Life as a postgraduate is not as easy as it seems. Everyday is a juggle between experimenting, writing or keeping up-to-date with the literature. A slight deviation from the fine balance will disrupt the equilibrium and cause devastating effect. So, since I haven’t been keeping the balance, I am now suffering the effects. Having to read the literature, write a review and doing experiments at the same time. The first draft have been sent out last week and it came back to me a day later with changes to be made of course, but nevertheless it was a good first attempt. Now I just have to make it perfect!
Things haven’t been going well as planned. With me not being eligible for most travel funds and the only one I’d applied for being rejected, it’s a wonder how young talents can be nurtured. Most funds favour the more senior students, ie after being enrolled for more than a year. Well, in most cases, most would already have some sort of data before they begun their postgraduate courses. So it isn’t surprising that I’ve got data to present even when I’m just into my 4th month. Nevertheless, I do respect their decision.
As such, given the lack of monetary funds I do forsee in a worst-case scenario that I wouldn’t be able to attend this particular international conference come October. Of course, there certainly is the FS Trust that I can always count on. This Trust, never fails to help you out in times of need, be it work-related or personal needs. This Trust, although not with unlimited funds, is still able to dig through its reserves to support a student in need. This Trust, doesn’t have any tough eligibility criteria. Most importantly, this Trust, supports my research interest.
This Trust, is the FAMILY SUPPORT TRUST! :)
No, don’t get me wrong. I won’t apply to this trust for the conference. It’s just something funny that came to my mind and I had to blog about it. If need be, I’ll just not attend it.
Alrightey folks, its time for me to head back into the depths of my review.
