What happened to Howard Stern?

Outkick: "Kamala Harris-Howard Stern Interview As Cringe As You Could Imagine."
He was once the most daring, unpredictable, and interesting voice in the media. He was a menace to the establishment. Now, he is part of the establishment. Stern is nothing more than a neurotic useful idiot for the Democratic Party – see his interview with Joe Biden from April.

As we argued at the time, we can't say for certain what changed Howard Stern. Maybe it was age, maybe it was guilt, maybe it was his irrational fear of COVID-19.
I used to listen to Howard Stern in high school before he hit the big time with satellite radio.  He was an equal-opportunity offender and had a devil-may-care attitude towards, well, everything.  Now he's a 80-year-old grandmother.

Kudos to Bill Whitaker

I watched his interview with Kamala Harris on "60 Minutes" where he repeatedly and assiduously tried to crowbar her off her teleprompter-speech talking points.  The immigration exchange, in particular, was quite good when he asked why this Administration didn't take executive action (such as the one they're now touting) three years ago.

Bottom line: none of the immigration debacle is Joe Biden or Kamala Harris's fault.  It's the fault of Congress for not passing a law in 2021 and then it was Donald Trump's fault in 2024.

This will minimize the perception that Kamala is a lightweight

Fox News: "Andrea Mitchell says Kamala Harris has a 'big problem' connecting with men, who don't take her seriously."
"I think that there's misogynation in all of this, Black and White men, [it's a] big problem. But also the business world. They don't think she is serious. They don't think she's a heavyweight. And a lot of this is gender, but she's got to be more specific about her economic plans," Mitchell continued. "I think they've got to double down on doing more interviews and serious interviews."

Harris has taken heat for largely avoiding the press. Since becoming the Democratic nominee 72 days ago, she has yet to hold a single official press conference. In response to the criticism, Harris has shifted her strategy, stepping up interviews. This week, Harris will make appearances on The View, The Howard Stern Show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Jim Treacher: "#MeToo Is Dead, and Doug Emhoff Killed It."

For the record, I don't believe the Emhoff slapping story from these anonymous sources.  But I didn't make up the Kavanaugh standard of evidence and if the media applied it equally this story would be the lead on CNN for a week.  It's now obvious that standard only applies to Republicans.

How Vance won: trial by fire

Sasha Stone: "America Finally Got to See the Real JD Vance - The media was caught out once again lying."
Vance has learned a thing or two from battling a hostile press. Walz has avoided them and it showed last night. He did what Biden did - he stared with a terrified look on his face as Vance spoke.

But for Vance, there isn’t a nasty question he hasn’t already had to answer at least ten times. If you’ve been watching his press conferences as I have, you already know he can handle them. He was born to do this. You can tell when he’s about to give a really good answer because he blinks very slowly to show he’s tolerating their terrible question as he locks and loads.

But it wasn’t so much how he batted the moderators around — always a fun thing to watch — but how he directed his message straight at us, those watching at home.
Vance soared in this debate because he absorbed the lesson that Trump did not in his debate: the mainstream media is your enemy.  At every campaign event, Vance invites questions from the press which is almost universally hostile to him and Trump.  And he answers them.  So when it came time for the debate, Vance was well-practiced and tempered by fire.

On the other hand, Democrats in general are so used to the kid-gloves treatment that the result is Walz's fumbling and bumbling performance.  MeAnswer questionsWhat is going on?

Derek Hunter: "Why Can’t Kamala Harris Prove She Worked At McDonald’s (And Why It Matters)."

There was a third-party political ad shown during the football game that alleged that Harris worked at McDonalds while Trump is a billionaire.  Did she work at McDonalds?  Isn't it false advertising to say so when there isn't a shred of evidence this is true?
She’s never told a story about her summer at McDonald’s, never explained why she allegedly worked in a McDonald’s in California while living the rest of the year with her mother in a rich area in Montreal. Was she visiting her dad, who is still alive and she never, ever talks about (we don’t know why because no one asks) for the summer? Did the wealthy Marxist economics professor force his daughter to work at the absolute symbol of capitalism during their limited time together? Was he just really into irony?

These are questions a normal media would ask. Since we don’t have normal media, they aren’t asked.

The simplest explanation is that Kamala is a moron

People are starting to (finally) notice that Kamala Harris is a complete airhead.  The softball MSNBC interview yesterday only underscored this conclusion and even the New York Times couldn't deny the obvious: "Even the NY Times Admits That Stephanie Ruhle Is a Hardcore Kamala Harris Partisan Who Did Not Press Her on Any Issues, Says Kamala Harris Failed to Offer Any Substantive Answers."

