We're a family of five. Nathan, Sarah, Jared, Kayla and baby Logan. We live in Molalla, Or. We love our little town. It's still close to both sets of grandparents, but is our own piece of the city (if you can call podunk Molalla the city). We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Check out those cool ice designs! Maybe later if it snows I can get a picture of snowflakes! We'll see.

Here's my newest music video I made with the kids. I did most of it over the Thanksgiving holiday

Thanksgiving
We spent Thanksgiving with my family and I had a great time as usual. Russell and Casey came and Steven were there and they are awsome to hang out with!
I went to my parents' house a day early. My mom got out some of the old toys that she's been saving for Jared to play with. He really liked the Seasme street letter track. He was also really into the cars. We need to get him some more cars!
We also went to the park and went swimming with the extra time we had while people were at work and whatnot.
Then Russell and Casey came and the party got started for real. We also got
Jared loved playing with uncle Steve of course. He loves his uncles!
And she'll be a good mother!
On Thanksgiving day Jared was so excited about having all the people around that he wouldn't take his nap. But then he crashed about the time were going to eat so he had his Thanksgiving dinner later.
Before dinner my parents did the tradional reading of things we're Thankful for from the Thankful box. It was fancy this year because instead of just scraps of paper we got to write on paper leaves that ny nom cut out. Much prettier. There were a lot of good things in the box that people are thankful for.
On Friday morning my mom and Casey and Steven's girlfriend went out early (4am) for some black Friday shopping. I met up with them at 6am. Since I had the kids I would just slow them down, so I didn't go to the big stores likr Walmart and Target. They were nice enough to pick up some good deals for me at those locations though. Then we all went to breakfast and a fantastic bagel place. Here's the Black Friday loot when it was all over!
Later on Friday we went bowling. They even had bowling shoes Jared's size, which is adorble. He did fairly well too. Steven and Casey won the bowling game, which is no surprise and my mom came in last by 2o points. That's no surprise either.
It was a fun holiday. And look, Kayla even starting sitting up on her own!

6:30pm and Kayla's already in bed fast asleep. I tried to keep her up but apparently the holiday wore her out. More about Thanksgiving later.
I was trying to teach Jared about eskimo kisses tonight. I said eskimo kiss and rubbed my nose against his. To which he replied "Basketball kiss!"

Cake topper
Jared broke our wedding cake topper this week. It happened on Friday the 13th too. Unlucky day! He was playing with the window blind and swing it far enough that it knocked the cake topper off the shelf it was on the wall.
I wasn't particularly upset for 1) it's about the 4th time it's been broken (although unfixable this time and 2) it's a replica of the columbia river temple where we got married, which is a bit on the obcure side so it's not like we could pass it onto our kids anyway because they most likely wont be getting married there.
But it's still a little sad. On the cute side though Jared did say "I'm sorry" right after he did it

Halloween
Well, I think it's about time I posted about Halloween. I themed our costumes as an ocean thing so that Nathan could be an admiral (his nick-name from church). They turned out great. My favorite reaction was one of the really serious guys at church who said he's been trying to get people to treat Nathan with more respect by calling him "president" rather than "admiral" and that his costume wasn't helping!
Anyhow, here's the admiral and his wife:
A pirate:
And a mermaid:
I had a great time this Halloween! It was a lot more fun now that Jared's a little older and understood what was going on. He got the whole saying-trick-or-treat-gets-me-candy, thing right away!

Jaredism
We were reading the book "brown bear, brown bear" on the blue horse page:
Mommy: "Blue horse, blue horse, what do you see?"
Jared: "Blue horse tinky!"
Mommy: "The blue horse is stinky?"
Jared: "he ate the poop!"

End of summer update
Well, the summer is ending and I'm excited to see the changing leaves on the trees and for upcoming holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving. But I will miss the warm weather.Jared absolutely loves being outside, so during the month of September we spent a lot of time at parks or just hanging out in the front yard.
We got some new neighbors last month. She was moving into the house by herself (as a surprise for her husband who works in Alaska and only comes home for short periods of time)
while being 9 months pregnant and having a 2-year-old! Needless to say we helped out a lot. Her little boy is Jared's age so they played together some outside. Mostly they just play with each other's toys and often fight over them because they're both just learning how to share. But it's good experience.
Kayla is doing wonderfully. She got over her colicky stage and is a lot more content now. I also think she's a lot cuter now because her baby acne and cradle cap have cleared up. She's starting to get into a sleeping routine during the day which is nicer. Unfortunately, she tends to have a morning nap, and then an early afternoon nap, while Jared has noon nap, so they don't sleep at the same time anymore. That means no more naps for mommy.
The good news is she's better at sleeping at night than Jared was. And the doctor says that since she's over 12 lbs now she's biologically capable of sleeping 8 hour straight without eating, so if I want to stop feeding her a night she might sleep through the night soon. That'd be nice!
We took Kayla swimming for the first time last week, so that was exciting. There are two really awsome kid-friendly pools in our area! Well, not in town because it's too small for that, but within a half an hour drive. Anyway, Kayla was very content in the water. She just laid back and floated contently in her little life jacket most of the time and only cried once we had gotten out of the pool and she was cold.
Jared enjoyed being able to stand up on his own (in the 2 feet and under area) and go down the waterslide. It wa lots of fun!Other things Kayla is doing; she can hold her head up really well while being held and has just started to show interest in toys. So, fun times!

