Rugby

Chris and CJ went to the first football game for Dixie High this afternoon. They had a discussion about CJ playing football. CJ said he wanted to go out for football again. Chris told him that they wouldn't put him on the team. He hasn't played at all, and by freshman year most of these boys have played a min of a couple of years. If he had stayed on the team a couple of years ago it wouldn't be a problem.

CJ mentioned that practices were starting for a rugby team. He thought that he might start going out for that. Chris and I are all for it. Hopefully he will enjoy it. They are starting practices now to learn the rules and condition. It is a Spring sport and the games will start in Mar or April. I guess Chris and I need to learn about this new sport.

Cubmaster

While we were gone in Provo they sustained me to a new church calling. I am now the ward Cubmaster. We combine with the 16th ward boys. They are calling a new Cubmaster also. We will share responsibilities every other month for pack meeting. They have it much better organized than they did four years ago when I was in. Back then I did the wolves, bears and the advancement stuff.

Tucanos

After our hike in the canyon we came back to the hotel. All of us were hot and sweaty. The guys went to the pool to cool off. I had to settle for a shower. I forgot my swimsuit.

We just hung out in the room for a couple of hours waiting for dinner time. We had skipped lunch on purpose. We had plans to go to Tucanos. It is a fantastic Brazilian grill. They feed you until you pop though, so you have to be hungry.

Dinner was as good as we expected, and we rolled out of there. It is so hard not to over eat when the food is so good and they are asking if you want more.

We came back to the hotel full and tired. We watched a little tv and decided it was bedtime. We have to go back to real life tomorrow.

Stewart Falls

After the Y we drove up Provo Canyon. Cheryl, my friend at work, had told me about a hike that she did two weeks ago. She said it was an easy hike, about 3.5 miles round trip. It was above Aspen Grove and Sundance. I told the guys about it and they wanted to do it. We missed the trail head and drove up the mountain for a couple of miles. Chris stopped and let me take a picture of the view.

We finally figured we had passed the trailhead and turned around. We stopped and asked for directions, bought water and we were on our way. The trail that we did is called Stewart Falls. It is a 200 foot waterfall that is two tiered. We finally got close enough to see it in the distance. The boys and I in front of the falls. It was beautiful. A perfect day for a hike. Warm, but not hot.
Here is the full view of the falls. Well worth the hike.
CJ and I decided we wanted to do the whole loop and go the back way down. It was really pretty. Chris and Nathan took the front way back so they could pick up the car. The problem was when we came out off of the trail, we didn't know where we were. We ended up in the middle of some canyons. We finally stopped someone on the road. He told us we were right above the resort. Thank goodness for phones. Chris and Nathan finally found us and picked us up.

On the way back down the canyon we had to stop and take a picture of Bridal Veil Falls. They have changed the look of that a lot since I was in school. It looks totally different. They have made a park at the base. Bridal Veil is a double cataract waterfall that drops 607 feet into the Provo River. It is beautiful.

BYU

We promised CJ on the way up last night that we would go to BYU this morning. Chris wanted to get shirts for game day. We parked in the law building lot across from the Wilkinson Center. We walked up through the building. I was amazed at all the changes. It seems like yesterday, but it has been 25 years. I showed the boys where I worked and then we hit the bookstore. CJ was in logo heaven! He finally decided he wanted a pair of shorts instead of a new shirt. He has a shirt at home. They also had all kinds of cool baseball caps, and so we each got a hat too. It will be good for the hike.

Chris was saying that he might try and get tickets for a game and bring the boys up so they can have the full experience. I think that would be a great thing to do.

Provo

Chris decided after a week at home trying to chill out that he just wanted to get out of town. We decided to go up to Provo. I got off a few hours early and as soon as the boys came home we had them pack their backpacks and we got in the car.

On the way up Chris mentioned that Provo had a PF Changs in University Mall. I called and got a reservation.

We arrived in Provo and checked into the motel, dropped our stuff in the room and then over to the restaurant. We got there right on time. All of the food was amazing. All of us wondered why none of our Chinese restaurants in town taste this good.

We came back to the motel and watched tv for a while. We are all bushed and so it is time to turn in.

Chris Home

I went and got Chris about 1:00 from the hospital and took him home. He was going to go back to work tomorrow, but several people have told him to take some time off. I think it scared other people at work as much as it did us. He has decided to take the week off. Glad to have him home.

Chris and the E.R.

About 10:30 this morning I got a call at work from Darin Hallman. He said that Chris was on his way to the ER with a possible heart attack. He didn't want to call me and scare me and Darin suggested that was probably not a good idea and offered to call me. I thanked him and hung up the phone.

The emergency room is right across the street from work. By the time I got over there, parked and walked to the driveway, Nancy, who drove him was just pulling up. He got out of the car and we walked in together.

