Growing pains

Is it a bane or boon? To have parents who are so pragmatic, they totally disregard the word "interest", or rather the lack of. Your choice of study doesnt depend on where your interests lie, its more about which has more perceived practical/monetary benefits in the future.

Is it a blessing or curse? To have parents who believe in your ability to do well at anything which you put in 120% of hard work and effort into, rather than excelling at something mainly because you like what you do.

Is it wise or stupid? To have to suppress my anguish and frustration all the time these days.

Is it a skill or not? To be able to bite my lip and hold my tears back forcefully.

Is it just me or not? To want to be idealistic, look at everything through rose tinted glasses, stay comfortable in my bubble and ignore the troubles of the life. I hate to think of this any longer.

A 20 Year Old Life Crisis

I feel like Im in a Final Destination movie right now.

Its as if I cheated everyone, especially myself, that I could do and would do Acct, but now that Ive gotten clear evidence that I really cant do Acct competently, no matter how much effort I put in, and then I get stalked by a string of ugly letter grades, refusing to stop until the worse ones appeared. Grades horrifying enough to make me change my mind. Ring a bell, no?

Its a parallel to the surviving characters who tried to cheat Death and eventually Death stalked them cruelly until their fates ended up in their demise. Just like how the characters who were destined to die, were unable to cheat Death, I cannot continue cheating everyone anymore, especially myself.

I cant bring myself to overlook the fact that I have been under-performing for the past 1.5 years. It's been 3 long torturous semesters & I simply cannot use the "Im a dumbass freshie trying to get used to the system" excuse anymore. Is it my fault? I really dont know. I'll take the blame if thats gonna make this decision easier.

Sigh... I'm caught in a whirlwind of emotions. Mainly anguish. Fear. Some misery. A sense of loss? Apprehension? Helplessness. Feeling very discouraged and hopeless. Guilt.

Welcome me with open arms now, Social Science.

Life's good.

Chapter ONE
30 Nov 2007 (Friday night)- Somewhere in tanjong Pagar,
searching for the elusive CLUB STREET.
Joe has been raving about the to-die-for Happy Hour Promos,
at this particular IndonChine outlet.
It was good alright. :)
Was too high to take pictures there.

Chapter TWO
1st Dec 2007 (Saturday night)- Wala Wala's.
Catching Shirlyn & The UnXpected.
It's been too much alcohol for me.

The boys getting high & camera ready during closing-time.

Chapter THREE
3 Dec 2007 (Monday evening)- 6pm at East Coast Park.
Cycling around, with SALLY.
(Yes, the rumours are true.
She only appear when the sun goes down!)
Anyway, we enjoyed the cool wind brushing our faces
& the warm evening sun on our skin.
On top of that, we took many many many postcard worthy pictures.

Sigh.

Chapter FOUR
Dusk falls upon the ulu ulu parts of ECP.
The street lamps seem to cast an eerie glow on the walkways.

This is like THE perfect filming site for Singapore's version of the Blair Witch Project.

Chapter FIVE
8pm at some HK cafe at Marina Cove area- Its Food Pornography time!
The above is Sally's triple baked rice.
(Baked rice never photograph well, right? Haha.)
Its got chicken chop, pork chop & seafood in it.
Too many squids though.

A coyingly sweet Iceblended.
Some red bean thing which tasted like potong icecream blended with ice,
spruced up with vanilla icecream & more gooey red bean topping.
Was good enough to distract us from our (growl) hunger.

My GORGEOUS BENTO SET.
It's got EVERYTHING. sotong ball, curry, stewed tofu & egg & pudding etc!
It's extremely value for money!

Chapter SIX
We had a post dinner walk around the area.
The kids were screaming on the extremely un-exciting Viking Ship.
Even Uncle Ringo will do much better.

This place has been nicely touched up.
The fountain doesnt look slimy & rotten anymore.

Even the carpark looks atas now.

In Limbo

Its almost Week 14 now. Exams are looming, yet again. I had a lovely FTB gathering on friday night at clarke quay. I'm too lazy to blog about the events. Refer to FACEBOOK for the relevant pictures at the moment. I might try to will myself into putting up a belated entry. I've missed out Charlotte's Birthday Blog entry too. Haha. Suddenly, this is like a Birthday Dedication website. Well, at least birthdays, like weddings & funerals, are one of the best excuses for mass meet-ups to make small talk & catch up. One good thing that comes out of having to blow out those candles!

