Come undone.

I need to whine!

Week 1 of the new semester (and my Honours year) came and went... and well, let's just say that I've missed class more than attended it this week, all thanks to a couple of administrative screw-ups which I had to take care of over going for classes. Call me superstitious but I feel like this is a bad omen for the rest of the year now that I have started Honours on a bad note. And it sure doesn't help that my new language modules seem so new and foreign and did I mention difficult?! (ok so Japanese *IS* a foreign language to me anyway but still).

To make things worse, in class on Wednesday I heard TWO students (both of whom I have never met) speaking to Sensei in fluent, fast-speed Japanese ... as though it came out of their mouths without much thought (!!!). *faints* It's not looking good, it really isn't.

But that being said, it's not as if I didn't expect all this confusion and initial apprehension beforehand. I mean, no one ever said that Honours was going to be a breeze, so in a way I am not that freaked out - for now. I am grateful to everyone (including the mother) who gave me encouragement and shared their Honours/postgrad experiences with me. I guess I will feel much better once I finalise my thesis topic with my supervisor and start working on something. Okay, ganbare Lynn-chan!! ^_^

Weep not for the memories.

For every single one of you who went to DHS with me from 1996-99.

On Monday I took a trip down to the place where I spent four years of my life, because most of it will be torn down at the end of this year for renovation (damn the new IP system!), and I wanted to take a thorough walk around before I bid it farewell for good.

Images of my secondary school years came back to me in bits and pieces as I took a good long walk around the school compound. It was actually quite an emotional journey, especially since I did the walk alone. And I found it almost impossible to believe that it has been TEN years since I first stepped into that place, nervous and not knowing what to expect, but full of hope and optimism all at the same time.

And throughout those four years in DHS, I have passed some subjects with flying colours and failed others with horrible scores, been teacher's pet as well as gotten into their bad books, represented the school in national competitions, been given awards both in and out of school, been the English Rep, had a slight 'thing' with a classmate and a major crush on the boy next door, made a couple of awesome friends whom I laughed, cried, and sang silly songs with, hung out at Tampines Mall, joined the best ECA ever (Chinese Orchestra!), staged a performance with the orchestra in China, had countless remedial lessons, hated Physical Education classes, talked on the phone alot after school, had diarrhoea in the toilet, crammed my arse off 30 minutes before a test, been punished for talking too much, cheated in exams, looked forward to 'Nasi Briyani Thursdays', been to the toilet intentionally so I could steal a glance at the boy next door, bitched about other schoolmates, skipped ECA practices, handed in my homework late, had doubts about my future, created a list of the cutest boys in my level (err with some other people of course), written countless nonsensical notes to HJ, had a senior really hate me, and also really hated her back.

I guess I can say that I have had a wholesome secondary school experience - one which was filled with many ups and downs, but definitely no regrets.

The classroom blocks A and B (where I have spent the most of my DHS days in) are scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt to hold six levels of Dunmanians two years later, complete with elevators and all that sort of techie crap. Although I am sad that many parts of the school are going to be demolished, I feel comforted that I made a final trip down and captured those once-familiar images before they fade from existence, as well as from my memory.

So if you guys have yet to take a final walk around the school and capture its final moments, please find a good day to do so, before it all goes into nothingness...

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Your body is a wonderland.

Since the 25th of June this year (the date of my flight back to SG), I have come to realise that I have a tendency to experience strange encounters on planes more than anyone I know (refer to blog entry dated 6 August 2005). Okay, so this is an incident that has now gone stale, but still worth blogging about nonetheless!

That morning on the plane I arrived at my seat along the aisle, sleepy and grouchy after spending a sleepless night cleaning the house, packing my bags and watching the World Cup on TV. I opened my hand luggage to grab a couple of things and the Indian guy (who shall be nicknamed Dr. Bombay) sitting beside me was blatantly peering into my bag as well.

WTF.

I glared at him and very rudely said, "What?" (I know, I know, but I was really tired and grouchy).

Taken aback by my reaction, he muttered "Nothing" and went back to doing his stuff.

*** SILENCE ***

Excerpt 1 -

Dr. Bombay (after a few minutes): Excuse me, I have a feeling that you are angry with me about something, but I really didn't mean to look into your bag...

Me (with very fake smile): No no no no it's fine, I wasn't angry at all, don't worry about it! You see, I didn't sleep at all last night and I'm really tired now, so that's why I seem so pissed... sorry about that.

Excerpt 2 -

(after some basic self-introductions)

DB: So... are you Asian?

Me: (????!!!! No, I am actually half-Spanish, half-German) Err ... yeah? Do I not look Asian to you?! o_O

DB: Oh, no no no... because I have never seen an Asian girl as cute as you.

Me: ..... Ah. *nervous laughter* (with droopy eyes and unkempt morning hair? you've GOT to be kidding me) -_-'''

DB: You know, I'm usually into white girls, but you are an exception.

