The view from Arkham

No comments:
Well, some of you may know a new gaming centre has opened up in Northern Ireland.  It is called Arkham Gaming Centre and it is based in the idyllic village of Gleno (or Glenoe, whenever the Stars are right!)

So what is it all about?

Arkham is about providing a safe space for gamers of all ages to come, enjoy the atmosphere, play games, learn new games and teach others.

It is based in what used to be an ice cream factory on the edge of Larne.  This has provided the opportunity for the creation of Arkham with one large room already in use and another, even bigger room being tidied up for more fun.

There are a few staff (all volunteers - including myself) and a few 'inmates' that can not always be there or can not commit to much time but want to help out.  We want to make Arkham work and expand and we are in the middle of organising a number of activities for people of all ages to take part in.

I will try to interview a few of the guys to get their angle on the Arkham vision in the next few weeks.

For me it has opened up opportunities for me to really take part in the hobby i love so much.  And before anyone says it is not all about toy soldiers!  Many of the competencies, skills and abilities we use every day are reflected in boardgames, card games, roleplaying games and tabletop warfare games.  Indeed the challenges found in these games reflect directly back to how we employ our experience and skills within the work environment such as prioritisation, information analysis, change management, decision making, strategic thinking, and tactical implementation.  This is especially applicable to those within all levels of management.

Hmmm, that gives me an idea.............

In the meantime you can follow Arkham's exploits and keep up to date with what is going on on its Facebook site

The Blood Angels are coming......

3 comments:

Just read an email from GW......

Incoming! Blood Angels

This April the Blood Angels will be re-launched with an all-new Codex and range of plastic and metal miniatures. One of the oldest and noblest of all Space Marine Chapters, the Blood Angels have stood fast against the enemies of the Imperium since the Great Crusade and it was their Primarch Sanguinius, who laid down his life to aid the Emperor against Horus in the final hours of the Warmaster’s rebellion. The new Codex explores the background and history of these superhuman warriors like never before, and contains new artwork depicting some of their greatest battles and most powerful champions.

The Blood Angels have always been a powerful close combat army and have been made even deadlier thanks to a range of specialist wargear, the ability to field Assault Squads as Troops choices, and more Dreadnoughts than any other Space Marine Chapter, including a Death Company Dreadnought and the fabled Furioso Dreadnought. The Sons of Sanguinius will be deep striking onto a tabletop near you this April – now’s the time to practice painting red.

Ohhhhh, so tempted.