December looks like a pretty rosy sight. Theres the mandatory post-exams party, Lawry's with Char, possibly Zoukout, Batam Cable Ski day, Family trip to Taiwan, an Xmas party in the pipeline. Plus lots of other miscellanous events like Soc Sci retreat? Hockey Chalet? Random 11pm supper calls from Dixi & co? Visiting far-flung places in the ulu corners of Singapore, in search of the best bargains, best food & best unusual experiences.

Friends become slightly more free to hang out, time becomes more fluid, but cash flow trickles. Haha. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to taking random spins in friends' cars. As well as having spontaneous trips like picnicking in Botanic Gardens, exploring Chek Jawa/HSBC Treetop walk etc etc.

I'm so sure December will fly past without anyone noticing. Someone, please remind me to wish for supernatural time-controlling powers on my next birthday. At least, I have a Bangkok trip right on 1st January to chase away the awful Pre-School Blues. While everyone is getting wasted or hung over at their crazy NYE parties, I'll be at the airport at 5am on 1Jan2008. How cool is that?

On yeah, on the topic of having a peter pan fanstasy, I'd like to remark that this year Xmas light decorations are gorgeous. I'm intrigued by the fantasy fairytale theme too. Hmmm, STB might be tryin to help us escape reality. Haha. Its such a irony with a festive air on the streets and everyone in SMU is mugging feverishly in school. FYI, it's a lovely sight from the rooms. I guess our GST hikes went into the extra effort to spruce up our dear old Orchard Road. Maybe they should ask us for a Orchard Rd Wish-list instead. For one, please gimme a traffic-congestion-free road! ERPs merely encourage road rage among drivers. Hah!

Pardon the onslaught of ramblings. I'm in the foggy I-want-to-talk-about-stuff-but-i'm-not-sure-what-my-focus-is mood.
I guess that will sum up how I am feeling right now. Excited about post-exams, and dreading the exams at the same time. Distracted by Facebook & dying to concentrate on work. Wanting & not wanting. Its a pretty ugly state of mind.

Ps. Im in awe of the dude who invented oxymorons & paradoxes. He/She is indeed a genius. I wouldnt have came up with a proper term for it myself.

Jadite

25 Oct (Thursday)
Sally Ang Mei Mui's Trip to Little India for her photo assignment.
I'm a lousy model.
But at least she got good reviews at my expense.
Haha, right Sally?
Outside the peeling walls of the Ghandi Memorial.
There was a weird scribbling on it.

What retrenched working class woman who is calling home to report the sad news!!!
Sally actually came up with that random statement to describe this scene.
Pssst, tho it was my idea to use the phone booth, I didnt think of such a dramatic storyline. haha.

I like the colour red.
I like cars.
< I like red cars.

Sally's forte is taking unglam shots.
This is the only one which i dare to put up.

The below is just a collection of my random snapshots around the area.
The above is Sally hard at work!

My journey ended with blistered feet.

Entry Word: weary
Function: adjective
Text: 1 depleted in strength, energy, or freshness weary to do any more work tonight>
Synonyms-
beat, burned-out (or burnt-out), bushed, dead, done in, drained, effete, exhausted, fatigued, jaded, limp, logy, played out, prostrate, spent, tired, tuckered (out), wearied, worn, worn-out

Related Words-
overtaxed, overworked; run-down; debilitated, enervated, enfeebled, sapped, weakened

Phrases
- worn to a frazzle

Currently, I'm feeling as if the Duracell bunny & the Redbull suppliers have just forsaken me & left me to languish in my own self-pity. I hate feeling this way. I feel out of control; overwhelmed; overworked, jaded and dissatisfied (as I've been peppered with numerous disappointments along the way). I'm annoyed but helpless.

Sometimes, like now, I feel myself crumbling gradually under the pressures of life. Sometimes, it seem much easier to succumb and just let gravity take me. Maybe I'm born in the wrong era. I might be happier being a cavewoman picking fruits & breast-feeding my kids. Urgh... How about the swinging 60's then? Haha. Okay, maybe not. But still... Is it just me, or does everyone else experience this occasional grey typhoon which sort of sweeps you up suddenly and then keeps you stuck in the eye for some time, before letting you go(, not without some minor injuries of course)?
