rache's in the house again!
hahas, having a rather long day today.. went to sch at 8am for communications tutorial. did our groupings thingy and i'm in the same group as andrew, holly and sophie. if u guys are wondering, yes all of them are kiwis.. anyways, there are very little asians in my comms class.. so yar, sometimes working with kiwis might be a good thing aye. well, we'll see.. but then my mini-role playing group was great.. cos why there was holly, andrew and manu.. unfortunately manu came like super late today and our groups have already been formed.. so she had to join with another tutorial class. yups, two meetings this week.. isnt that efficient or what? one tmw and the other the day after.. as i was saying, after comms tut which ended like one hr early.. our whole class (i think) headed for chem lect.. sophie was lucky she got a seat somewhere near the front.. as for me and holly, we had to sit on the steps.. well, apparently we are not the only ones.. there were so many others and andrew was there too.. the whole walking area at the back was totally packed yet the lecturer didnt care.. either he cant see, or he doesnt bother. (it has to be, the more pple that come to his lecture, the better)..
yeahh den had epidemiology lect, shant comment much on that.. and thereafter had chem tut.. i tell u, tt uncle there nv does his homework, go to tutorial class and ask all the silly questions, questions that are so obvious.. and i mean uncle, he's old and fat and he smokes.. cos there is a very bad odour coming from him.. yeah i sat beside him the last time and good thing today i shifted to the other side of the class. *round of applause, good thinking rache!*
met nad for lunch.. so qiao it's such a small world.. if i had walked the other direction, i wouldnt have met her.. how cool is that aye. here i am now typing this at the sci lib. later, i've got bio lect.. den might go for chem again, cos i didnt copy down anything at the 9am one.. no table no chair.. hahas.. and finally to end the day, physics lect at 6pm. what a nice way to end the day!

ok its official, i'm the new treasurer of the university of otago's singapore club.. hahas.. how cool is that aye.. can include that in my cv.. lol anyways yar..
i did something quite stupid yesterday.. but i shant comment any further here.. not much to update though, went for study group today n later meeting with EXECO for some planning thingy for ASEAN night. haha yar and i found out tt i was like the economic officer rep singapore for the ASEAN night. yeah, where every group has to come up with an item. its on 22nd april at dunno what time lar.. anyway i was like suppose to get like sponsorship from like singapore tourism board and govt or something like tt.. oh ya and sg airlines as well. there were like three other pple from malaysia, thailand and brunei.. (i dunno where are the rest, if i'm not wrong there are more countries in ASEAN rite..)oh manz, i forgot all the SEA history and social studies thingy.. had study group in the morning, study group was fun, well that is if u study with a group of friends that u r comfortable and can be urself with. which is what i have found! yup yup, the study group is better than the first one, at least we got to do more than just the first page of questions and laughed less. no more of such contagious laughter.. muhaha..
had a good catch up time ytd night as well. great talking to so many pple whom i've not heard for a long long time.. might have one again soon aye.. maybe tonight lar.. ne'ways i dont have to wake up early tmw too, i've only got a lecture from 5pm-6pm tmw. cool aye..

I got this frm friendster:

Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot,
who calls you back when you hang up on him,
who will stay awake just to watch you sleep.
Wait for the boy who kisses your forhead,
who wants to show you off to the world when you are in your sweats,
who holds your hand in front of his friends,
who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on.
Wait for the one who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares about you
and how lucky he is to have you.
Wait for the one who turns to his friends and says, "...that's her."

yeah, hmm i found out some extremely shocking and unexpected news. something that i never thought would happen.. anyway yar, long weekend ahead.. and there's singapore lunch on sat.. cool, more singaporeans means more singlish.. muhaha.. yup heard that there are like 11 more.. cool eh.. have a great weekend mates! oh yes, another thing i should stop speaking in sg slang ne'more.. cos i asked one of my kiwi friends and she said sometimes my accent is hard to understand and she will have to listen more attentively to get what i am saying. but sg to sg or sg to malaysians is okay, cos all of us speak in this way. :p

ok maybe i shall just blog once a week. haha since that is what i'm doing now.. ytd had chem lab and sad to say i totally mucked it up. krap larz... forget about it rache!

hmm, its finally the weekends and it seems that time passes very quickly. today is the last day of the weekend.. haiz.. anyways, went to carrington on sat.. haha had so much fun there while doing bio. yar, plus our contagious laughter.. havent had a good laugh since aeons ago.

yeah, den i got home and had a short catch-up time with my friends back in sg. i might do so again today lar, since i dont start till afternoon the next day.

the difference between courtship and dating:

Dating: An engagement to go out socially with another person, often out of romantic interest. Or one's companion on such an outing.