Charles C.W. Cooke says we should apply Occam's Razor here:
Now, I hear similar questions about Kamala Harris. Why can’t she talk in public? Why can’t she answer elementary questions? Why can’t she provide any details of what she believes — or outline her political agenda — without descending into indecipherable platitudes? I think the answer is similarly simple: Harris is incapable of any of that, because she doesn’t have anything useful in her head. Hers isn’t a language problem, it’s an ideas problem. The issue is not that Harris possesses all manner of well-considered notions but struggles to translate them into English; it’s that she’s never engaged with politics as anything other than an electoral exercise, and she probably couldn’t if she tried. Last night’s interview with Stephanie Ruhle further persuaded me of this. Words follow thoughts — and Harris doesn’t have any.
She's a dimwit.  That's the answer.

No kidding.

No kidding

Reason: "Kamala Harris Is Not an Ideas Candidate - Columnists keep trying to find a coherent philosophy behind Harris' confused and contradictory policy agenda."

Kamala Harris is Chance the Gardener

I finally remembered where I saw a politician like Kamala Harris.  She is exactly like Chance the Gardener from the 1979 movie "Being There."

But first, here's some context about our dimwit Vice President from Charles C.W. Cooke: "The Oprah Interview Eliminated All Pretense — the Press and Harris Are on the Same Side."
Cooke pointed out that the interview, in which Harris was asked how she would bring down prices, “really verged into metaphysical . . . almost poetry. And Winfrey sat there and said, ‘Yes, yes, mm, mm, mm, mm, yes, mm.’

“It’s absurd,” Cooke said. “I am aware by now that people are voting against, and that they are going to pretend, whether they’re Republicans or Democrats, that their candidate is therefore fine, but they’re not, they’re not fine. Kamala Harris is not an acceptable candidate for president of the United States. She can’t answer elementary questions. She can’t talk. And the reason that she can’t talk is because she can’t think. . . . The mouth follows the mind.

“There are lots of people in this country with whom I strongly disagree who are able to present their worldview in a manner that is comprehensible and even compelling. But she is not one of them.”
In the movie "Being There" an illiterate (actual) gardener - in an improbable turn of events - finds himself in the midst of the Washington political elite.  When asked for his opinion, he mouths words about there being "growth in the spring" which the President seizes on as a deep and optimistic analysis of the economic cycles.  Overnight, everybody in Washington hails him as a purveyor of wisdom and honest intelligence.

But he's a moron.  Only the maid who raised him knows his secret:
It's for sure a white man's world in America. Look here: I raised that boy since he was the size of a piss-ant. And I'll say right now, he never learned to read and write. No, sir. Had no brains at all. Was stuffed with rice pudding between th' ears. Shortchanged by the Lord, and dumb as a jackass. Look at him now! Yes, sir, all you've gotta be is white in America, to get whatever you want. Gobbledy-gook!
Well, 45 years after this movie came out, it's clear all you need to be is a Democrat to get away with this insipid vomiting of words.  The media won't say a thing about the rice pudding between Kamala's ears.

This vapid shell has done three interviews - if you can call Oprah's love-fest an interview - and she still can't answer the most basic questions about any subject.

Playing with fire

John Podhoretz: "The assassination wish fulfillment."
I wish he’d accepted the results of 2020, I wish he hadn’t done the things that helped inspire January 6, I wish he hadn’t made disgraceful moves in Senatorial races that gave his rivals enough control in Washington to pass ruinous and bad legislation, and I wish he had allowed the Republican party to move on and find new leadership. His presidential candidacy is an unhealthy thing for his party and his country, though it’s probably more a manifestation of the country’s ill political health than the cause of it.

But, dear God, would it be worse for us if these assassins had succeeded. And will it be worse for us if one were to succeed between now and election day, or after, should he win. So much worse, infinitely worse—because that event will tear the country to shreds. That’s not even remotely metaphorical.

So go ahead, Washington Post, say Trump’s golfing is the real threat. Go ahead, MSNBC and the Atlantic, say the real problem is Trump talking cruelly about migrants in Ohio. Go ahead and find excuses for a thing that cannot be allowed to happen. If we do reap the whirlwind from the fulfillment of your darkest desires, history will know whom to blame—not that it will matter, because the damage will have been done.
I've believed that if Trump loses this election, it would open up the floodgates for ballot disqualification (the Colorado case) and bottomless lawfare.  Now I'm terrified it would open up eye-for-an-eye assassination as a now-normalized method of retribution.

The un-fact-checked lies of Kamala Harris

Why so happy, Joe?

