Did it work?

Dear Family: For some crasy reason my blog had a foreign language in the opening and I couldn't sign in, but I think due to your mother I can finally do it if this works. Today has been a very cold day and last night the temp got down to 7 degrees so I have been staying busy writing my Christmas cards--if I am ok you each will get one. As of today all of my Christmas boxes are in the mail and you should be getting them in a few days. I have the one that is to be sent to the Pehrsons sitting here to be mailed but it is too cold for me to venture out.

It has been a challenge to me this year for Grandpa always wrapped all the presents for me but this year I have had to do it myself. I have tried a unique way or so it seems to me. Good old dollar store had some bags--and some of them are see through so don't open you package you get until Christmas.

Pray this blog works. Thanks Connie--Let me know if it worked. Love Grandma

To My Granddaughters

Dear Girls,
Give freely from your heart.
Love to you all,
from Grandma Hartley.

GRANDMA'S PEARLS OF WISDOM

I've traveled paths you've yet to walk
Learned lessons old and new
And now this wisdom of my life
I'm blessed to share with you.

Let kindness spread like sunshine
Embrace those who are sad
Respect their dignity, give them joy
And leave them feeling glad.

Forgive those who might hurt you
And though you have your pride
Listen closely to their viewpoint
Try to see the other side.

Walk softly when you're angry
Try not to take offense
Invoke your sense of humor
Laughter's power is immense.
Express what you are feeling
Your beliefs you should uphold
Don"t shy away for what is right
Be courageous and be bold.

Keep hope right in your pocket
It will guide you day by day
Take it out when it is needed
When it's near, you'll find a way.
Remember friends and family
Of which you are a precious part
Love deeply and love truly
Give freely from your heart.

The world is far from perfect
There's conflict and there's strife
But you still can make a difference
By how you live your life
And so I'm very blessed to see
The wonders you will do
Because you are my granddaughter
And I believe in you.

Need to get the hang of this blogging????

I wrote a long deal of my day today and find it did not work. I guess I did something wrong again. Ha.
But today I was suppose to meet the old Kind Deed group that I belonged to when I was first married.
They used to make a home made gift for each member when it was your turn to entertain. Any now all
they do is meet and go to lunch. (Can you imagine going to a same group for some 60 years???? Any
the plan was to meet at 1:00 o'clock at the Smokehouse restaurant and have lunch. So I went and waited
until 1:25 and and left> The minute I got home my phone was ringing--as I was leaving they were driving in
and I hadn't seen them. So much for that.

But instead I did a good deed for the day. There is a good friend of Mike and Charlean's (the people who
sang at Grandpa's funeral) and where every Sunday a group of us get together to have a potluck and play
cards. The friend of theirs -- this man 38 years ago was in an electricial (SP) accident and got his both arms injured and he
wears "Hooks" but he can play the keyboard like you would not believe. Any way Grandpa's Aunt Vivian plays
at noons over at the Pendleton Senior center and I had made arrangement that he could play over there in a few days. He is so good you would not believe hehas played at the White House.
So that was my day--how was yours????

Saturday and I have been cooking

Haven't got much to do today so will give you all a yummy treat. Have you seen the cute little square pretzels? Well start with that and put them on a microwave plate, then take a kraft carmel and cut in half or whole if you like and then add a half pecan or walnut. Put them in the micro for about a minute or less. Yummy snack that won't last too long unless you hide them. Ha. I am going to take them to a gathering tonight. Also I made a lemon pie to take to our regular pot luck sunday card party-dinner. Oh for the life of a grandma that has a lot of good friends and who think that I need to be kept busy.

October 14 Wednesday

Did we have a storm yesterday--and when it was all over
my computer said you are not connected to the internet.
Oh dear what am I going to doooooooooo--me who can verily
can turn on the computer some days. So I try to follow the
directions that the book says to do when you have lost the
"thing". And believe it or not again--it worked. I have
indeed surprised myself.

Maybe I am doing better than I think. So Missy and I are
staying in since the weather man says we are to have a
bit of rain all week and do we ever need it. But do we need
all the leaves down also? My Halloween decorations look
real nice and each evening I turn on the lights in the scary
pumpkins I wonder if Grandpa is up there smiling down and
not believing that I actually did it. Only 16 more days til
spook day. Get your costumes all ready.

Oct 9th again

Trial and Error" It certainly is heck to try to teach an old dog new trick. I have been trying to do my new blog on my own after my teacher went home. Maybe this time. Well yesterday was my Ides of March. Or let us say Grandpa and my Oct 9th day--Little did I know that back in 1944 on the Oct 9th Lenau would leave Illinois on his trip to go to California to be there 9 months and move 8 times in that period of time and on to Okinawa. Then several years later he started his job with the Rentex Laundry on Oct 9th and later when we were to move back to La Grande again it was Oct 9th. And then later on the sad day in 2008 again the Oct 9th was when I took him to the emergency room to find out that he was a very sick person and on to his last days with us all. So now yesterday was again Oct 9 and I wondered what was going to happen that day. Should I shut myself up in the house and dare not go or do anything or what????? Well believe it or not I went to a card party and won---a whole $2.00 for first and then in the evening again back to my regular card party at the seniors--but luck did not do me that good again but just the same a good time was had and another Oct 9th is over. Ha Ha Ha. Maybe the jinks is over.
Oct 10 Last night we had a cold one--17 degrees they said--so guess winter has arrived. My big project today is trying to recover our card table. I bought some brown material and some thumb tacks and my trusty hammer and am tying to do a job that normally grandpa would have done if he were here. Oh well guess I will have to just keep on trying. Hmmmmmm not bad even if I say so myself.

Last week I got out the Halloween decoration and have our plastic pumpkins all filled with lights and the scarecrows and Carls pumpkin and all my earlier decorations of fall flowers. Happy Halloween to you all --come along you little trick or teaters.

Believe it or not...here I am again!

Here I am again...typing a post for my new blog!

What a great day---now I have a new blog spot all on account of Connie and Carl came to visit me on the first weekend of October. Connie has been spending all of the time fixing me up a new blog and Carl has been doing all of my honey-do jobs in the rain.

Here is Carl on his way to do yet another "honey-do" for me!

First of all he has the panels put up on the deck so that I won't have wind and rain on the deck--took down my bamboo shades that I have up at my windows during the summer and put all my things in. Fixed each and every thing that he saw that wasn't working and a few things that I didn't even know that wasn't working. So now I should be in good shape for a good long time. Every thing is out of the weather, chairs, pots benches and hoses. You name it he has done it . Along with that he made a barbecue sauce for my short ribs that I was making for our dinner and the left overs I am taking it over for our Sunday potluck card party get together. So not only being ready for winter I am going to be ready for my Sunday afternoon get together.

Soon I think that I will be able to blog perhaps on a weekly basis--of course I won't have any pictures to show like every one else but I guess that will be OK-- See you in another blog. Hope your day is as great as mine. Connie And Carl are leaving in the am..

Here I am....in my robe as usual after fixing breakfast for Connie & Carl as they get ready to leave. Missy loved having somebody to fuss over her besides me!