Courtship: seeking the affections of a woman (usually with the hope of marriage)

haha cos someone came up with the topic of like were there any bgr stuff going on between or within classes. i suppose courtship is better than dating. that's becos u see urself in the future and not just the present. And let me see, how did we get to this topic, eh i think cos jamie asked the meaning of our chinese names. which reminds me i think i shld go check it out..

RACHEL is orginated from hebrew meaning little lamb, an ewe, one with purity. Cool aye and erm pple call me Rach for short, haha i just saw Rach means frog. lol.. yar and last time in fairfield, ghim khoon started calling me Raquel.. quite cool lar and it is spanish for rachel. Remember then the whole pb started calling me Raquel.
AS for my chinese name: i've got to check it out. update later...

hey another new resolution this yr.. to be able to get a slang by the end of the year. i think it would be possible though if i keep on socialising with the kiwis.. my new eng grp is much better than the first! cool..
anyway i've got epidemiology tut tmw too, so more kiwis on the way yar..

Yesterday i received the shocking news that a school mate has passed away. though he wasnt in the same class as me frm pri to sec sch, but we sort of went thru sch together.. yeah and he is a fellow fairsian!.. oh manz, i dunno what to say.. i'm still in a state of shock and disbelief.. He is so young, just 19 years old.. Havent even reached half of his lifetime yet, let alone his prime.. I'm sure he has allowed God to work through his life and to bless those around him. To friends, just take it as he has left early to return to paradise. And soon, it would be our turn. This has made me realise how impt life is and how we should treasure those around us. Rest in peace blenheim, may be meet again. Its good to know frm other friends that u died with a smile on ur face and peacefully too. I'm sure that u will be sadly missed by all out there. U have fought the 13-day battle well, my friend! what a brave warrior u are.. not everyone would be able to go through what u have gone through. i personally wouldnt have been able to!

I just hope that at the end of my time i can look back and say to myself: well done, my good and faithful servant.

haha i crashed chem today at 9am.. might not be able to crash it anymore, cos there is far too many people liaoz.. but dont really think he cares, so long as u are not blocking the emergency exit can already.. chem lect is always fun and interesting.. the lecturer always make it interesting, by his stupid clips..

anyways, just went to see the eng dept and so sad i cannot go for another tutorial cos inconvenience or rushing is not a good reason.. hmm was talking to lianne and good thing i'm not the only asian in my communication tutorial. hahas yup but all the asians in my class have already been in nz for a long long time..

ok larz, shall blog another time.. nothing much to say too..

Wednesday, March 09, 2005

krap! went to sch supposedly for eng124 tutorial, but the tutor didnt turn up after waiting for half an hr.. so the lecturer came in shortly after and told us to write down our names and will mark us as present and we could leave.. yay.. but the sad thing is that next week onwards, communications tutorial will have to be longer to make up for the 1st one. anyways, i thot of asking for a change for my eng tutorial.. cos like today, i find it very rushing to attend a lecture directly after a lab. might ask for a change to the eng tut in the morning so that i can attend the earlier lecture. yup will try tmw..

chem lab today wasnt too bad. hahas, we had fire drill too.. i dont know if there was a real fire, but it doesnt sound like it was real.. but anyways the entire building was evacuated.. i think it was to teach us where the emergency exits were and where to assemble. yup when we went down to assemble, met alvin.. didnt know that he was in the same lab session as me.. but different lab larz, cos my surname is Cheong and his was Seng.. so yar he was in lab D and i was in lab A.. when i first went to the lab, i didnt know anyone.. den i recognise a familiar face, a guy from my english tutorial.. cool and his seat was beside mine permanently (we are assigned our own lockers and seats) so we did the lab together, cos this week's one was group work.. yeah so it aint that bad...

after that went to attend chem lecture again.. yeah for the second time, just for fun larz.. this is my actual lecture but i crashed the first one at 9am since i did not have eng tutorial.. rushing for a lecture is very tiring and u dont get the best seats.. thats the worst part of it.. but the lect was fun.. the lecturer is fun larz.. every lecture will definitely have a video clip or a song to hear, or on good days he would perform an experiment in the lecture.

then after lect was finished, i was walking down and met alvin.. since my dad didnt come to pick me up, i walked back with alvin till the gardens.. it was on the way back, but he stays like so much further away, at the other end of north-east valley, but it was a flat road all the way. me, staying quite near but was on the hill.. i didnt want to wait for the bus so i walked home.. and here i am now, typing this thingy after having dinner..