Here's Dementia Joe's statement after the latest assassination attempt on Trump:
President Biden departing the White House commented on the second assassination attempt made on Donald Trump.

Before departing on Marine One, Biden said ‘thank god the president is ok.’
This you?

Why aren't you upset, Joe, that this threat to democracy and all the freedoms we cherish escaped another assassination attempt?  You've been spreading this rhetoric for years and Kamala repeated the exact same false allegations in the debate.

Let's face it: They Want Him Dead

The DEI grift is very lucrative

I saw "Am I Racist?" last night and it was good.  I had some minor quibbles (e.g. I wish he had let the people in the roundtable meeting talk more before he got thrown out for interrupting) but overall it was a pretty entertaining piece of social commentary.

One thing that absolutely blew me away was the amount of money these race grifters are charging for "consulting" or an interview.  The mother whose kids were ignored by a Sesame Street character (likely inadvertently) got 50-large for a sit-down with Walsh.

Not a typo.  At least they got $30 back from Robin Diangelo.

Some canned answers would have helped Trump

Me, last night: "Did he do any debate prep?"

We’ve now had two presidential debates, and at neither one has Trump managed to say one specific thing about his economy (the stock market was up and inflation was low don’t really count). He hasn’t deployed one figure about how real wages were up in his first three years and have been stagnant under Biden-Harris — perhaps the best argument for himself. It’s all been foggy generalities.

Same on immigration, his signature issue. All he ever says is that millions of people are coming in, they commit crimes, and foreign countries are emptying their jails — over and over.

He never makes any arguments that are designed to convince anyone or that connect outcomes in his administration to his specific polices.
Trey Gowdy is right: this was a "Land of Missed Opportunities."  The very first thing Trump should have said on the economy question was a prepared response like: "When I left office, inflation was 1.4% and now four years later, after spiking to 9%, inflation is costing Americans 20% more for everything from bread to shampoo."  Solid, specific, and relevant to the concerns of Americans.  Instead, brother, I can't even remember what he said except for the Haitians eating cats.

I feel like his debate prep was "we'll wing it - it'll be fine."

Kamala won the debate

Are we going to pretend otherwise?  Yes, she lied several times and never answered several questions but she also effectively baited Trump who took the bait every time.  Kamala's answers were canned speeches, regurgitated on cue, but they were delivered with a smooth aplomb.  She had a plan to repeat her teleprompter speech and followed that plan.

Trump's responses were unstructured and unfocused, bouncing from one topic to another.  He had so many opportunities to push Kamala on her non-existent policies but couldn't stick the landing.  Trump got a question on immigration and - instead of driving home his most potent issue - he went into a diatribe about rally sizes.  Because of his ego.  Did he do any debate prep?

What's the point of complaining about the bias of ABC News?  (For example, they did the Candy Crowley to save Kamala early on but let the "very fine people" hoax pass without mention.)  All Republicans should assume that the mainstream media is going to put their thumb on the scale and prepare accordingly.

Will this change the trajectory of the race?  I dunno but I can see how some Americans would take a second look at Kamala.  Which is terrible news.

Fight night!

Red State: "Kamala Harris Is Still Refusing Unscripted Interviews - Why? To Hide Her Insecurity and Incompetence."

There's some chatter and polls showing that Americans think Kamala will "win" the debate tonight.  If so, this would be the greatest rope-a-dope in political history.  Instead, Occam's razor applies: Kamala will fail in a public arena because she regularly fails in the public arena.  For example, after her disastrous interview with Lester Holt, Kamala didn't do another interview for an entire year.  Now we're supposed to expect her to spring to life?  Good luck with all that.

Afterthought - What's the over/under for Kamala to shoehorn in an "I'm speaking" moment?  I'm guessing 20 minutes.

Also - Trump should come out, act confused, and ask: "Where's Joe?"

In vino veritas

Hot Air: "DOJ Public Affairs Chief Says Alvin Bragg's Case Against Trump Was 'A Perversion of Justice'."  We know, brother, we know.

Wow, the Boston Globe published this?

Boston Globe: "Admit it, Democrats — Greg Abbott was right about the border - The Texas governor warned that President Biden’s lax border policies were unsustainable. Now, as Massachusetts and other blue states buckle under the costs of migrant housing, he’s been vindicated."

Acknowledging the administration had the power all along to stop the flow:
But for blue state leaders to now act like the Biden administration had no agency, beyond being able to provide funding to struggling states and cities, allowed the administration to dodge accountability for too long. That the administration announced an executive order in June limiting asylum claims, which has been followed by lower numbers at the border, proves it does have agency — and did all along.

