These are the notecards that are in a set I call the Fennville Suite. They are 7 cards for $15 and blank inside. The cards are also available in sets of two for $5. I'll have them at the Fennville Art Jam August 21 from 1-8.

abstractions

These abstractions have been waiting to be called finished for a year or two. I've decided I like them just the way they are and I hope someone else does too. I'm wiring them and they're going into the bins for the ART Jam in Fennville.

Pictured Rocks near Munising, Michigan

These photos are from a boat ride we took along the Pictured Rocks shoreline. As you can see, they are paintings all by themselves by the best artist ever!

SUMMERS DAY

This is an older painting on paper that was just the right fit for a frame that was underutilized. Off to Fire and Water Art tomorrow.

sunflowers 2010 finished

The beginning sketch for the sunflowers (I always love this stage of painting) and the final piece which is heading to Fire and Water Art! in Lowell tomorrow.

2010 sunflowers

I updated a painting of sunflowers. It took all weekend to rework them, but they look better to me.

ISEA

Today is the first day of the ISEA Symposium in Grand Rapids (that's the International Society of Experimental Artists). I'm excited to see the show. One of my pieces in is it- the red one below. Above it hangs a lovely work by my friend Marylu Dykstra.. Also an exciting prospect is meeting the other artists, many of whom I know only by their work, some of whom I've met in classes and some of whom are dear friends. There are sectionals and classes too- should be a great week!

The show of 65 art works done in open and experimental ways with new techniques and materials will be hanging at the Forest Hills Fine Art Center in Grand Rapids (600 Forest Hills Ave SE) from now until June 29- hours 8-5 Monday - Friday. The opening is Thursday June 3 from 6-7:30.

Here I am!

Since I seem to be doing a lot of coming and going, this seems appropriate.

A quote from Barbara Brown Taylor in her book, An Altar in the World:

"Most of us spend so much time thinking about where we have been or where we are supposed to be going that we have a hard time recognizing where we actually are. When someone asks us where we want to be in our lives, the last thing that occurs to us is to look down at our feet and say, "Here, I guess, since this is where I am."

with Nikki Coloumbe in Madison, Wisc

After four years of online friendship, Nikki and I met at her show at the University of Wisconsin Arboretum. We're standing in from of her massive canvas Dancing with Trees. Click on the title to see some of the images in the Majesty of Trees exhibit.

what to post? what to name it?

This is a large piece that is done with palette knife and water soluble oils. I'm waiting for it to dry before I call it done. It may need some noodling. I should have a naming contest for it.

I should post something else, but I'm doing things that I can't show: framing things or rearranging things or ordering things. It all takes time. New work coming soon. I have couple of landscapes that are very close to finished and some abstracts looming!

TO FRIENDS I HAVEN'T MET YET

I was layering on the paint with the pallette knife and thinking about all the artists I've 'met' online but haven't really met yet. My friend Nikki is having a show in Madison, Wisconsin and I look forward to meeting her at the opening. Click here to see her work.

my work accepted into ISEA

The International Society of Experimental Artists - ISEA is meeting in Grand Rapids this year and the exhibit is happening at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center during the first week in June. This is my first year with a piece in the show and I'm excited that FULCRUM IN RED was accepted! This is a big deal- If I have work accepted three years in a row, I will be an ISEA signature artist, which means I can write ISEA after my name on my work.

new landscapes

"New"? The first three are a revisiting of some of my 'greatest hits'. Same locations, new take on the landscape. The other factor is that they have been painted on top of other paintings that never made it out of the studio. The layer underneath makes the painting quick and easy. This layer flows off the brush. What fun! All the other 'old' paintings better watch out!

CuARTo de Baño at Curves

These are paintings I did for the baño to match the new color scheme at Curves . I definitely have a baño niche! The top picture shows one of my favorite circuit trainers, Heidi.

Now for something completely different, I'm painting a series of 30"x40" abstract canvases.

This too shall pass!

FUN! Since I don't have any new art to post, I'll post someone else's! What a blast! Enjoy!
