London/Paris afterthoughts

I've been asked to reflect on the 5 'highs' and 5 'lows' of my trip but i have been procrastinating!

I secretly feel this is because there were limited occasions that I felt really thrilled/touched/excited and on the downside, angry/disappointed.
But then i figured it could be because there were too many of them!

Highs
1. Eiffel Tower
The view was spectacular despite the gloomy weather and it's not just because the lady at the sales office mistook me to be a 'youth'. Many people said it's overrated but not to me.

2. Louvre Museum
Finally. I've been dying to visit this place and the medallions along the Rose Line made famous by "The DaVinci Code", and I did. And even though i only found ONE medallion, it was good.

3. Wicked
I could identify with the themes of friendship and following your heart. I love the songs and music and Louise Dearman (Glinda).
In fact, I loved "Defy Gravity" so much I bought the T-shirt with those wordings.

4. Meeting my friends in London
It's a great opportunity to catch up with TY, KT and getting to know ZR better. A great insight to how the life of a Singaporean in London is like, reliving communal living for a while and experiencing the 'real' independent lifestyle. Hostel living in Uni is no kick!

and most importantly of all, a new discovery of the heightened level of independence

5. Making it to London alone
"And I know I can do it because I went to London on my own"

There is only one low. Le Mis made me feel so miserable. But it's ok. I caught the musical and that's more important than anything else. Perhaps other than learning yet once more that I ought to be more firm when the occasion calls for it.

Flat viewing

Call it occupational hazard. Call it common sense.

I absolutely do not subscribe to the idea of cash over valuation.

What rubbish?!!!! The valuation is how much the thing is worth. Why on earth do ppl expect more and WHY-oh-WHY are ppl willing to pay the extra?

Yes I hear you...Supply meets demand..but STILL!

2010 resolutions

It's the tenth day of the new year and I've yet to formally pen down my resolutions for the new year! But, better late than never; here goes:

1) Stay fit and healthy
I managed to shed a good 4 kg in 2008 but somehow it's all come back in 2009. I hope with the new gym membership at such a convenient location I can get back in shape, weight and most importantly, size!
Update: So far I've been going to the gym once a week!

2) Improve on my Japanese
2009 has been a slack year in terms of learning of the language. 2010 is a year dedicated to JLPT 2! 一緒に頑張ろう!
Update: JLPT 2 is scary!!!!! Only can work harder!

3) With new job comes new opportunities
Already I could see the challenges ahead in my pursuit of a new career but I'm glad the experience I have greatly assists in adjusting to the environment and focusing on the more important stuff. I pray that I will remain immune to office politics and be happy and gainfully engaged in my work.
Update: Adapting ok! But I must continue to work hard!!

4) Spend more time with my friends and family
These are important people to me whom I've more or less neglected in the past. No more excuses from now on! Hee!
Update: Family definitely sees more of me! Haven't had so much dinners with them ever since I started working!

5) Read
More time to read! Yippee!!
Update: Scary novels are bad choices! I shall stick to things that don't make me afraid to sleep at night..

6) Do one or more of the following
a) Fly kite at Marina Barrage Update: Done 17 Jan 10
b) Visit London Update: Done May 10
c) Wakeboard
d) Nite cycling
e) Spa getaway to Batam/Bintan/Phuket/etc Update: Done Dec 17 10

He who

1) applies double standards - does certain things to others but curses anyone who does that same thing to him
2) is selfish - expects from others but never contemplates reciprocating
3) lies and twists facts just so he appears in a favorable light
4) is always passive and waits for the whole world to plan everything for him
5) behaves like he is the centre of the universe and all people must serve him
6) believes he is always right and insists he is always right
7) says 'this is just how I am; do not try to change me' when he errs instead of apologizing
8) talks as if everyone is a criminal under his interrogation
9) does not have a mind of his own and tells you to ask HM for every single thing
10) places you way below on his priority list

does not deserve any blog post.

If not for the sake of a reminder to myself.
