Mc as Cinderella

Saturday, December 12, 2015

We enjoyed a fun-filled day with our grand-daughter, McKenna.  Our to-do list: travel the Metro to Orchard Road, view the Christmas decorations, find Cinderella's carriage and have lunch at McDonald's.

Cinderella's carriage is pulled by a unicorn!

Passing the front entrance to the Marriott we discovered this sports car.  They always park the very expensive cars at the entrance; not in a valet parking lot.

Cheese pizza, pink plate, pink fork, Milo (chocolate milk with ice cubes) and Christmas stickers.  Can't get better than that!

The Mall

Friday, December 11, 2015

For additional entertainment we can get to the closest mall after a long and sweaty walk.  Causeway Point has a metro stop, two McDonald's, other fast foods, a hardware store, card shops, book stores, a library, banks, toys, clothes
and -- lots of people.

This is a fun restaurant where you choose your food as it goes by on a conveyor belt.

McKenna's Post

Friday, December 11, 2015

No, McKenna does not have her own blog.  This bright blue post, though, "belongs" to her.  One day during recess she ran into it and saw stars for a few minutes. The emergency room decided that she had a concussion but she recovered in a short time.  Since we had heard the story, we had to come up to the top floor playground to check it out.

Looking down on another playground.
The bright blue awning is one of the guarded entrances to the school where the younger students come and go.

Tinsel Time!

Friday, December 11, 2015

While Kent went to Parker's U.N. Day, Sarah and Carol went to McKenna's Holiday Musical. It was held at 8:45 am in the Elementary Theatre at the Singapore American School where McKenna is a first grader.  All four first grade classes entertained us with narration, singing, cute props, choreography and costuming.  It really put us in the Christmas spirit.  You could tell that the kids had practiced for many hours and they enjoyed performing for parents and grandparents. Our favorite was listening to the kids sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" in English, Chinese and Malay.  Of course there were refreshments back in the classrooms afterwards.

U.N. Day

Friday, December 11, 2016

We sent Kent to Parker's United Nations Day at school.

He had prepared a presentation on Brazil.

and to others, for signatures.

A great place to visit some day.

Of course, there are refreshments afterwards.

Glad someone didn't forget about the American food -- Krispy Kreme donuts, hot dogs and french fries!

Seeing Sentosa

Friday, December 11, 2015

The last time we visited Singapore we did not see Sentosa so we decided to fit it into this trip.  It is a popular island resort, is visited by some 20 million people a year and is 1.9 square miles.  It has a 2 km long sheltered beach, Fort Silo, 2 golf courses, another Merlion, a cable car, a monorail system, a sky tower, butterfly park, gardens, shops, eateries, 14 hotels and a Universal Studios Singapore. Sentosa means peace and tranquility.

We decided to take the Boardwalk which is the pedestrian walkway parallel to the causeway that takes you to the island.

We mainly wanted to spend our time at the aquarium -- where it was nice and cool.  It has 100,000 marine animals, 800 species, and 49 different habitats.  And they all come from the Strait of Karimata, the Java Sea, the Strait of Malacca, the Bay of Bengal, the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea, the Red Sea, the South China Sea, and the open ocean.

Since this is the largest oceanic aquarium in the world -- naturally I can't get it all into the picture.

You can't see this well, but it is a floor of glass so that you can keep an eye on the sharks.

There are fun shops and a variety of restaurants.

a shady pavilion and "Lake of Dreams" which leads you to Universal Studios

another Merlion and a walkway near the hotels

We took the pink tram to another area of the island, closer to the beaches.

A calm protected beach to rest and relax.

We crossed this suspension bridge...

to reach the southernmost point of Continental Asia.

A look back at the bridge we just crossed, the beaches and the resorts.

Boats waiting to come into port and the southernmost point of Continental Asia.

I think there are fish nibbling at my toes!