Oh, and I can't forget to post this picture. I took it just for Amy. Of course Nathan and Jared like having all those jelly beans in the house now too.Wednesday, September 9, 2009

Baby blessing
The dress she wore is an heirloom dress. I wore it when I was blessed and my mom did too, so it's over 50 years old. That's pretty cool. It definitely looks old though
After church we had a potluck lunch at the park with both sets of families and some friends. I got a big sub sandwich from Safeway and it was really good! I highly recomend their deli! Anyway, it was a nice little party. Worth missing a nap.

Black is pretty
So, we have this sort of photo-studio in our garage with some extra lighting and a big while background for taking pictures. But I also bought this big black cloth for extra backgrounds and I absolutely love how it makes pictures look. Now I wish we'd bought a big black background instead of while. Oh well, one of these days we'll probably get that too...

Spitup
Kayla spit up a whole bunch yesterday while we were in the car. It was not quite as much as the most spitup I've ever seen from Jared. But it definitely rivaled that incident. Too bad I didn't get a picture. I would have (I did have the camera with me..) except I had already started cleaning it up before I realized how much was actually there. Otherwise I would have taken a picture before cleaning it up. Plus it was in the carseat so all the crevices hid a bunch of it. I'm hoping that will explain why she's been pretty fussy lately. Although she seems to be the fussiest around 5pm, and I remember Jared doing that too. So unfortunately it's probably a normal thing I can't do anything about...

2 week update
Kayla turned 2 weeks on Wednesday. She is still sleeping most of the the time, but waking up to eat every two hours. However, she is having a lot more awake time in the mornings and early evenings. She loves to be held and would prefer to be held all day in the cradle position, although she likes being upright against the chest. I have been putting her in a sling more at home, and she'll sleep contentedly there while I do other things.
Jared has been much better with the new baby than I thought. He loves to stroke her head and wants to hold her a lot. He also gives her kisses on comand, so that's cute. Overall I think he's excited about having a baby around. I worried that he's have a hard time with the fact that I have to spend a lot of time nursing, but he's been pretty tolerate of that. He even says "Kay have milk?" sometimes. Also, he will play on his own pretty well, especially with books and puzzles, and of course balls.
Sometimes we have probelms when they both and to cuddle at the same time, but I try to hold them at the same time. And it sort of works.
We don't have any nick names for Kayla. Mostly I call her "miss Kayla," so that's kind of boring. She has grey-blue eyes, just like Jared. That makes me happy because I love blue eyes. She weighed 9lbs 7oz at her two-week doctor appointment, which is 5 oz above her birth weight. She's also a big grunter. Especially when she's waking up, but still kind of asleep. She'll grunt a lot. It's cute, but kind of annoying at 5am.

We don't have much of a routine yet, but she does seem to get really tired in the afternoon. That works out perfectly because Jared usually naps around noon, so they'll often be asleep at the same time so I can get a daily nap too. We'll see if that keeps up. I'd love that. Especially since I'm getting up 3-4 times a night now.Wednesday, August 5, 2009
Cutsy girly stuff
Kayla is a week old now. We're all home and settled and Nathan's back at work. Time for regular life again. I've very much enjoyed the last almost week at home. My parents watched Jared for the weekend after Kayla was born, so it was just the three of us for a while. But we missed him of course. And actually he's been a lot better about having a baby around that I thought he would. But I'll write about that more later.
Physically I've recovered well. I was pretty sore the first couple days home, but the worst part was the cramps I'd get everytime Kayla nursed. She's a big eater so I was having cramps all day! But that's over now.
I'm really enjoying the meals we've been getting delivered every night from people from church and MOMS club. We have so many left overs now that I wont have to cook lunch or dinner for probably another week!
Kayla's doing beautifully. She eats well and sleeps well and has all the right amount of wet diapers ect. She's starting to stay awake a little bit more during the day and wakes up just about every 2 hours at night. I don't think we could have a more normal/perfect baby :)
