After months of slacking and allowing my muscles to rot, I have finally found the determination to get back to an exercise schedule. Considering my current state of fitness, I’d say it’s a feat to have completed 5km without stopping, and somehow I still managed to do it in less than 30 minutes (25 minutes plus I think).

I have also come to realize, that in the presence of a certain cursed someone, all things will not go well. I am however amazed at how bad a proven system can turn out, even if this cursed being simply flashes by. Thankfully, the system is solid enough not to churn losses, but the demoralizing profits in the presence of this fella are truly a setback.

Then again, to take this event a step further, I’m still pretty much back to square one; unable to eradicate the randomness that resides like a parasite in this universe. I hate to think along the lines that everything is predestined and higher forces govern our lives like we control RPG characters. I despise even more the concept of NIL choice, where cause and effect is not within our control, and with tones of effort spent, that one might not get in return justifiable results.

And yet, all that has happened till now seems to render less and less meaning to life. The universe spins, steady and merciless, disregarding all human thought and action. By design, it may be hard to believe, considering that we are scientifically complex beings with sentient minds, but it seems we are here simply because we are; nothing more.

Once again, I’ve hit that dead-block. If not, maybe I’m trying to use a spade to dig through granite; a very foolish move indeed. Perhaps somewhere in the chain of civilization and development we made a mistake – snowballed into our shitty situation today, and all record of knowledge is like the flimsy spade, a totally inappropriate equipment to employ when digging granite tunnels.

Whatever the case, for now I’ll just enjoy the carefree life I have. At least I don’t have to worry about survival. Then again, even if I were to have to choose between survival or purpose, I believe I’d choose the later.

    Another Breed
    Sunday, August 19, 2007

Recently I have come across a new breed of humankind (or perhaps this was an example of a faulty old model). Whatever the case is, the variants of human nature never ceases to amaze me.

We have all known, for a long time, that most people would give money (since it is the primary representative of value in our society today), for the intangibles in life. Money, as we all know instinctively, is a means to achieve our desired ends.

There is, however, a small lot of people who would give up all the intangibles in their life (kinship, love, integrity, reputation), for money. Perhaps in the fair duality of the universe, if there is one perspective, there must be an opposing one. This lot of people, as difficult as it may be for us to comprehend, would willingly trade these very valuable intangibles for money. They see money as the end, and relationships as the tools to achieving this desire.

While it may utterly disgust us regular humans (I refer to the perspective of these people), it might actually seem perfectly fine to them that we be viewed as the pawns for their economic gain. In fact, I have witnessed with my own eyes, how one degenerate person can so seamless sever ties of kinship in the name of monetary gain.

Anyhows, there is really no right or wrong. As much as I do not bear a conceptual grudge, I am inclined to stay away from such people.

    Curiosity Kills the Cat
    Friday, August 17, 2007

In the past few days, apart from tending to business orders, I have spent considerable effort in decoding the random patterns of lottery and other similar forms (such as ocean waves, random number programs, etc).

To beat randomness, we must first understand it, and the process of obtaining this knowledge is not exactly easy. Suffice to say, to understand randomness is almost the equivalent of understanding the divine mind of the universe, an attempt, in moral terms, considerably “disrespectful”.

In my humble endeavors, I have found the common problem with all research done on randomness these days – we only apply the “sight-logic” to try to decipher something that obviously cannot be deciphered by sight alone.

We all know for a fact we have 5 known sensory organs, and if we were to separate them and perceive anything using only 1 of the 5 senses, the result, basis of analysis and drawn conclusions would be drastically different. For example, we cannot see music, or perhaps we can in the form of notes, but we cannot really relate to the beauty and emotional messages unless we HEAR it.

Theoretically, therefore, anything we might find random on sight may not be random to touch, smell or sound. In this light, I have laid the grounds for the deciphering of cross-sensory information, and have pretty come up with a theory to understand the random nature of the many things that we have once, and still, think is insurmountable.

At this juncture, I am actually feeling a little intimidated. Suppose the subsequent experiments actually shed useful insight to the topic, what’s next? Suppose the patterns and non-patterns eventually link, and successfully bridge the known past to the unknown future, does this spell the end of cause and effect? Will this denounce the very meaning of “endeavor”? Will all our worth be lost to the brutal truth that everything is at the end of the day purposeless, and we are merely a foolish bunch of organism lulled into believing we need a purpose, and that we actually have one?

