Musical Talents.....

I caught this girl singing Taylor Swift today......she sang, "kiss me on the sidewalk, take away the pain..." from 'Sparks Fly'.

Oh boy!

Somebody get this girl some music lessons cause she clearly is musically inclined.

Speaking of music....
this boy will NOT stay still for a diaper change unless you sing the 'doggy' song to him. I guess he likes music too.

Seriously, at the doctor's office, he screamed more for being laid on his back than he did for his shot.

The Doggy Song
(my mom sang it to my kids-so we picked up on it)

"Once I had little dog, he used to sit and beg,
one day he tumbled down the stairs and broke his little leg,
oh, doggy, I will nurse you and try to make you well,
and you will wear a collar with a pretty silver bell."

Sing it to your babies, it will make them sleep. It will distract them from fussing at 3 am. It will hold them still long enough to wipe their bums before they stick their hand in poo.
You're welcome.

Rocket Pencil

I told Nathan to work on his homework......and he played with his pencil like a rocket for 20 minutes! Complete with sound and visual effects!
I love this kid. Low maintenance.
He is the best individual player ever....what more could a mother wish for?

Now, if only he would get his homework done!

V-day on the fly......

Some mom's I know put pictures up of the cute decorations and fun they were going to do with their kids on Valentines morning.....I was feeling guilty cause I hadn't planned anything. So I had to come up with something quick. The gel 'I heart you' was going to go on the mirror after I cleaned the bathroom to surprise Robert in the morning, but I never cleaned them! So I had to improvise. They ended up on the fridge. Incidentally, the kids love them and have been calling them jello, like jigglers. :)
Heart shaped toast for breakfast......they'll never know I didn't think of it until that morning!

Food is so much more fun to eat when it's a novelty!

As it happens on every holiday, I have nothing planned and then start thinking of great ideas I would do, so I have to run out and buy a bunch of stuff, and then, we don't even have time to do it!
For, V-day I imagined a clean house (not by my hand!), activities with the kids (sugar cookies, jello jigglers, and rice krispy kisses),a nice kid free homemade dinner (knock off Olive Garden soup, and lionhouse rolls), mini chocolate bundt cakes with cream cheese icing, and a beautiful V-Day decorated table. A tall order, as you can see. I went and bought everything I needed to make a magical day and rice krispies was as far as it got!
Oh well, kids were happy. Perhaps, I will do my grand Valentines later this week......right after I get more sausage from the store cause Robert cooked and fed the one I needed for the soup to the kids.....

at least a messy Valentine's Day has motivated me to clean up the house...

There!
Now, I don't have to do laundry for another month!
P.S. My kids have way too many PJs!
Okay, maybe way to many everything......

Alexander the Great...Ivan the Terrible...Nathan the Realist

(pic from the Kindergarten Teddy Bear Picnic)

I cooked up some sweet potato french fries tonight and tried to convince my kids to eat them. I didn't think it would be a problem, they are french fries after all. Nathan had a tiny taste and declared that he did not like them. In my effort to persuade him I emphasized the fact that they are french fries. "But they're french fries, who doesn't want to eat orange french fries?"
His reply?
"Me."
End of conversation.

That's what I get for asking.

His simple stated realism reminds me of another funny Nathan story that must be blogged for posterity.
Last year at Nathan's annual check up he had a funny conversation with the doctor. Nathan LOVES Star Wars and was wearing his Star Wars shirt to the doctor. I specially picked it out in hopes that he would be brave for the shot he had to get. The doctor noticed his shirt right away and tried to engage him,
"Oh, you like Star Wars?"
"Yeah."
"Which one are you? Are you a Jedi?"
"No."
"Are you a padawan...?"
"No, I'm just a kid who likes Star Wars."

What you don't get was how it sounded. It was the funniest thing ever. He totally punked the doctor. He said it like he thought the doctor was crazy for even suggesting such an incredulous thing.
It.was.awesome.

You don't want to know.....

how long this has been sitting on my counter....

Two days ago, I managed to have two kids napping at the same time. The other one happily playing by himself. He does that....it's the best thing ever to have a kid who entertains himself for 30 minutes or more without needing anything. Soooo, I decided I'd make up some cookie dough quick......cause I wanted to eat some. Not cookies....just the dough. Then, I remembered we didn't have any eggs. We didn't have much of any of the essentials that day, which is why I decided to make cookie dough instead of a sandwich. Wah-wah-waaaaah....I lose! I went grocery shopping that night and bought what I needed (and then some, you know how it is), but sadly, that was the last time I had time. So, on my counter sits the butter and sugar, lonely, waiting for the egg to join them so they can be on their way to greatness...

If this ends up being my last post, you'll know how the dough turned out! If I ever get the chance to actually make it....

Here's what you've missed.......

We pumpkin carved.
Sooo disgusted at putting his hand in the pumpkin!

Daddy delivered on the awesome pumpkin carving skills!
Who do you think picked this one out?

my two sweet boys- I love this costume! It is probably too sentimental for me to part with now.

We can always count on Grandpa to liven things up!

Halloween
(I can't believe Nathan wanted to wear the peacock again! I was thrilled!)

give Nathan some letters and you will find random funny things spelled on your fridge...
P.S. He really loves Transformers!

Laila's birthday....these cupcakes were time consuming but so fun to look at!

Thanksgiving! We had to take an exact picture like this because we have one of Nathan looking the same on his 1st Thanksgiving.

'Robert' got a huge Lego set for his birthday and Nathan has had lots of fun putting it together with him.

the kids loved their Christmas presents....

really loved them!

they looked cute for Christmas...

and Everett was hungry....the food was ready and no one was feeding him....so Laila stepped in to help. Good ol' Laila.

Which brings us to today......today I wore a new shirt that I took the tags off this morning. New shirt, new confidence, feeling good.......until I came home and realized I had a size "L" sticker plastered to my chest. I am going to go stick my head in the sand now.
