Messy at Retreat

Good Day All
Hope you are having a great and crafty Friday.
I'm at retreat and am having a great time.  My morning started off not to good with issues at home.  Dealt with them, Then I went Shopping.  There is this great quilting store in the middle of nowhere about 15 minutes from the retreat.  It is a small store that has a great selection.  Its called Country Stitches in Winfield, Alberta.  I love the store, the staff and the owner.  Its all good and a big reason why I look forward to this retreat.

Here is a picture of my messy table and this is clean to what I normally end up working in.  :)

Do you attend retreats?  What do you look most forward to?  Are you a neat or messy worker?  Would love to hear from you!

And remember:  Give-away is can be found in this post

Later or tomorrow I will post pictures of my latest purchases.

 Here's to a Crafty Day

Let's Get Acquainted!

Good Morning All
Hope you are having a great day.  Its supposed to be a beautiful day here in Alberta.  And I'm really excited today for 4 reasons!

First - Its my turn on the Let's Get Acquainted Blog Hop Summer and Fall 2012 that Beth from Plum and June is hosting and doing a great job.

Plum and June

If you're new to my blog - Welcome!  I'm glad you could make it.

Here's a little about me:

I learned how to quilt in 2006 with a few work friends.  We would meet at my house once a month.  One lady taught 3 of us to quilt.  It was great fun.  We stopped meeting when I was put on bed rest for my pregnancy in 2008.  I really missed the camaraderie.  I decided to join a Block of the Month Mystery Quilt at my LQS.  There I met 2 ladies who talked about the quilt guilds they were a part of.  It took me almost a year to join 2 of the guilds in my area.  The meetings help to motivated my quilting and give so much inspiration.  I also started blogging last year to help with motivation and to keep a journal of my quilting and crafting.

The first theme for the Blog Hop is Novelty and a second theme is added - Colour.  I will be focusing on Colour.

Second - GIVEAWAY

I was lucky enough to meet Cheryl Arkison co-author of Sunday Morning Quilts at my quilting guild in September.  Her trunk show was great.  I've seen the book on other blogs and the web but didn't have a chance to check it out.  I still can't believe I got to see so many of the quilts from the book IRL.  I bought an extra book special for this Blog Hop as a give-away.  And its signed!
 Sunday Morning Quilts

There will be 2 chances to enter my give-away :

        - Follow my blog - just leave a comment stating that you are a follower
        - Tell me about your thoughts on the book - First time seeing, Bought the Book, Have a favourite project, Have made a project, etc.

Giveaway will be open until Monday 5:00 pm MST.  Good Luck Everyone!

Third - I'm going to a retreat today.  I can't wait to get everything packed up and head out.   I will have to cut my weekend short as I have a wedding Saturday night.  But I still get Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon to get some quilty time.

Fourth - I may be purchasing a Featherweight today.  I've been hemming and hawing about this Featherweight for a while.  Well I found out last week that sewing machine service store is closing and moving across Canada.  The sewing machine is in great shape, has lots of feet and the manual.  On Sunday, while watching Bonnie's QuiltCam, I asked her opinion about the machine.  She gave me some great advice.  On my way to the retreat, I'm gonna stop by the store and test out the machine.  If it hums and doesn't eat my fabric, it will be coming home with me.  My only other worry, it might be sold already.  Wish my luck.

I'm also thinking of starting a QAL based on the Sunday Morning Quilts Book that will be starting in October.  I will be making "The Missing U."  I love the story behind the quilt and I'm a proud Canadian.  Would you be interested in joining me? (bonus entry for giveaway)

Delivery of Give-Away Finally

Good Evening All
What an interesting evening!  My friend, myself and our four kids were to go camping today but we decided to wait until Wednesday because of the weather.  What a good decision!  There ended up being tornado warnings for the area that we were going to.  And we were going to be staying in a canvas tent.  That would not have been fun, especially with 4 young-ens.  Here's hoping that Wednesday will be nicer.

I was finally able to deliver the giveaway last week.  I ended up forgetting to bring the package when I took my kids to my in-laws.  But I did remember to take it when we picked up the kids.