The past year could have been, and could still be, a reality check for Democratic leaders away from the border. What Abbott did by shipping migrants to blue states on buses — a distasteful stunt — did expose the hypocrisy of Democrats who expected border states to be endlessly welcoming but weren’t prepared to write blank checks themselves.
Who's the racist now?

EV mandate? Never heard of it

Outkick: "Kamala Harris Now Against Electric Car Mandate After Proposing An Electric Car Mandate."

Hunter awaits Papa's pardon

Fox News: "Hunter Biden pleads guilty to all nine federal tax charges brought by special counsel David Weiss."

Hunter tried to make an Alford plea but the prosecution wasn't going for that so he entered a guilty plea for all counts.  If you're wondering why Hunter didn't try to negotiate a plea deal, Andrew McCarthy explains what's going on:
First, Hunter’s move is rational only if he knows he is getting a pardon. The tax indictment charges him with multiple counts that, if memory serves, could run to 17 years of imprisonment. A normal defendant engages in plea negotiations in order to minimize his potential penal exposure — you offer to plead guilty to a count or two, and the government agrees to dismiss the rest of the charges, and your potential imprisonment is capped. That’s not what Hunter is doing. He’s saying he’ll plead guilty to all charges. He can only be doing that because he’s playing with the house money — he knows he’s not going to prison, so he doesn’t need to worry about capping his potential sentence.
There is zero chance that Dementia Joe will keep his promise not to pardon Hunter.  Sentencing is December 16th which means he'll be home for Christmas although Joe might wait until January 19th just to maintain some suspense.

The Left hates free speech

David Harsanyi: "Kamala Harris’s banana republic on free speech"
In 2019, Vice President Kamala Harris told CNN’s Jake Tapper that social media companies “are directly speaking to millions and millions of people without any level of oversight or regulation and it has to stop.”

Does it?

Every two-bit authoritarian in history has justified censoring its citizens as a way of protecting them from the menace of disinformation.

Kamala won't debate

Kurt Schlichter: "Dodging The Debate Would Be Smart Because Kamala Isn’t"
But putting that aside, Kamala has got a problem. It’s a big problem. She’s not very smart. The only thing she is smart about is knowing that she’s not smart. She knows enough not to speak extemporaneously. She knows enough not to be interviewed. And I suspect she knows enough not to debate.
I only learned yesterday that the Harris campaign has not officially agreed to the ABC News debate with Trump because they don't agree to the muted-mic rule.  Looks like they're keeping this in the back pocket as a pretense to back out.  So much for the "say it to my face" bravado.

This is what happens when the media treats you with kid gloves and invents a persona that is far from the truth.  Because when Kamala crashes into Trump, he's not going to her to weasel out of her past statements, flip-flops, and horrible record particularly as Border Czar.  Interviews and press conferences steel a candidate for debates but Kamala won't do those either.

Disclaimer: I was wrong about Biden dropping out of the debate but I was really right.

Sure, let's keep talking about Afghanistan

Powerline: "The Democrats swing and miss"
If the Democrats were smart, they would avoid like the plague any reference to Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan. It was universally, and correctly, seen as a debacle, and the Afghanistan fiasco precipitated a drop in Biden’s approval ratings from which he never recovered. Normal observers see that the current controversy was stirred up by the Democrats in hopes of political gain. The controversy, kept alive by Democrats, mostly serves to remind voters of one of the Biden/Harris administration’s worst failures, and to tie that failure more securely to Kamala Harris.
Let's juxtapose the videos from the Gold Star families with Biden checking his wristwatch.

Damning with faint praise

Of course conservatives are going to opine that Kamala's interview was a train wreck, but a lot of figures on the political left don't seem to think it was great shakes either.

CNN (!) even had to note that she lied about her position on fracking.

Any more interviews planned, Kamala?

On the other hand

PJ Media: "Kamala's First 'Interview' Was the Dumpster Fire You Expected It Would Be."

CNN anchor Dana Bash actually asked some decent questions, but what really struck me about the interview was that Kamala Harris, more often than not, avoided answering most of the questions, and Bash didn't seem to be concerned with getting an actual answer.

You knew things were going to be bad when Harris really struggled to give a coherent answer to the cliché question about what she would do on "on day one."

For a moment, I thought Bash was going to corner Harris on the Administration's immigration policy when she asked (paraphrasing) "Why did you wait three-and-a-half years to implement the executive order that slowed down border crossings?"  Biden has bragged about how border crossings are (now) lower than when Trump left office after an EO - why the wait?  This could have been dong long before that placeholder legislation for future excuses was written.

