My paltry photography skills have not kept me from becoming a photography snob. I love checking light, deciding which aperture will make the best shot, adjusting the shutter speed, and thinking about the limitations of ISO. It makes me feel creative. Point and shoot cameras (or worse - cell phone cameras) take all or most of that control away from me. I chuckle when I see parents standing in the back of a darkened auditorium with a point and shoot trying to get good shots of a school play. "Good luck," I think. "I'm pretty sure you're going to end up with out-of-focus smudges that would be most closely categorized as abstract expressionistic."
When the band tour was scheduled, I thought it would be fun to bring a camera even though I wasn't sure if I would have an opportunity to shoot pictures. When I found out that I would be playing bassoon instead of percussion, meaning one more bag to carry, I opted not to bring the camera. (Because I'm an idiot.)
Our first concert was at Monument Valley High School. Here's a little pointer: if you enjoy photography and you're going to Monument Valley, bring a camera.
So I found myself in one of the most scenic places on earth with a cell phone camera. . . because I'm an idiot.
Here are my best efforts with the cell phone and some post processing in Lightroom.
I'm going to call this collection Photos of Regret.
