"When Hearts Take Flight" (watercolor on paper, 7" x 10"). This little piece began as a series of wet-into-wet washes. After the washes dried, I looked for possible shapes or hints in the direction that I might want to take. That's when I saw the dove. I added shadows and forced shapes to come forward (hearts and ribbons) but left the dove basically the same soft shape. The color scheme is warm (oranges and reds) with blue accepts. "When Hearts Take Flight" is available for purchase on my website (under "Watercolor Weekly).

Breakfast with Grandma
Blueberries may not seem like an obvious answer to "family stuff", but read my blog http://lindahensley.blogspot.com/ to see the connection. Blueberry waffles and Grandma make for great memories :)
This is my first posting with Watercolor Wednesday. I've loved looking at everyone's work!

Rearing my head! Book images
Okay so they are not for the prompts, but Linda asked to see some. There are more on the pub's web site here.
This first one took me forever with all the little nitpicky details and characters. The second one I am just in love with all the expressive hand motions. I think I am finally getting the hang of this! LOL
Sadly, my schedule for April has me on the road for more than half the month, so I don't know how often I'll be able to post more art, but I'll pop in whenever I have internet access to see how everyone is doing.
Happy Spring y'all!

Back to weekly prompts?
It seems to me that trying to work on portfolio pieces here, while being a rather ambitious undertaking, has been a dismal failure for most of the membership.
How about a show of hands to go back to weekly prompts and a fun place to blow off some creative steam? We can use the prompts to work on portfolio pieces if we want/need them.
All in favor?

The Beginnings of Bear.
Hi Everyone, this is another coincindence for me as I happen to have just started illustrating a story my friend has written. I've never done this before so I'm treating it a bit like a college assignment and hopefully will end up with artwork suitable to send to publishers! Here's a page of studies I made of one of the main characters. He's called 'Bear.'

To Honor Ms. Potter
They had all decided that they would host a wonderful Tea Party in honor of the woman who gave them human like qualities.
"Here's to our heroine Beatrix Potter. She changed how the humans viewed us and gave us dignity and clothing."

In honor of Ms. Potter
I did this painting back in February. Since I went to the library and took out all the Potter books they had to work on my mousie, I thought it would be a good tribute piece. In the spring I was contacted by a counted cross stitch pattern maker to license the image as a a counted cross stitch. I must say that was a huge thrill. The pattern is up here.
The site also licensed several other pieces, mostly flowers, which have not been made into patterns yet.

In the kingdom one afternoon
Sorry I've been MIA. My plate suddenly got fuller than I expected. I still want to "play catch up" for the couple of weeks I missed.
I just sort of scribbled until this lovely lady showed up on the paper. What do you think?

Oops!
Big, the largest of the Gruff brothers, didn't know his own strength. He just wanted to play.
The more I worked on this acrylic painting the less I liked it. Finally I just told myself to stop and live with it. It was a good exercise. It didn't quite turn out the way I saw it in my head, but there you go. I can't wait for the next prompt.

Watercolor Wednesday "Billy Goats Gruffs"
Mia Loopner did not take to kindly to the Woodland brothers making her the grumpy old troll in their backyard production of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."

Blue Berry
I really didn't have much time this week to do a full painting, so here's a quick sketch. I tried out a new color of blue. I think it's a keeper!
