Funny old weather at the weekend, sun, rain and then sun, a bit unsettled. I took this photograph on Christ Church Green as people were hurrying to get home from a shower. A little unusual but I like it.

ARMED FORCES DAY..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
Whenever I pass a war memorial I can't help but look at the names, the one above is in Wanstead High Street. I have seen them all over the country, I find it particularly poignant in villages. It's difficult these days to imagine the loss on such small communities. Armed Forces Day was celebrated earlier today by Redbridge.

WISTFUL..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
I photographed this window before in January this year, and as you may remember it's not a real person looking out but a mannequin. As I passed earlier this evening I thought it worth a second photograph as the mannequin has had a change of clothes. Also I just couldn't resist catching that wistful expression on camera.

BLACK AND WHITE..
World © Geoff Wilkinson -All rights reserved
We're having a black and white month at the Gallery, the pictures went up on the wall today. We have done away with frames for these pictures and used very fine cord to hang them, it looks as if they are floating. If you'r around Wanstead do pop in and have a look there are 10 new pictures on the wall and if I do say so myself they look very smart. Many thanks to Mrs W who grabbed this shot.

WHERE ON EARTH 3..

Here's a little brain teaser. This tranquil scene and peaceful fishing lake is not in Wanstead but it is very near, any ideas let me know.

DAISY, DAISY...

Daisy, daisy give me your answer do... I'm sure you know the words to the song. There is a smashing country style garden in Wanstead Place, I admire it every time I pass. I spotted this little beauty (I assume it's a sort of daisy), on Saturday and I just couldn't resist stopping.

BLUE AND WHITE..

Having spent a lot of my life 'living' on aeroplanes either coming or going I am always curious when I see contrails in the sky. In the perfect blue sky this morning there was a bumper crop, where were they going I wonder ?

REPOINTED...
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
Having put on that wonderful sunset sky with amazing colours yesterday I thought today I'd go for something completely different. I walk past this recently repointed wall most days, I hadn't been able to work out how to make it look interesting and then suddenly the penny dropped. It's amazing how popular black and white photography is especially if it's of something that looks even slightly old.
Don't forget if you are free the Vintage and Craft Fair at Christ Church today 10am till 4.30pm, there's bound to be something for everyone.

AERIALS..

Mrs W spotted this wonderful sky late yesterday evening. I popped along to one of my favourite sky 'locations', the footbridge over the A12 and managed to get these two pictures before it disappeared.

STEPPIN OUT..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
I did this quick picture on my way to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park the other week. The steps lead from Stratford station up to Westfield Shopping Centre, you approach them from the side so you are looking across them, it's an interesting angle. The other set of steps in the picture below are behind the Aquatic Centre, if you are at the top looking down they just make this almost abstract shape.

LA BELLE FRANCE...

I stumbled across this charming scene yesterday, a vintage French Citroen van parked in the shade of an overhanging tree with a rather elegant lady sitting taking coffee. You would be forgiven for thinking that I had been on an excursion to the Dordogne. It's in Wanstead of course, whilst The Manor House is being refurbished they are serving coffee from this classic French van and very good it is too, now anyone for boules. Don't ya just love living here!

THE BENCH..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All right reserved
I pass George Green most days on my way to the gallery in Nightingale Lane. I always stop and admire the trees now that they are in leaf, I particularly like the way they frame this bench. Sometimes it's empty, sometimes there is a solitary figure relaxing seated on it, other times people are just passing by like this family. Whatever's happening there's always a little cameo of life, it's a view I always enjoy.

STARS IN MY EYES ...
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved.
Now here's something you won't see very often on one of my pictures, starbursts! They remind me of Hollywood, red carpet and glitz. Every time I see a well polished motorcycle or in this case a well polished Vespa scooter, it just brings out the 'starburst' filter in me. I have no idea why, perhaps it's all that polished chrome. Happy Father's Day.

CLINGING ON..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
Walking back to the Gallery from the High Street the other day I passed along Grosvenor Road. I was really struck by this little plant growing over the brick pillar supporting a garden wall. I just like the contrast between the plant and the texture of the bricks. How do plants manage to climb and hang on?