They immediately took him to a room and started putting all this stuff on him. I was so grateful for an ER this morning and that we were close. They gave him some medication, took an ultrasound and some bloodwork. Then we were playing the waiting game. When we walked in his pain level was a 6 out of 10. Within about an hour it was down to about a 2.

It started about 9 this morning. He went in to work and the computer stuff they worked on all weekend was still not acting like it should, although it was fixed. He started to stress about that. Then he said his chest started hurting. About 10 he started crying and couldn't control his emotions, and the pain was getting worse. He finally told someone and decided he better find out what was going on. He couldn't beleive that he would have a heart attack!

About noon they came in and said that it looked like it wasn't a heart attack. He started beating himself up for not just working through it. I told him that I would rather have him in the ER than fall over dead somewhere. The nurse told him that the only way to tell the difference in stress attack and heart attack is the EKG and you can only do that at the hospital. The doctor told him that he has had 30 year olds in with heart attacks. You just don't know. He also has a pretty bad family history of heart attacks. Better safe than sorry.

They wanted to keep him overnight just to make sure. They were going to run a battery of tests on him through the night. They put him in his room a little before one, and I went back to work for the rest of the day. Okay, I admit that my body was there, but my head wasn't.

I called the boys and told them to be ready to walk out the door at 5:00. I needed to talk to them but we had to go get our fair entries. This was the only time we could get them back. I got them a few minutes after 5. While we headed out to the fair grounds I told them what had happened. We came back in and stopped at Taco Bell for dinner. I took them over to the hospital while I went to knitting. I had promised one of the girls I would teach them how to do entrelac. I only stayed about an hour and then went back over to the hospital.

After dinner Chris posted that he was in the hospital. All of his boys wanted to come see him. The ER nurse was not happy with me. It wasn't my fault. She asked if he had called everyone he knew. I said, no, he is young men's president. I got a dirty look everytime someone else came. Again, not my fault. We finally left about 9. Visiting hours were over and I was emotionally wiped. Long day!

Ann's New Job

Ann called this morning with great news. She got a new job! Yea! She has been looking for several months. The one that she currently has just isn't giving her enough hours to live on.

Her new job is POS Mangager of World Market. She will have benefits and vacation time. That makes the job even better. I asked her if it was full time and she said that it is what the call "over 20". All of the managers are on it. She will be in charge of their sales. Pricing, repricing and reciving merchandise I think. The manager that hired her suggested that she might want to bring a cot for the back room in the next couple of months. I guess she is going to get full time hours.

Yea Ann!

Washington County Fair

Chris has been working crazy hours so far this weekend trying to fix a computer problem at the bank. He got away about 11:00 so that we could go to the fair for a couple of hours. We began in the art building to see how Nathan and I did on our entries. Then I went over to the home arts while the guys sat down and waited. They don't care to view them for some reason!

Next it was over to Chris' favorite part, the commercial building. That is where all the vendor's are. For some reason the guys really like this. By this time Chris and the boys were starving. We headed over to the food court. Chris got a little distracted by the bubble machine. I love the joy on his face!

Right before we went into the food court the National Guard was set up. They had a ball gun and game. 4 free shots. Nathan knocked down 3 out of the 4.

CJ got 2 out of four. Practice from scout camp...
We were all in the mood for different things for lunch. Chris and CJ tried a new barbque place, Nathan got pizza and I headed for the homemade tamales. They had several kinds. I was torn between the pork and the green chili/cheese. I finally decided to get both. The pork was good... but the green chili was fantastic. Who says fair food isn't good?? I've got to learn how to make tamales one day.

County Fair Entries

Nathan and I both entered the county fair this year in the art catagory. Nathan had 3 entries. This is a tape sculpture of a guitar that got 2nd place.
Wolf etching that got second.
and a first on "Snake Boy" drawing. Great showing for the first time. I entered two of my photography pieces in the amature division. This one is Snow Canyon before a storm.
This one is a California Sister butterfly on goldenrod.

Gas Leak

Today has been one of those days that was a mixed blessing. For the last week or so I have been smelling gas whenever I drove my car. It is summer, and I drive with my window down a lot. Have'nt thought to much about it. I filled up Saturday and when I drove home after work yesterday I had just over half a tank. That was when I knew something was up. I normally can go on a tank for three weeks.

I took it in to be looked at this morning. Keith, the mechanic, could smell it too, but couldn't see where it was coming from. He decided to put it up on the lift. As soon as the car started going up you could see a steady drip of gas coming from the car. Ahhhh!

I left it with him, to see what he could do while I was at work. He called me about 1:00 and said that the hose that goes into the gas tank was cracked. He had never seen one there. He tried to fix it, but it was just too bad. On my car you can't just replace the hose, it is an assembly. (of course?) $477 dollars later my car is fixed.

He told me when I picked it up that I was really lucky I hadn't blown up. With as bad as the leak was, sparks from an engine, or just the heat in Aug. I will just be grateful!
