first family picture with Charlie. His first Thanksgiving! He slept through most of it. :)
We spent the day cooking and watching home videos of when I was a kid. Hannah thought it was cool to see mom when she was "little." We had so much fun watching these home videos that we decided to buy a video camera so that we could start recording the kids growing up! Brandon's sister did us a huge favor and went and bought us one at Shopko during black friday! Thanks Jessica! :) We can't wait to start using it!

Pictures of Charlie

My friend Jamie is learning to do photography and she stopped by the other day to take a couple pictures of Charlie.

Isn't he the cutest? I love this picture!

Of course we had to take a picture with his binkie in his mouth!

Hannah wanted to get in on the action as well!

2 weeks old

Charlie had his 2-week check up and he has not gained any weight since we left the hospital. He was born at 7 lbs 1 oz and now he's 6 lbs 12 oz. The doctor was not really thrilled about that...he said he should have been at least back to his birthweight. He's eating, he's just not eating enough. So we go back next week to get him weighed again. Hopefully he will start gaining weight. His surgeon wants him to be at least 10 lbs for his first surgery which is scheduled in January. So let's hope he starts to gain some weight!! He only has 2 months to gain a little more than 3 pounds.

Hannah is already having a really hard time adjusting to Charlie, but to make matters worse she has a cough/cold. So then she feels even more left out because we won't let her hold/touch him. Yesterday Charlie had his two week check-up and so I brought one of these masks home for her. She kept it on for about 2.5 seconds! :)

She loves her little brother and just wants to play with him! Last night when she got home from her Grandma Great's house the first thing she asked was, "Where's my brother?" it took me a minute to understand what she was saying because she was saying it so fast....but I thought it was the cutest thing!

Caught in the act....

Hannah caught me red handed.....I guess this is what happens when you are sleep deprived and you leave your camera out. Hannah took like 20 pictures of random things...including me taking a snooze on the couch with Charlie.

I also wanted to post a picture of Charlie. If you haven't noticed....Charlie has red hair. Well it's like reddish-brown. In the light it is very much red, but in low light it looks more like brown.

When the Dr. delivered Charlie the first thing he asked was, "where did this red hair come from!" I was shocked! I actually had teased Brandon a few months back about having a red-headed boy, and lo and behold Charlie came out a red-head. I love it and I hope it stays! He can thank his Grandpa Jim and Grandma Joyce for the red hair! :)

Adjusting....

Hannah has had a very hard time adjusting to Charlie and all the changes around the house. The other day this is what we found.
She has colored all over her newly painted dresser....
and all over Charlie's glider stool.

Hopefully this stage will end soon.....

Charlie's Birth Story

Yesterday was supposed to be Charlie's Birthday. Last Tuesday at my Dr appointment we scheduled a c-section for November 10th because Charlie was still breech. Well Charlie had other plans. He couldn't wait to meet us! :)

Wednesday afternoon I started to have contractions that were 10 minutes apart. I didn't think much of it because on Monday I had the same type of contractions and I didn't end up going into labor. I went about my day like normal and even went to school that night. My contractions continued all night long and kept me awake all night.

By 5 in the morning I noticed that they were getting closer together and I had just had a really painful one. They started coming 5 minutes apart and then 4 minutes apart and then by the time it was 7 they were coming 3 minutes apart and I was in a lot of pain. By this time I called Brandon and he didn't answer. I waited a couple minutes then called him again. He still didn't' answer. I tried calling him for like 45 minutes and still couldn't get a hold of him. By that time I started panicking! I finally called my mom in a panic and told her I was in labor and I couldn't get a hold of Brandon!

I also called Joyce to come pick Hannah up and by that time Brandon finally called me back. We finally made it to the hospital at about 9 and they checked me and I was 3 centimeters dialated. They called my doctor and he told them to watch me for an hour and see if I progressed more. I was a little mad that they didn't admit me by that time because I was in a lot of pain and I was going to have to have a c-section anyways! By the time the hour passed I was dialated to a 4

They started to prep me for a c-section and by 11:30 they wheeled me into the operating room and by 12:05 Charlie James was born.

The doctor was able to see inside his mouth and told us that his palate was closed!! We were so excited! We were told at the ultrasounds that his palate was involved and so we were expecting the worst and to find out that it was not was a true blessing. His gum-line does have a notch in it, which will require surgery, but we were expecting that.

We are home now and trying to adjust to life with a newborn. Hannah is having a hard time with the adjustment, but overall we are doing great. I do have to say I would have much rather had a normal birth and not have a c-section. The recovery has been a lot harder and more painful.

Charlie has his first appointment with his surgeon on Friday to discuss his cleft and when we will do his first surgery. I am looking forward to see what he says and what we can expect in the months to come.

Charlie LOVES his binky! We were not going to let him have a binky because it's hard for them to keep it in their mouths and they usually can't have it after they have surgery. Well this little guy knows how to hold the binky in his mouth himself! I can hardly get a picture without him covering his face with his hands or without a binky in his mouth. :)

We love him to pieces!

Halloween 2010

We had a lot of fun celebrating Halloween. Hannah was so excited to go trick or treating. This year she dressed up as a witch! She had so much fun in her costume, she wore it for like 3 days straight. :) Here are just a few pictures of our Halloween celebrations this year.

Hannah and Dad carving pumpkins! She had fun playing with the pumpkin guts!

Hannah and Ella posing for the camera!
Hannah trick or treating in the rain! She had more fun with her umbrella than she did trick or treating! :)