Tuesday, March 08, 2005

ok i'm back at home after bio prac, bio lect and eng tutorial.. WHY? cos i so conveniently forgot to bring my chem lect notes. how am i suppose to go for a lecture without my notes rite?

had bio prac today.. aint too bad larz.. looking at specimens using the microscope. first was with ur own cheek cells, me and meiting were like scraping our poor cheeks for so long can i cant seem to get any cells out. in my opinion, it was mainly just saliva larz.. disgusting! anyway yar asked this lab person how it was suppose to look like and yay actually what i had gotton earlier on, was indeed cheek cells. oh wells, my poor cheek.. yeah, we looked at the grey matter from the spinal cord, fungi frm bread mould (i think), euglena and frm some plant. wasnt too bad and we were taking things slowly..

after that, i crashed the 11am bio lect.. whoa! i wouldnt crash the 11am lect ever again.. it was like full lar and that Bishop guy said if there were people sitting on the aisle, they will have to mark attendence. they wanted to do it today, cos they got so many people down and were already holding the attendence sheet, getting ready to go one by one.. phew.. lucky sia.. its so paiseh if u have to walk out of the lecture theatre with 550 people looking at u. ok minus me, its 549 pairs of eyes.

eng tutorial was super boring! and believe me, if i says its boring.. it really is.. we did some grammer stuff.. please, am already 18yrs old and i still dont know what is the difference between a noun, verb, adverb, adjective, negative article, prepositions, pronoun, etc.. how would i rmbr? i dont even tink we learnt such things before larz.. maybe in pri sch.. but still, i mean why do we need to go thru an entire passage word by word, trying to categorise every word according to the above. i forsee that eng tutorials will be extremely boring.. haha and everyone there even the asians all have the typical kiwi slang.. i must try to get one too..

kayz, i better get going.. have to go down for chem lecture..

yup i'm back.. guess what? i didnt notice that the guy sitting beside me for bio is a singaporean, until he took out his SAF organiser.. such a coincidence eh.. yeah, i think its easy to start a conversation with pple of ur hometown.. somehow there is something to talk about. but with kiwis, its kinda tough too.. i mean i dont know how.. anyway its good to know another singaporean in otago. dats like the 2nd new one i know this yr.. cool.. and the list shall go on and on and on..

Sunday, March 06, 2005

I'm just so glad that blenheim's condition is improving. While i was reading lionel's blog, was so touched to know that so many fairsians and other people are fighting alongside him. miracles will happen when u believe! the power of prayer, amen!

yup anyways, tmw is the start of another cycle of school..
haiz, this week will be much busier than the last. cos eng tutorials are starting this week and i'm in the first cycle of chem lab.. so suay! and there is exit tests for chemistry.. but there isnt any of such sort for bio and physics. oh well, what can i say.. its the dreaded chemistry.

yeah, seems like everyone did well for A's.. dats great! maybe i should isolate myself from the rest of the world and be on my own too. hmm i shld try that aye.. i'm not trying to be mean or something, but maybe i should try it out too and see how it goes. was thinking of forming a study group too.. aiyah, shall see how it goes ne'way. :P

Friday, March 04, 2005

a round of applause, i got through the first week of school in one piece. *grinz
oh well, today is the release of A's.. yeah to all my friends out there: if u have done well, take it as a bonus and a big congrats and well done to u, praise the lord! and if u have not done well, no worries there would definitely be another road out, dont give up and u will get there eventually.

anyways, i woke up ultra early today. (that is earlier than usual) thankfully got a ride to sch.. yeah had bio lec in the morning.. the earliest lecture bio lecture.. and i can like sort of see that in the mornings, the lecturer is very alert and so has more gusto when teaching.. yar, but like in the evening lecture, its like he just wants to finish and get it over and done with. i mean i dont blame them lar, cos they are humans too, just that with much more brains than me..

