Consider the meme (the idea as replicator/virus). Do you agree with Daniel Denett’s notion of the meme in his TED talk? What are the implications of thinking of ideas in these terms? Consider Susan Blackmore’s extension of the meme—the teme, in your reflections in your blog. What happens if you “extend” (in a McLuhanesque fashion) this idea to its logical extreme?


Memes? Ideas that replicate themselves from brain to brain like a virus? But why using such a strong word like virus to describe memes, is it because the way of how it spread? The definition of virus in science term is…an ultramicroscopic (20 to 300 nm in diameter), metabolically inert, infectious agent that replicates only within the cells of living hosts, mainly bacteria, plants, and animals: composed of an RNA or DNA core, a protein coat, and, in more complex types, a surrounding envelope…ba ba ba~
In other word, they are saying memes are bad for us.

Yes, I do agree on Daniel Dennett’s notion of the meme to a certain point, its stuff with attitude. But is meme just bad for us? Or is it a human mistake to judge them too early/lightly? What I about to say is meme stand at neutral position, it could be involving with us and is also not a concern to us. As we all know, meme is something not science can talk about. But do you realize that there is also very famous meme that could bring one to heaven or hell? When we young, we been introduce to this famous word from our parent and it had been spread throughout the world. Most of the human could have experience it before and even you could know better than me about this meme. And Yes this special meme is non other than what we already know, that could be pronounce in word as “Love”.

Love, just another few of the meme for us to die for. It do control us like a parasite, many of us had already been damage by it but it still an important factor for us human to survive in this world. From Susan Blackmore TED talk about meme let me realize that there are certain type of meme does involve with human and I do believe Love is just another meme that depend on human so they can keep on replicate themselves and continue throughout the century. If without this special meme, there will not be any sex category involve and thus human are bound to be extinct from earth. Some of us believe with love, one could wake up from their nightmare or crisis and some do believe with love, one could sacrifice themselves to save their family and love one. With love, human can push themselves to the limit and bring impossible to possible. So is love such a bad thing to us? Yes there have been too many of us die because of love but that suicide is not just love responsibility, not just the person responsibility but is all of us responsibility. We human are the selfish one, we blame on others but not us, could be involve with other type of meme but that what make us human, without them we are like vegetable, waiting for miracle to happen.

So what I had already told you is meme not just a virus, but is also the heart for us, like what Daniel Dennett say in TED video on HIV virus, don’t run away from it but to deal with it, learn to live harmony with it and nothing could go wrong.

The idea map of my knowledge is just like a hamster cage, the knowledge I had was always been receive from outsource, could be from surrounding, the people or something else but it never been the case of learning from itself. One such example case is a newborn kitty without being educated from their mother knew to cover their mess after business without someone telling them or show it to them. It is like common sense or a command by Mother Nature.

The reason why I refer my knowledge to cage because everything is been provided, just like how good a hamster life can get is due to how big their cage are. Starting your knowledge could be similar to a hamster’s life in one plastic cage, slowly the hamster will notice that someone provide more plastic tube connect to other areas but there is a limited space for them to run about. Maybe when time goes by or some lucky hamster, they will be provided with more plastic tube connect to other areas. Thus, most the hamster does not have the authority to choose for the plastic tube but to wait for miraculous to happen.

The peaks and valleys of my idea world represent the skills involve with me to continue my journey. I could had easily progress though my world with the knowledge and skills as thought there are unlimited amount of cash for me to use. The swamps of uncertainties represent my emotion toward doing things. I could have planned on to work on time but my mood is like ants biting around my mind, every time I get caught up with it will lose the motivation on doing anything.

Structuralists, a language that allow us to identify the element of the system, accept as true that combine systems as a whole, and as a whole act as one system. So to speak those mixtures of the element form into one big element.
Let me try to simplify it, imaging that those complicated systems are just like many of those cute transparent bubbles. After they had gather together at the top of the water, those tiny little bubble will eventually form into one big bubble which we do not call them many bubble but just one big bubble.
It is same theory for those systems. When many system gather together, we do not call them many system but as a whole of one effective system.

After study of the structuralists , I realize that it is similar to the way of how games work. When player are playing the game, they do not aspect of the elements of the game but the game itself. When the game fail, is not that just a few problem cause it to fail but is the whole thing that make it fail. To have better of way to say it is that the game have more bad points rather than good points, which most game designer fail to see it this way because they were too focus on to their ideas or maybe just do not admit that their idea suck.
What I am saying is base on say evident and my perspective on some of the games. Just look at final fantasy as an example, do the turn base strategic work well in role playing games? For me I would disagree on it because the game is just way too slow, too troublesome as every battle I cannot avoid but to fight, and to kill those monsters I had to use powerful spell repeat number of times to just past through the dungeon. Of cause not to add in that the better spell you using, the longer the animation will be. =D

Semiotics, the way of study signs and symbols that deeper than it look as. Semiotics is opposite of the way of so called “normal” idea as “normal” ways of forming idea is through brainstorming and coming up idea base on their dreams and experiences. However, semiotics is base on certain subject such as clouds or stars to form ideas. Astronomy is the one who using semiotics to understand certain things that no one would able to figure out what is going on in their head until they really speak out some of the really good points.

As for metaphors, it will be quite useful for me as it allow us to send a message or feeling to the player. One example is gamer verses alien, we all know that alien cannot be real on earth but why do the player get scare of being attack by them? Because the way of metaphor comparing the game to the real world. Although we cannot be possible to find any alien to jump on us but what if we compare alien to some large breed dogs? Would we get worry with the image of them suddenly started attacking us same way as the game itself?