Instead Harris just repeated Biden's tired excuse: it's Trump's fault.  There was no follow-up.

Congresswoman Nancy Mace said it best. "Shout out to commercials... at least I think I've learned more about Sleep Number beds than I have about Kamala Harris' policies and plans."

That's a good line.

More - The Corner: "The CNN Interview Revealed Only That Kamala Harris Is as Vacuous as Her Campaign."

We have been waiting ever since the day Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race for Kamala Harris to sit down in front of a camera and take questions from an interviewer. And if nothing else, we have learned why: In the friendliest possible format — a joint interview with VP nominee and emotional-support midwesterner Tim Walz, conducted by Dana Bash with the delicacy of an ornithologist gently hand-feeding hatchling chicks — Harris has revealed that her gaseously mindless word-cloud of a campaign is in fact an accurate reflection of her own personal vacuousness.

Dana Bash is doing a good job

As a conservative who believes the mainstream media is hopelessly biased, it's jarring to see some even-handed and probing questions.  The fracking part was particularly good.

The Left hates free speech

Jonathan Turley: "Meta CEO Zuckerberg admits he was part of the Biden-Harris censorship scheme. You've been warned, America - Zuckerberg is suddenly very, very sorry about censoring opposing views but only came after his company fought for years to conceal the evidence."

Kamala dons the MAGA hat

USA Today: "Kamala Harris steals another idea from Trump. Now she wants to build the wall – no joke. - The border wall is just the latest example of Kamala Harris' backtracking on former stances. Her convictions seem about as deep as what the polls tell her to support."

This is kinda funny

Twitchy: "What About Tim? Politico Admits Tim Walz Avoids Interviews Because Has No Idea What Harris' Policies Are."

A Vice Presidential candidate is usually designated as the "attack dog" of the campaign but Tim Walz won't do interviews for fear he'll be asked what Kamala believes.

Kamala won't debate

Here we go: "Kamala Harris Is Trying to Back Out of the Debates."

Legal Insurrection: "ABC Must Announce the Rules of the Trump, Harris Debate - Hot mics, seats, and notes? It’s a “he said, she said” situation. Tell us the debate rules, ABC."

What's this "notes" B.S.?  Who brings notes to a debate?  The whole point of a debate is that you must stand and deliver on your position.  This only confirms the belief that neither Biden nor Harris can survive separated from a teleprompter.

Also: the hot microphone ploy is just so Harris can do her girlboss "I'm speaking" schtick if Trump clears his throat.  It's all so obvious.

This is just setting up for an excuse to back out.

Testify, brother, testify

Hot Air: "RFK Withdraws, Endorses Trump in Court Filing"
"Democracy has become little more than a slogan for our political institutions, for our media," Kennedy lamented, "and for the Democratic Party." Kennedy blasted Democrats for their "lawfare" against both his campaign and against Trump, while committing "a palace coup" against Biden after the "predictable" outcome of the debate. He also tore into Democrats for anointing Kamala Harris without any democratic process at all, "only smoke and mirrors ... at the Chicago circus." And he ripped the media for its complicity in covering up the coup and shrugging off the Harris strategy of hiding from reporters.

Kennedy accused American media outlets of colluding with both the DNC and government agencies on censorship. It's a "naked exercise of executive power" against its political opponents, and told reporters in the room that they and their employers are responsible for the decline of American democracy as a result.

"Governments don't censor lies," Kennedy observed. "They don't fear lies. They censor the truth."
Look who has been red-pilled.  Kennedy also tore into Kamala for her basement strategy and the media's collusion in that strategy.

Whoopsie part 2

CNN: "New data shows US job growth has been far weaker than initially reported."

How does it happen that certain reporting keeps getting retracted?  It's a mystery!

Whoopsie!

Fox News: "PBS host apologizes for reporting Trump pressed Netanyahu to abandon hostage deal: 'This was a mistake'."
"PBS NewsHour" anchor Judy Woodruff apologized Wednesday for reporting a story about former President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that both leaders have staunchly denied.

Woodruff posted an apology to X expressing regret for reporting this week that in a phone call, Trump urged Netanyahu to delay a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas until after the 2024 presidential election to benefit him politically.

"This was a mistake and I apologize for it," Woodruff wrote.
Mistakes were made, the media said.  It's astonishing how these mistakes only - and always - go in one direction.

