Now I'm Really Two

Ask any parent of a toddler when the terrible twos begin and s/he will tell you that it's somewhere between 18 months and 22 months. Note that 24 months is never reached. The two-year-old birthday is a mere formality. By that date the widening streak of independence is firmly entrenched.

Mimi has been doing all the fun two-year-old things. She likes to have input on wardrobe options - mostly insisting on wearing a jacket and shoes. She objects to help with utensils insisting on holding the spoon with one hand while eating food with the other hand. She often insists on playing on playground equipment alone even if it means ending bottom-down at the end of the slide.

The building blocks of language are coming along nicely. She even puts some simple sentences together on occasion. She understands most of what we say and complies with some of what we ask. She no longer screams merely to enforce her will - now she sometimes screams just for entertainment.

Most of the time Mimi is very accommodating. We had her to the doctor last week to get checked for strep throat. She was nervous but cooperative through all the tests and when the back-of-the-throat swab brought tears to her eyes, she still wore her brave face. If you can put up with a nursing assistant gagging you, you can put up with Tommy being in your personal bubble (for a little while.)

Happy Birthday Mimi!

Model Airplanes (not mine)

Near our place there is a pretty good grass field and occasionally a family comes to fly some model airplanes. Last Friday I grabbed my camera and asked if I could snap some pictures while they flew. Mostly I wanted some practice tracking a small, fast flying object. Pretty tough.

The sun was setting, so there wasn't quite enough light to keep the shutter speed up and the ISO down, but I'm still pretty happy with the effort.

May the Fourth (Be With You)

I don't know when people started celebrating May the Fourth as an unofficial Star Wars tribute day. I had never heard of it prior to the advent of social media.

If there's an unofficial holiday that really doesn't require much work or effort to embrace, I'm in.

We enjoyed Star Wars Day by . . .

Kind of dressing up

Jar Jar Anna

Anakin Becca

 Darth Thomas

And three Princess Leias

Then we had

Millennium Falcon Sandwhiches

Jabba the Hut fruit salad

And two Tattooine moon cake

And we made it almost 2/3rds of the way through Return of the Jedi
