Travel Tales 2

Playing catchup again.

Friday
Activity or relaxing
Our holidays are neither very active or too relaxing
We love to visit places and hate lying in the sun
Our days of rambling holidays are past us now although I have a friend who is a few years older than me walked the Nepal Trail last year. She came to see us yesterday and said she didn't know how she did it
This holiday was in Tenerife last year staying with friends
Very relaxing

Saturday
Childhood Trips
Mum and dad took us away every year of our childhood.
I'm not sure which holiday this is.
I'm the older one with my baby sister, Mary
I would have been about 4 years old and look very serious because (it was discovered when I started school) I needed glasses and squinted to see.
Sunday
Fantasy Holiday guest

Jim Rockford was my hero when I was younger
I loved watching him in Maverick and The Rockford Files

Travel Tales

Dream Destination
We were talking last night about our dream destination and Roland reminded me that we had said we would like to go to
Peru
This photo is of Machu Pichu which would be unmissable if we ever got to Peru.

Close to home
We stayed here in April this year at Wychnor Park near Lychfield in the Midlands.

Far Away
Big Bear Lake, California
Our holiday the year after we got married.A belated honeymoon.
It is in the hills above LA and was my first holiday abroad.
I had never flown to a holiday before.
We visited lots of places near us there, even the desert but we had to drive up and down mountains to get anywhere. We even visited Sunset Strip in LA but were very disappointed as the area was very rundown and dirty.
We have been again since and it had been transformed and was a much nicer place to visit.
Worst Trip Ever
The Californian holiday was fantastic but getting there was the worst trip ever.
After flying for about nine hours and changing planes twice, the first time in Chicago then in Dallas.
We arrived in an airport north of LA at about 7pm, collected our hire car and began our journey up to Big Bear Lake.
It was the first time Roland had driven on "the wrong side of the road", we were very tired and hadn't thought about the length of the journey.
It took us 3 hours to get to our Hotel, climbing all the time, round sharp bends, in the dark and passing through the clouds. It was a very scary ride. Can you imagine it?
It certainly taught us a lesson and if we have a long flight with a long journey after it we always stay at a hotel near the airport

Saoirse stayed with us last night while mummy and daddy had a night out.
She had never stayed with us before so I was worried she might miss mummy and daddy
but she was no problem and we all enjoyed the 24 hours she spent with us.

I've been busy sewing this week and finished making this bag

I have started making a large patchwork tote bag and have completed sewing the patches
now I only have to line it and assemble it with a great deal of help from my friend Helen.

Sky Pictures

Another busy week this week including, unfortunately, a funeral today.
It was for my Uncle Brian, the last of mums siblings.
He was 86, had Alzheimer's, asthma and a liver problem He ended up having a heart attack while he was in hospital. I think it was a blessed release for him in the end. His wife Dorothy looked very frail though. We spent the reception reminiscing about old times with Dorothy and the cousins who managed to get there. We are scattered all over the country so don't get together now except for funerals which is so sad.

The challenge this week is Skies
so far I have managed to take these photos

Blue Skies

Grey Clouds

Centenary

We've got the grandchildren all week so I can't do justice to the challenge but I thought I would post some photos from our visit to the local museum.

They had their first trip on the top deck of a bus to get there.