The media happily plays along

The Corner: "Neither Harris Nor Walz Is Willing to Be Interviewed by Anyone but Each Other."
Think about it: Harris has been the de facto nominee for almost a month, and Walz has been Harris’s running mate for nearly two weeks now. Neither one has done a single interview or press conference — no sit-down with 60 Minutes, no meeting with a newspaper editorial board, no Sunday shows. No interviews with local network television affiliates in swing states. Not even an on-the-record chat with Walz’s hometown papers or radio stations.

The difference between them and their opponents couldn’t be any more stark. And it’s long past time that the mainstream media started giving Harris and Walz a lot more grief about their shameless effort to avoid questioning between now and Election Day.

It's obvious why: Harris is a dimwit.  Her interview with Lester Holt on the border was such a train wreck that she didn't have another sitdown interview for an entire year.  She's only made a handful of utterances since becoming the de facto candidate and even those were inscrutable word salads.

I don't think she'll debate.  It would definitively expose her as a fraud.

Sunday, August 18, 2024

"Oh yeah, she's awful"

Red State: "Biden's Former Chief of Staff Admits Kamala Harris Vice Presidency Was a Failure."

The DNC starts tomorrow and remember this one fact: if it wasn't for the debate, the Democrats and the mainstream media were going to cover for Dementia Joe all the way to Election Day.  Now, due to election fund transfer rules, they're stuck with their DEI hire and they need to pretend she's up to the job.

The Queen of Word Salads can't do an interview or press conference but we're supposed to pretend she can be Commander-in-Chief.  C'mon, man.

It was a coup and MoDo is OK with that

This Maureen Dowd article is making the rounds: "The Dems Are Delighted. But a Coup Is Still a Coup."
It wasn’t exactly “Julius Caesar” in Rehoboth Beach. But it was a tectonic shift and, of course, there were going to be serious reverberations. Even though it was the right thing to do, because Joe Biden was not going to be able to campaign, much less serve as president for another four years, in a fully vital way, it was a jaw-dropping putsch.
Yeah but ultimately we find that Maureen Dowd is totally fine with the subversion of democracy as long as we can stop Trump.  When you've decided that your opponent cannot be afforded any of the rights and expectations of a fair fight then anything goes.

It was a coup?  Oh, that's too bad but Trump.

Interesting strategy

NY Post: "Kamala Harris admits food prices have surged under Biden: ‘Still too high’."

It's literally the hot dog guy skit: "we're all trying to figure out who did this!"

The end of clapter

Outkick: "Jimmy Kimmel Worried Late Night Shows Will Disappear Soon, But Would Anyone Notice?"

I think the last time I saw a late night show was when Trump had his hair ruffled by Jimmy Fallon.  I'm old enough to remember Johnny Carson and David Letterman who kept the jokes universal.  Now all of late night is infected with clapter designed to get audience to clap like seals for the Message.

By the way: even the quality of the non-political "comedy" is threadbare.  Kimmel makes fun of Americans who can't find the USA on a map and Fallon plays insipid party games.  This is comedy?  There's no set up, no depth, no punchlines - just silly giggling at each other.

Back from vacation

I'm going to spend the weekend reading the transcripts of all of Kamala's press conferences, news interviews and policy papers that I missed over the week.

We're at the "what flavor of ice cream?" stage of journalism

National Review: "The Coddling Of Kamala Is Taking Left-Wing Bias to a New Stratosphere."
If we take the broader view of what has unfolded in this election, we are left with one stunning example of media malpractice after another. At the start of this year, they spent months trying to cover up President Biden’s declining mental health, and attempted to “debunk” any efforts by conservative media to point out the obvious. Then, when the debate happened and they could no longer it cover up, they worked 24/7 with Democratic operatives to hound him out of the race, even seizing on some of the same examples of mental decline that just weeks earlier they had dismissed as “cheap fakes.” They then pointed to their focus on Biden’s mental decline as evidence that they were unbiased, despite the fact that they were merely joining their Democratic friends in lobbying for a stronger ticket.
As I recently noted, it was only a couple months ago that the Washington Post was calling for Kamala to resign from the vice presidency.  Now the mainstream media is all-in on propping her up.

Unmagic Kingdom

Ace: "Disney Offers Only 30 Minutes for Questions in Its Quarterly Earnings Report; Offers Excuses For Low Attendance At Its Parks."

This quip made me laugh:
They have a great, Spinal-Tap-Manager-Level euphemism for poor park attendance: a "moderation of consumer demand" for its services and "experiences."
If you're familiar with "Spinal Tap" there's a scene where the rock band's manager explains away the band's dwindling popularity by saying the band's appeal has become "more selective."