Me: (Yay me?) ..... *nervous laughter*

DB: I usually get bored on the plane but I feel lucky now that I'm sitting beside you.

Me: (Oooooookaaay.....) *nervous laughter*

(Dr. Bombay then goes dishing out compliment after compliment, all of which I refused to respond to)

Excerpt 3 -

DB: You seem to be that kind of person who doesn't let compliments go to your head.

Me: Err... that's because I have never quite been in such a situation before...

DB: The men around you must be blind!!

Me: (Arrrrrgghhh!!!) .....

Excerpt 4 -

DB: You wanna come back to India with me?

Me: NOW???!!! -_-'''

Excerpt 5 -

DB: Can I have your phone number?

Me: Umm... I've known you for what, ten minutes?!

Me (after some hesitation): Err... we'll see how these seven hours go... (dammit this is never going to end)

DB: Man, it has never taken this long for a girl to give me her number you know!

Me: Well okay, so let me be the first one!!!! -_-'''

Me: Do you do this everytime you're on the plane?

DB: I only ask for a girl's number if I'm really interested... and in this case I know I am, and I really want to see you again...

Me: *pukes* -_-''' (I'm sorry but the feeling ain't mutual, dude)

The plane finally landed after a painful seven hours sitting beside him. Thank goodness he was on transit to Mumbai and I had to go to the arrival hall, so we said goodbye and he told me he'd call after we both got back to Melbourne.

The thing he didn't know was, I wasn't planning to answer his calls or reply his messages.

So bye bye, Dr. Bombay! :D

Really, just what is with me and meeting strange Indian men on the plane?!?

Between the moon and New York city.

I would have loved to splurge on your present and take you out to a nice dinner this year, just like I did in '03 and '04, but the truth is I am so sick and tired of feeling like the only person in our friendship that I refuse to do anything this time. Call this a childish mind game, but if you won't even take the slightest initiative in checking whether I was still alive or not, then why should I care?

So yeah, you can go ahead and assume whatever.

Happy birthday, KQ.

Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same.

Hey you.

I am finally back on earth after a 6-day hiatus (I was having way too much fun, just in case you were wondering). Being a student is always great because your 'holiday responsibilities' involve only ESP - Eat, Sleep, Play. Oh well, not like it's a bad thing! :D

So Italy won the World Cup this time. For me, it didn't really matter who won after Portugal, Brazil and Spain were out... but anyway I managed to persuade the mother to stay up and watch the match on Channel 5 with me, and now she can finally announce to the world that she has watched a full soccer match, complete with 90 minutes of game play plus 30 minutes extra time plus penalty shootout, yellow and red cards included. Now how much more complete can her virgin soccer experience get? That aside, I actually feel really sorry for Zizou's send-off (and the resulting media scrutiny). Yeah it was really unprofessional but I am sure that Italian guy must have said something pretty abusive in the first place. I choose to believe that a man of such class in football would not have committed such a classless act for no apparent reason. I am sorry it happened and I still respect Zidane for the world class soccer player that he is ... umm, was. But hey, with such a dramatic end to his career, he can be pretty darn sure the whole world will remember him for life! :D Never doubt the advantages of negative publicity.

Watching the closing ceremony made me feel a tinge of sadness that the WC is all over now, because I was so involved in the tournament this year. What with staying up till 7 am Melbourne time to watch the matches every single day even during the exam period, placing bets at TAB and Singapore Pools, soccer talk with friends and family, etc. I have learnt 1001 things about the game that I never knew (offside!) and gotten to know new players like Kaka (ooh!) and Cannavaro, whom by the way, I think is kinda hot. Soccer is an awesome game and I finally understand why 90% of the male population in the world love it so much.

I swear I will never again describe soccer as "only a stupid game whereby 22 men chase after 1 ball across a field for 90 minutes". I sincerely apologise for that.

The previous weekend was pretty awesome - apart from attending a close friend's graduation ceremony, I had an absolute blast doing 'touristy' things such as touring Sentosa, staying overnight at a posh hotel for free (!!!) and having dinner at Newton Circus Hawker Centre, all because the Japanese friend was here on transit. Sentosa has changed so much (gone are the Monorail and Asian Village - sob!!) and it's kinda happening now with the new beaches and, OMG... the Luge and Skyride. You really have to try those, they were so ridiculously fun :p

With Haru-chan, Piggy and Viv. Sigh I look like a huge apple here.

Camwhores on board the skyride!

Sentosa sea view (I think it was Siloso Beach).

The very thought of you.

Contrary to the expectations of most people including myself, Germany has now lost all hope of becoming the champ this World Cup. No more 'yandao' (translate: handsome) Klinsmann for me till I next see him in the Euro Cup two years later! :(

Okay, he may be balding quite a bit now, but he's still charming... hahahaa!!!

Portugal VS France in approximately FOUR hours. Go Cristiano, even as half the world is hating you now for the Rooney red card :(
