Details & ticket info for the Suede reunion gig
Just got this email from Brett Anderson. Yes, I subscribe to the man's mailer. Yes, I've heard the Hunted STFU I don't care he's still Brett Anderson and I still sell heart and I still sell meat...
The group split in 2003 and played their last concert in December that year; since then founder Brett Anderson has gone on to release three critically acclaimed solo albums.
The group's eponymous debut album went straight into the chart at No 1 on release in 1993 and went on to win that year's Mercury Music Prize. They announced onstage that they would donate the £20,000 prize money to Cancer Research with Brett Anderson recently saying; "We donated the Mercury prize money to Cancer Research because everyone has been touched by cancer - I personally have been touched by it and am very keen to support cancer charities when I can".
Suede dominated music in the early and mid 1990's and had the rare honour of being proclaimed the best band in the country before they had even released a single. They are credited with pioneering Britpop, a musical style that would go on to inform movements in other creative arts, although the group were one of the few bands of the era to translate their UK success into international sales.
The line-up for the Albert Hall show will be Brett Anderson, bassist Mat Osman, drummer Simon Gilbert, guitarist Richard Oakes, and keyboard player Neil Codling.
Suede, the group who reinvented British guitar music in the early 1990's, are to reform for a special performance at London's Albert Hall in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust on March 24th this year.