I'm one of those "Disney" people and, although I'm still dedicated to the Disney Cruise Line, I can't see myself going to the Orlando parks any time in the near future.  It's a shame because I love the Wilderness Lodge but the Genie nonsense really turned me off the Parks.  I'm just speculating but I imagine a lot of Disney Fans feel the same way.

No questions: Day 17

USA Today: "Kamala Harris seems 'unburdened' by her lackluster past. She can thank the media for that. - Vice President Kamala Harris' limited public appearances and friendly media coverage have allowed her to create a new persona. Can it last until Election Day?

I'm having deja vu to another Democrat candidate who avoided interviews and press conferences before being exposed as a complete fraud on the debate stage.

I can't believe they didn't pick Shapiro

You can tell the quality of Kamala's pick for VP by the reaction of the political sides:

For several well-placed Republican insiders on Tuesday, the response to Kamala Harris’s choice of Tim Walz as vice-president was one of overwhelming joy. “We are cheering,” said one veteran Republican operative, opining that Harris had picked the weakest-possible running mate on Harris’s short list.
National Review: "A Sigh of Relief That It Isn’t Josh Shapiro."  I also thought he was the key to victory.

This is a pretty bad pick that doesn't flip a state, Walz has a checkered background of accused stolen valor and a very left-leaning governance in Minnesota, and it opens up a campaign based largely on law-and-order.
That's a good slogan there.

When will Cassidy Hutchinson be charged with perjury?

Spoiler alert: she won't.  Her obvious lie was critical to the narrative and she'll rake it in with paid speeches while being feted at cocktail parties.  "Another J6 Lie Goes Into the Wood Chipper With the Release of Secret Service Report."
Remember Cassidy Hutchinson, the former West Wing aide who swore that the hearsay evidence she would tell the J6 Committee was the truth, the whole truth, so help her God? The new Inspector General's report on the Secret Service's activities on Jan. 6, 2021, has finally put this story and Hutchinson's reputation into the wood-chipper.

As you may recall, Hutchinson said that on January 6, as President Donald Trump was driven from his speech at a Save America rally to the White House, he "lunged" at the Secret Service driver when he learned that he wouldn't be going to the Capitol Building for a "peaceful and patriotic" protest. That was the story she told the January 6 Committee.
---------
Hutchinson's "source" for the gossip was, she claimed, former Secret Service agent-turned-Trump White House Deputy Chief of Staff Tony Ornato. Ornato says he never witnessed the event, much less told her

Furthermore, the IG's redacted report says the Secret Service took more than four months before he made himself available where he reiterated that this Trump episode never happened. The other Secret Service agents who were in the car said Trump never lunged at the driver, though one reported that he was angry that he couldn't go.
Remember the prime time, Hollywood-produced testimony for the Secret Service agents saying that this event never happened?  No, you didn't.  Kangaroo Court rules apply.

These are the rules you made

NY Post: "Potential Harris VP pick Josh Shapiro on defense over Israel after decades-old college essay surfaces."

I don't want to hear one single word about this was a long time ago after Democrats dredged up drinking games that Brett Kavanaugh played in high school.

More things that are "complicated" acksually

Legal Insurrection: "Reuters Rides to Kamala Harris’ Rescue on the Border Crisis As Criticism Ramps Up." - "It goes without saying that whenever a Democrat is on the ropes, the mainstream media and their purported fact-checking divisions will inevitably swoop in to try to rescue them."

The shifting standard of evidence

Washington Post opinion piece: "Trump baselessly blames assassination attempt on Democratic messaging."

In a world where every Trump tweet is a call to violence, golly, we just can't figure out the shooter's motive and it would be wrong to speculate.  When they find the notebook reading "I shot Trump because Joe Biden told me he was a threat to democracy" it will be dismissed and memory-holed just as readily.

Guess we're going with Chicken-mala

Red State: "People Go to Town With the Memes After Kamala Refuses Fox Debate."

By the way, it was noted that Kamala agreed to a debate with JD Vance before Biden dropped out.  According to the new rules made up by the Democrats, she's not allowed to back out of that debate.  Others have suggested that if substitutions are allowed, Trump should send Vance to the September 10th debate.

AYFKM with this headline?

New York Times: "Trump Backs Out of ABC Debate and Proposes One With Harris on Fox."

Trump should clarify that he agrees to show up to the September 10th debate with Biden.

Kamala won't debate

NY Post: "Trump says he’s agreed to Fox News offer to debate Kamala Harris on Sept. 4."

Yeah, yeah, I was wrong with my repeated assertion that "Biden won't debate" but...was I really wrong?  I think it's unlikely that Harris will accept an invitation to debate on Fox News but Trump clearly has a good reason to reject ABC News, namely the standing litigation against the "news" division.