MARION'S GARDEN...
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
I had the pleasure of visiting Marion Temple's garden the other day specifically to photograph this beautiful Iris Sibirica. In case you don't know Marion, amongst other things she is Wanstead's guerrilla gardener. All those patches of what would be bare earth spring to life under Marion's care. As if that's not enough she also opened her garden to the public the other weekend and raised several hundred pounds for Amnesty International. As you will probably have realised by now following this blog, I also like to find the unexpected. In Marion's garden I discovered these wonderful weathered oak posts which fitted in perfectly with her planting. Almost next to these stands a post covered in padlocks, bolts and locks, a little unusual but I like it.

CROWN COURT...
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
You probably recognise this view it shows Snaresbrook Crown Court with Eagle Pond in the foreground. It's not an easy building to photograph unless you are in the grounds, it tends to be hidden by the trees. However, sometimes everything comes together. Through this gap in the trees the Court could be glimpsed bathed in late afternoon sunlight and with dark rain clouds behind I thought it looked great.

STEVE THE MILKMAN..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
One of the small pleasures in my life is to go early each morning and pick up milk in proper bottles from my doorstep. I know it's only a little thing in relation to the Euro crisis or what's happening in the rest of the world but it makes me happy. In fact if you have followed Wanstead Daily Photo from the start you may well remember that my first post was a picture of milk in bottles on my doorstep just having been delivered.
If you are old enough to remember black and white cowboy films you will recall there was often a Pony Express dispatch rider who always got the mail through no matter what. Well it's the same with our milkman Steve, who incidentally is a fountain of knowlege about all things Wanstead, who starts his day at what for most of us would be an unearthly hour. It doesn't matter what the weather throws at him be it sunshine, rain or snow the milk still gets through delivered on time for my porridge.
As the football World Cup gets under way Steve has decked out his milk float with flags in support of the England team, now if I can only convince Steve to deliver the teams milk to the lads in Brazil I think we might be in with a real chance of success. Even if he can't make it to Brazil Steve will still be delivering to Wanstead folk six days a week, call Parker Dairies and get him to drop you off a pinta, I'll even give you the number 0208 520 5943.

CLOUD FORMATION ...
World © Geoff Wilkinson - all rights reserved
You may remember how on Thursdays blog I was commenting how lovely the light was around eight o'clock in the evening at Eagle Pond. Well shorty after it started to rain, the fabulous cloud formation however stayed. I was in the High Street when I saw these street lamps against the sky and despite the rain I think they make an interesting picture.

EAGLE POND..
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
I had a couple of hours to kill yesterday evening, I realised I hadn't been over to Eagle Pond for a while so I had a wander over there. There was great light for photography around 8 o'clock time, the sun was very low and the light was bathing everything in lovely warm colours. There were a few people about including several joggers. I photographed this one deliberately using a far too slow a shutter speed to give the picture lots of movement. It's not everyone's cup of tea but combined with that beautiful light it's given me a lovely almost abstract photograph of the evening.

WOW...
If you are a regular follower of this blog you know that I don't have much interest in cars. However, when I saw this beauty in the car park the other day I couldn't help but stop and stare, it looked amazing, what a driving machine !
Unfortunately the young lady driving it was off before I got a chance to speak to her so I don't know any detail but what a great looking car.

OLYMPIC PARK....
World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
We had a great photowalk in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park last Sunday. Lots of sunshine and loads of people out enjoying themselves, it's really a terrific place, if you haven't been do give it a try.
I don't usually take any pictures when I am on one of our photo walks, I like to make sure that everyone on these walks get the best pictures possible. On this occasion however, I just had to grab this picture as we were leaving. I knew converting it to black and white on the computer would emphasise the drama in the sky and the reflection in the water.

TUESDAY NIGHT IS VINYL NIGHT...
All pictures World © Geoff Wilkinson - All rights reserved
6.30 till 8.30 next Tuesday at Oxfam in the High Street it's "Vinyl Night". Loads of records and even CDs on sale and it's for such a good cause so don't be afraid to dig deep. As they used to say in the days of flared trousers 'be there or be square'