then after bio was my first epidemiology tutorial.. haha was great! got to know so many more angmohs and yar of course asians too. let's see, i got to know alice, shiva, brighton, seith and cody. seith wants to do med then he said he will apply for like 20 unis besides the otago one if he cant get into med sch here.. funny sia.. and cody wants to do physio after hsfy.. seith and cody were like super krappy.. oh yes, did i mention i think cody is kinda cute too. besides the point, the tutorial was basically group discussion but i think everyone was like talking on their own and the tchr was so krap too. to sum up, absolutely wonderful! just too bad that epidemiology tutorials are like once every fortnight. sigh..

i went to the sci lib after lunch and lo and behold.. alvin, felicia and fiona were there.. so i went to join them.. oh manz, we were like laughing so hard until our laughter could fill the entire lib. its a good thing the librarian didnt ask us to leave the lib.. totally krap manz.. and its not really telling jokes or what, it was just doing some stupid things that trigger off contagious laughters. whoa, good thing i had to go for a lec soon lar, if not i would die laughing.. haha and fel had to change sit cos she didnt want to get disturbed.. pls note, this is a very good and disciplined way of studying.. good on u, fel!

hmm then had epi lecture and it was as usual boring.. everyone was like falling asleep lar.. practically everyone.. i could see heads bobbling up and down.. lol, can blame it on us, cos the lecturer himself is boring. haha oh i crashed chem lec after epi.. i didnt want to wait till 5pm for chem.. thankfully there were still a couple of seats around the lecture theatre. can u imagine if the row-police came and took attendence.. will be so paiseh and malu-ating to stand up and walk out lar..

yeah, after chem lect i met sharon, this girl i just got to know today, and walked home with her.. cos her hall is very near to my house.. so ya and went to her room and look see look see. its really very nice staying in a hostel.. come to tink of it, from young i told myself that i would like to stay in a hostel when i get to uni. but yeah looks like now, it aint possible. cos i'm in nz.. haha ya, i'll see if i can make it for the student exchange programme a not first. aiming for that aye..

yup yup, that's the end of a very fulfilling day to mark the start of the long-awaited weekends. so long, i shall enjoy my weekends to the best of my ability..

Wednesday, March 02, 2005

Okies, today i woke up at 8am and headed down to the uni to pass ziwei his stuff and later met up with another to get my chem stuff. I've got a good deal for it manz..

To mich dearie: i'm so sorry, our lunch meet really slipped my mind. another time kk, i'm very sorry. hope u had a great lunch!

Den at around 11 plus, i received a call frm mich, that's when i remembered about our lunch date.. argh.. my memory is failing me.. I think i was too happy that i start school at 5pm and finish at 6pm today lar.. that's why i totally forgot about our date. Anyway, i will make it up to u babe! I promise, another day ya..

Yeah, i had chemistry lecture from 5-6pm today.. thats the only lecture i have larz.. jealous anyone? besides the point. i must say that the chemistry lecture is really good, and now to me, chemistry is now a much more likeable subject. I'm not saying that R. Tapper isnt good or what, he is good but he gives loads of stuff to do and his lectures never end on time. Other than that, he is fun and his lectures are fun too. Haha can rmbr he would like to crack jokes in the middle of tutorials and so experiments in front of the lecture group. Actually, uni life isnt that great either. U are expected to be responsible for your own learning and whether or not u study or u learn from ur lectures is your own problem.

Unlike secondary sch, college or foundation year where there is a teacher u know u can turn to.. I'm quite satisfied with the hand-holding and the spoon-feeding way of learning.. i really dont mind having that for the rest of my uni life.. BUT get real! this aint gonna happen.

Oh yes, the lectures here are really boring except for chem and epidemiology. Cos epidemiology is something very new and thus the interest in that subject. The biology, physics and eng lectures are really boring. i can vouch that Stewart Mcconnell, Stan Turner and Ray Snowden are so much better at teaching as compared to those people now. Try asking other foundation people, they might tell you the same too. Seriously.. I mean how much can u learn with just one small booklet. I'm certain that u are expected to know much more than that larz.

Yesterday's bio lab was okay. Didnt come early, so i couldnt sit with meiting and nien.. hahas but anyways its alright lar.. i think we would have like assigned seats soon, well but i dont suppose it would be by next week. i really dunno!

oh! the stupid eng course reader is out of stock again! i've been going to look for it for the past three days and all three days its out of stock! krap.. i shldnt go in the afternoon lar, earlier might be good. i shall try tmw or fri.. arh, or next week also can lar so long as i get it before next week's lect or izzit tutorial.
