Inauguration 2009

I will in this blog try my best to tell the story of the trip to the Inauguration in 2009. It all started with a news story, that mentioned tickets would be hard to get this year and if you wanted them to email your Senator. I fired off two emails and thought nothing more of it. A few weeks later I received an email in my junk folder from the office of Senator Bennett. I read it fully expecting to be denied, to my surprise, he let me know that I could pick up two tickets from his office on Monday the 19th of Jan. In person with ID. I was amazed and thrilled, I think that he remembered me serving him breakfast at The Mansion House Dining Room in Ogden, Utah circa 1992. That must be why he sent me the tickets I'm sure.

Ahh yes, the METRO. It was amazing, took us right into town every time, it was easy to figure out and a quick ride from where we stayed in Falls Church, VA.

Okay, so, I am really not sure what I am doing with my hands here, my excuse is I was very cold and my body was in a perpetual state of numbness, so if I look really weird, we will blame it on that. This was our first day in DC. We came out of the METRO station and right into the park. All the beauty, history, excitement, and fun hits you at once as everything you see comes into focus, the Washington Monument is so amazing, but more on that later. Brandon spotted CNN and had to run over to be on TV. We were, I think. That pretty much makes us stars. You know the idiots that jump up and down behind the anchors that are trying to do their job? Well, I can add that to my resume. Hey I was on CNN.

Our first stop was the Smithsonian American History Museum. Absolutely unbelievable. I took a lot of these pics of myself, it just seemed an efficient use of my 37" arms. Enjoy...

Here is a piece of the World Trade Center and the first time on this trip I would get a little choked up. It was amazing to see, the whole event played out in my head again and it was still terrible.

This was part of the Lincoln exhibit. It was really neat, there was Lincoln himself, giving a very long speech about something. Then his top hat, and the hanging hoods for the conspirators that plotted his assassination. One was a woman! I did not know that.

More to come...