And Susan was so great!  She gave me gifts!  What a surprise.  I was excited to meet a fellow blogger and then I get goodies too!  What a wonderful community!

Have a great Quilty Evening!

New winner for the Black White Strips

Good Morning All
Hope you are enjoying the long weekend Canadians!  I'll be at the lake with lots of friends.  It should be a great time.

I could not get in touch with the first winner of  my giveaway in Sew Mama Sew Giveaway.  So yesterday, I picked another random number and contacted the lucky winner.

And the Lucky Winner is:

I have been quilting since I was a child in the 1960's! I didn't make alot of quilts though until after 1986 when I bought my first rotary cutter, mat and ruler. Now I make quilts to donate to charity -- about 10 a year. I think 400 quilts would be a reasonable estimate for all those years...

What is amazing to me, she lives about 30 minutes from my In-Laws that I'm taking the kids to.  So I get to personally deliver the goodies!!  How many of us get that chance?   And 400 quilts, I can only hope that I will one day come close to that number.

Have a great Canada Day Weekend!

Please contact me Margaret

Hi Margaret
Your email won't work for me.  I would love to send your gift! Can you email me?

If you aren't sure if you are the correct Margaret - this is your post:

Hi Vicky-I am a follower.
I have been sewing for 41 years, my first quilting project was a hand pieced pillow when I was 17, made a lot of quilts the wrong way when my kids were little (they loved them anyway-they didn't know;))))-and have finally started to get the hang of things and make quilts I feel really good about giving away within the last two years. In between I've sewed a little bit of everything, and have done the most of English smocking and heirloom sewing- that was my specialty till the kids outgrew wearing it :)
Thanks for the opportunity to win this great giveaway.
Margaret
You can reach me at

If I don't get a reply by Monday, I guess I will have to pick another winner. :(
Thanks

I have notified her via email.

It was taking me so long to pick the winner as I wanted to reply to all the comments before picking the winner.  I finally realized at 11:00 pm last night - Not possible!  I'm still working on checking out all the blogs of my commenter's.  Don't be shocked if you hear from me in a few weeks.  I'm sure it will take me that long LOL.

Thanks

Oh My! What Responses!

Good Evening Everyone
Hope you've had a great day.

Its been raining for 2 days straight where I live.  I just want to curl up on the couch and veg. But of course, life doesn't always let us do what we want.  We had to show our new rental place twice yesterday and then drive across the city to meet with our new tenants.  Then today I had to drive an hour each way to show another house of ours and take painting supplies to our contractor.  Thank goodness my kids are great in the truck.

Hoping I can get downstairs tonight to my quilting studio so I can clean up after making the twins' quilts.  I need to clean off my desk to set up my laptop and answer all the responses.  I didn't even think in my wildest dreams that I would get the response I did. I'm in shock and utter delight.  :) :) :)

I thought maybe I should answer the question myself:

I've been quilting for 6 and 1/2 years.  And I've finished 8 quilts, 2 bags, 3 sets of coasters, 3 mug rugs, potato bag, 3 doll quilts, 3 table runners, and more I can't remember.  I have 2 quilts that are sandwiched and ready to be quilted.  I have many UFO's and PIG's to finish.

Have a Great Evening!

Follower Give-Away

Good day all
We are having beautiful weather here.  What's the weather like for you?  I would rather have the snow and cold now, not when spring is supposed to start.  Here's to good weather for the rest of the year.
I can't believe its already February!  Where does the time go.
I was hoping to be more consistent in posting for 2012.  Which didn't quite work out the way I was hoping.  LOL.  That's life right!
I didn't have any followers at the beginning of January, through out January I had 2 followers and now at the end of January I have on lonely follower.  :)  So my friend, you will receive my first give-away!  Please send me your address and I will send you a little something for sticking with me.

At the end of February, I may do another give-away.  If my followers double, I'll draw for another gift in the mail.  LOL  I'm sure that we can do it.  And there might be even a surprise if we surpass that number.

Have a great day.