I am halting by intuition, but then again, my curiosity will surely get the better of me. If the saying of “curiosity kills the cat” stands, I am perhaps, under the standards of the modern day, the best example of such tragedy.

    August (Week 2)
    Monday, August 13, 2007

After breaking the roulette code, I did not seem to be the least satisfied. I’ve realized that the probable 6-figure profits were not as enticing as I’d expected them to be. In fact, the whole thing just became a record in the past, a pinnacle conquered; nothing more.

Broadening the perspective a little, I have shifted my interests to eradicating randomness. Through the past few weeks of research, I have made little or no progress. While I have been able to determine patterns within many scopes of randomness (growth, consciousness, lottery, blah blah blah), I have not actually found a one-off solution to perceiving randomness.

To be more exact, randomness is really a “possibility of the future”, and while we all walk down a fixed memory lane (the past), it spells nothing of how the future will turn out. All means of known mathematics and physics, theory of probability and non-local coherence, does not account or create a tool with which we can “look forward”. Our sensory perceptions only allow us to know for sure the past, but not the future. Worst still, while the past takes a linear form, the future pans out into an array of lines, totally incoherent with the past.

As far as we have gone, we have only managed the unsatisfactory statement that we know what randomness isn’t but do not know what it is. It seems that all forms and tests we have put forth to challenge this ultimate riddle of time have been somewhat misplaced. It seems as if the entities of past and future are totally disjointed, and hold no relation, whatsoever, to each other.

In a whim, I though of using cryptology to define the “hidden messages” in a string of random output. The idea was grand, but the implementation was utterly tedious, and in the end, I’m back to square 1.

Perhaps at this point it would be appropriate to revisit my purpose of embarking on this frivolous journey. I hate the notion that whatever we do, whatever effort we take, that we are in the end left in the mercy of fate to determine the outcome. I adore the idea of freedom, and thus despise the idea of a universe where (if everything is a game of chance), there is really no chance. In fact, the more I delve into the nature of randomness, the more I begin to see that the whole idea of cause and effect is flawed. Cause, being an item of the past, has no relation to effect; an article of the future.

Another random thought just popped in. Suppose we want to progress as a race beyond the boundaries of randomness (and that would truly be some kind of a great race, for we would be able to evolve exactly the way we want to), we would first need a “language”, a medium of perception and record, that transcends the barrier between the past and the future, creating a link to the 2 seemingly incoherent entities.

    Ok enough of incoherent ranting…

The past couple of days had been quite fun, and a little relieving too. Since the long awaited program is up and running, it seems like short term (no in fact more likely, lifelong) expenses would no longer pose a problem. It is also, (and it has been long since I felt this way) refreshing to meet truly like minded people, with varied skills, and above all the motivation to see to the same destination. Goods that are meant to be delivered are delivered, and money meant to be collected is supposedly on their way.

I have recently been introduced to this “Super Star Avenue”, a talent show held in Taiwan, with a fresh concept of PK (like the RPGs), and a whole gang of great singers, 2 of which are seriously better than even the professionals. 4 of 7 days in the past week were spent on karaoke, more of an attempt to brush up my newfound vocal techniques and expression.

I believe this little exposure is more helpful than surface value. It made me see the “next stage” in singing (my little hobby), the breakthrough from a skillful rendition to a rendition of the heart and soul. It brings forth the paradigm shift of understanding the difference between good music and great music, and that at the end of the day, it is only music played by the moment’s soul that can be considered great.

I really don’t mind extending my karaoke frenzy into a short routine (until end of the month perhaps).

    Enlightened or Mad?
    Sunday, August 05, 2007

Sometimes I wonder if I’m actually evolving or it’s more like I’m simply going crazy. As earlier described, this madman’s journey is not even down a tunnel, but rather trying to dig a tunnel from which one hasn’t the slightest idea whether in the end there would be light.

In the past months, I have been growing (at least I’d like to believe it as growing), at a pace beyond human comprehension. It’s almost likened to the movies, the dramatic play of one crazy adventure to discover, if not determine fate and destiny.