Kamala hasn't had a single press conference or interview since her coup and she has no events planned for this weekend.  It's back to the basement, baby!  She can't speak like a normal person so she'll find some pretense to avoid a debate and depend on the mainstream media to drag her over the finish line.

We have no President

They were really going to hide this all the way up to the election: "Friday Eve's News Dumps AGAIN Make Everybody Wonder Who's REALLY In Charge of the Country."

Border Czar Kamala

Looks like Shapiro

Stephen Green: "Wargaming the Electoral College: Keystone Edition" - "All indications are that demi-President Kamala Harris will pick Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro as her running mate and I'm not going to sugarcoat this one for you — that's a problem."

Yes, Pennsylvania is a key - if not the key - to cracking the electoral college math.

Markets are (ahem) correcting

The binder-to-teleprompter strategy

She does this only because she knows the mainstream media will never call her out.

Just a waste of time

Fox News: "Schumer won't commit to Senate votes for Biden’s long-shot radical SCOTUS overhaul - President Biden's sweeping SCOTUS proposal stands little chance of clearing significant hurdles in a divided Congress."

This is just unconstitutional pandering like forgiving student loans.

What Harris position are we retconning today?

Retcon: "the act, practice, or result of changing an existing fictional narrative by introducing new information in a later work that recontextualizes previously established events, characters, etc."

I’ll say it again: This is creepy. If Harris has changed her position, she should say so. She should not deem correct characterizations of her previous stance as ex post facto illegitimate. And if she’s going to do so, the press should certainly not aid her in the endeavor. The responsible way for Politico to have covered this was to note that, having been criticized by the Trump campaign, Kamala Harris has reversed herself. “Kamala Harris changes her position on fracking” would have been a fair headline. Instead, we got yet another example of the media doing what the media always does: saying anything it has to do to ensure that Democrats are never embarrassed.
Must be nice.  Keep in mind that there are dozens of videos where Kamala endorses topics like seizing guns, stopping fracking, and eliminating private health insurance.  Like the border Czar flim-flam, the media is going to try to convince you it never happened.

Sunday, July 28, 2024

Oh, so she *was* border czar

Just a brief excerpt from a March 2024 article urging Kamala to drop out as VP: "For the country’s sake, Vice President Harris should step aside"
As a presidential candidate in 2020, she followed the Democratic playbook on issues, except when she raised her hand in support of eliminating private health insurance. She also managed to imply that Biden was racist and segregationist, citing his long-ago stance against student busing. In her famous debate rebuke of Biden, she said she had been one of the little Black girls on one of those buses.
Her touché was short-lived. Harris ended her campaign in December 2019, citing a lack of financial resources. Next thing we knew, she was moving into the Naval Observatory. She was a colossal failure as border czar, a position she held briefly, and otherwise seemed to have gone undercover.
Thanks for the clarification, Washington Post.

Does Harris have a single achievement?

Let's see: Harris failed at the border, failed to do anything for voting rights, and now we have an update on this assignment: "Kamala Harris failed to connect one person with high-speed internet with $42.5 billion from infrastructure bill."
During his 2021 State of the Union address, President Joe Biden tapped Vice President Harris to lead the effort “because I know it will get done.”
There was - and is - no basis for this confidence.

Media gaslighting

Salena Zito: "On Kamala Harris’s role, media cross border into outright lies."

It was all a crazy dream

It was all a dream: "President [Joe] Biden is putting Vice President [Kamala] Harris in charge of addressing the migrant surge at the U.S.-Mexico border, senior administration officials announced on Wednesday," Axios reported in March 2021.

Now that Harris is running for president—and that the border is a mess, with migrant encounters hitting a record high at the end of last year and Biden implementing strict asylum restrictions last month to attempt to curb them—a lot of this reporting has been memory holed. It's embarrassing to Harris, and we can't have that, now, can we?

"Harris border confusion haunts her new campaign," reads the new Axios headline from yesterday, published by the same reporter who penned the March 2021 piece.
Old school reference here:

Questions for Kamala

Boston Globe: "Four policy questions Harris must answer ASAP to avoid being defined by Trump"

They are:
  1. How would a Harris administration handle the Middle East?
  2. Does she still believe that those crossing the border illegally didn’t actually break a law?
  3. Does she still believe in Medicare for All?
  4. Does she still support the Green New Deal? And what about fracking?
Good questions!

Here's another: when you realize that Biden was in cognitive decline?  "92% of voters blame Kamala Harris for Biden health coverup: poll."
