Work Med

Went over to Instacare on my lunch hour.  I can't keep the brace they gave me up on my leg.  I take a few steps and it starts falling down.  It isn't going to do me any good down there.

They only had the one type of brace and since it is worker's comp they sent me over to work med.  I was a little irritated.  I ended up having to go through the whole process again.  X-ray, exam, doctor.  I turned out it was a good thing though.  Instacare wasn't supposed to refer me to the ortho.  They don't have the authority to do that.  Only work med does.  I had them refer me back to Dr. Jevsevar who did my surgery.  I just have to wait for them to call me and find out when my appointment is.

They also gave me a better brace that at least is staying up now.  You should see me trying to get in an out of the car with a stiff leg.  It is hilarious.

Knee Injury

Needless to say when I went to work tonight at Cracker Barrell I had know idea I would end up at the hospital.  Went in as usual, and began my shift.

I had a recook on some fries and went walking into the kitchen about 45 min later.  When I hit the vestibule, one of the other servers was putting an order into the micro.  She thought that she could scoot around behind me as I passed.  She had a foot out at an angle and pivoted and she tripped me.  I went down on the tile floor onto my bad knee.

I just laid there for a couple of minutes and couldn't move.  My knee hurt so bad I was pounding the floor with my fist trying not to cry.  They asked me if I was okay and I said no.  I couldn't move.  I knew immediately I had done something bad to it.  Finally after about 15 minutes of laying across the server aisle (yes, I felt like a spectacle) I thought I could get up.  They got a chair for me and we iced my knee as soon as we could.  I could feel it swelling.

Margie filled out an accident report and called Chris, and Nathan.  No one was answering their phone.  I didn't have mine with me.  One of the servers was due off and she said she would give me a ride home if they didn't come for me.  That is what happened.  When we pulled up at the house they were just coming out the door for me.

Chris took Nathan to get my car while I called the doctor that the worker's comp used.  They had two.  One was a wrong number and one was a fax number.  I called Rob and he said to just go to Instacare.

Chris took me over when he came home.  This was about 7:30.  They took an x-ray and the doctor said that he couldn't see anything broken.  He thought that I might have torn my meniscus, but he wasn't sure.  I was in so much pain he couldn't do much of an exam.  He put me in an immobility brace and refered me to a orthopedist.

We spent over an hour trying to get a urine sample before I could go home.  I found out I can't pee on demand.  Even if I have been drinking all night.  She finally made due with the amount I gave her since they had closed down waiting for me.

Nathan Stylin'

Nathan got his glasses today.  They really change the way he looks.  I'm not used to it.  They look good on him.

Reality

Reality is setting in a little bit more about Chris' job situation.  It is funny.  Chris has wanted out of banking for quite a while.  We just didn't think it was going to happen this way.

Like I said yesterday he got a great severance package.  More than we both thought we would get.  We have a little bit of a cushion to tide us over until something comes up.

It is amazing though.  You would think that the main bread winner loosing his job would cause a bit of a panic.  We both have peace over this.  Heavenly Father has a plan.  We aren't sure what it is, but we know it is going to be okay.  Time for faith excersises I guess.

Chris Laid Off

Chris called me at work this afternoon about 2:00.  He said that I would never guess what happened.  The big boss came down from Logan and came into his office.  Chris said as soon as he walked in he knew what was coming.  He just got laid off.  They laid off 3 other people too.

We are in a bit of shock.  There was no warning at all.  The one blessing is that we got a great severance package.  When he found out what it was the boss said that he was welcome to come in from time to time and work if he wanted. (Yeah right!)  Chris asked him if he needed to finish the day.  He was told it was up to him.  He got a box, packed his stuff and came home.  No since hanging around.

Potato Pancakes

The last two times we have gone to Virginia to see Chris' family his mom has made potato pancakes.  They are very Polish.  Chris said that she used to make them from scratch and they were very labor intensive.  She found a mix that she likes now.  While we were there I picked up a couple of boxes.  We had them for dinner tonight.
Chris and the boys like sweet toppings like syrup and sugar.  I liked them with sour cream.  Here is heritage in a box.  Now I just have to find it here in Utah.

Needing Glasses

Took Nathan in for an eye exam again.  I took him in last year and the doctor said he was fine.  His eyesight has gotten worse and he is driving.

This time the doctor said he did need glasses.  Here we are ordering them.  I asked him if he wanted contacts or glasses and he opted for the glasses.  It didn't take him long at all to pick out the frames.  Because he is under 18 he qualifies for the youth lens program.  His exam, frames and lenses cost me just over a hundred dollars.  I thought it was going to be a lot more.  Now we just need to wait for them to come in.

Drawing Winner

I had just gotten home from work yesterday and I got a phone call from the coordinater of the home arts of the fair.  I won the drawing for the digital camera.  I couldn't believe it.  I never win anything.

I had all ready been out to pick up all my entries and so she said I could come to her house and pick it up instead of going all the way back out.  It is a cute little camera.

I'm going to give it to Chris.  He can't find his and needs a new one.

Washington County Fair

I got ambitious this year and had 5 entries for the fair.  I entered two in the photography section and 3 in the handarts section.  Part of the fun is seeing your ribbons along with everyone else.  I was really excited.  This year I got my first Judge's Choice on one of my photographs of a Black Swallowtail Caterpiller.
The other photograph was of a Monarch.

In the handwork division I had my first quilt, a knitted lace shawl and a queen size crochet afghan.  They all got firsts.
I was a little sad when I found my shawl.  I put a lot of hours into that thing.  If I ever do anything like it again I will take something to display it on so you can see the work.
This is the afghan for my guest room that I have been working on for the last year.  I can't wait to put it on the bed.