There are times I simply disconnect from the rest of reality, just to take some time to consolidate the overwhelming thoughts that have gathered as a residue of this fervent pursuit to triumph over the arch-enemy of evolution – Randomness.

As the bigger patterns and concepts unveil themselves, it is often discouraging to find that one is not equipped “physically” with the faculties to perceive these grand plans. It is like someone tells you of a concept, an architectural scheme, but you are blind. You can hear all about it, but will never be able to imagine the shapes and structure it would take after.

Then again, perhaps light is more a curse than a gift. In the absence of light (assuming light as we know can only travel in a straight line), in the world where sound was the predominant medium of perception, we would actually be able to perceive from all directions, rather than only from one. I would very much like to try that, but it requires the insurmountable task of first forgetting everything that I have perceived in the light of light.

Well at least I can start t understand why we are such a messy race, and that everything we have created, down to the most powerful computers, function only on points (pixels maybe). Our minds have either been trained, or mal-equipped with the habit of seeing (our predominant sensory), resulting in us neglecting the other tools of perception we were born with.

To fully realize our potential (brain potential so I don’t sound too alien), we have to learn to use the senses, first independently, perfect them, then use them again in a collective manner. I believe the perception and reality thereafter would change (more accurately evolve), beyond the current possibilities.

I really hope I do not go crazy before that. It’s tough trying to keep a sane, no-destructive mind while trudging through the likes of hell.

    Eradicating Randomness

This is quite fascinating. Being the never-satisfied kind of person, have the roulette strategy is apparently not enough. Though it is possible, it is too damn troublesome to pull off, considering the numerous considerations and tediousness of the math.

So I have decided, with my little bit of newfound knowledge of universal patterns and non-local coherence, try to derive an explanation, and subsequently a strategy for the seemingly random lottery games.

As I have previously explained for roulette, deriving a viable formula counts very much on determining the valid points of reference. People who try to beat the table will always lose, simply because in the end they are really playing with the ball and wheel. Roulette, like blackjack, is easy to beat because the factors determining the results are so straightforward. Lottery is different.

Although we see the game as a set of random 7 numbers (here in SG it is 6 plus and extra number), the truth is the 7 numbers are 1 number. To be more precise, they are one body, which exceeds the modern constraints of numeric sequence. They can be better represented if we do not think of them as numbers at all. This is because regardless of the number, the ball they are imprinted on is almost exactly the same (at least under physical parameters).

So if 7 numbers form a shape, what is the “surface” upon which this shape travels? There is no apparent physical surface. The machine used to spin them must be disregarded; games only take place days apart, within which the machine would have been reconditioned.

The surface may be time, or something else. He challenge here is to determine the object which projects a non-local coherence to the, say 3 or 4 dimensional “chart” we plot with the series of shapes.

Another important consideration is that one result will not determine the next. At least that is what I believe. This is similarly due to the fact that the games are played days apart. It would be easy to visualize this thought in its entirety by taking the analogy of 2 mirrors, placed parallel to each other, with irregular surfaces.

If our knowledge / information is restricted to only 1 mirror face, we will only be able to know the points at which light have landed, but not the future points of landing. To know that, we have to be able to somehow observe the other mirror, and identify it as the corrent mirror of reference.

Anyways, while I have not put too much brainwork to this, I created a simple reference point and mapped a year of lottery results to it. The following is a graphical representation. It seems, from the graph, that what we think is random, is not so random afterall.

    Secret that cannot be told

Friday was crazy. Alan told me last minute he invited an online friend to watch Secret with us. When I met him, I asked, “so where’s your friend”. Before he answered, we bumped into Serene, and I thought what a coincidence it was. So the impression I was running on all the time was that we were waiting for his online friend and Serene was waiting for her friend.

We went for dinner, dota and all, and spent approximately the next 3 hours together, and I was thinking, wow her friend must be really late. Finally, when her friend arrived and she did not leave, Alan told me, “there, that’s my online friend”.

So I ended up hanging out for 3 hours with Serene, whom I did not know I was supposed to hang out with. Alan’s explanation – “This is a secret that cannot be told”. WTF :P
