Hi guys, its been a long time since I updated the blog since I found out that not many people visit it frequently. However, our concert is in 23 days!

Concert details and information can be found out here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/VSCO-Presents-%E9%9B%85%E5%A3%B0%E7%90%B4%E9%9F%B5-17-March/342995419073324

Hi guys, December residential camp is from 27th Dec to 29th Dec. If you have not been notified by your various seniors/ section leaders, please take note that you will have to come to school on Thursday, 22nd December at 2pm to collect your consent form from me in the CO Room and pay $15 for camp funds which will be used to purchase your meals. For those who have already received their consent forms, please return the reply slip as soon as possible, either on Thursday at 2pm or on the day of the camp. Please notify seniors beforehand if you have any dietary requirements and medical conditions.

There are certain things to take note for the upcoming December camp.

Firstly, it is compulsory for everyone to bring one set of School Uniform along with their CO Badges. For Secondary Twos, the year has yet to end so please bring your khaki shorts. In the unfortunate case where you have already thrown your shorts away, please inform me or your SLs and we will give you further instructions from there although it is regrettable that you have lost an item with great sentimental value. The School Uniform will only be worn on the last day of the camp as we will be having a performance for the Secondary One Orientation Event in school. We will be dismissed before lunch time. I hope that everyone put in their best efforts into the performance as we will be performing some familiar songs, namely Matsuri, Mandala, A Xi Tiao Yue and one more which has yet to be confirmed but will most likely be Sai Ma.

Secondly, this December Residential Camp will be the last camp which will be organised by the committee of 2011/2012, therefore I hope that everyone will be able to participate and enjoy themselves thoroughly.

Lastly, the packing list will not be given to you on Thursday, hence I have uploaded it as you can see below. For those who require the packing list, please do click on the download button and take note that the set of School Uniform has not been added into the packing list and you will have to add it manually. This camp will not be your ordinary day to day camp, so please look forward to new activities and additions which will definitely blow your mind! :)

Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and have a nice day!

Hi guys,

Interaction is over, I hope that everyone has enjoyed themselves and met new friends who can share their musical knowledge with you! Please do remember to hand in the consent forms to either your SLs or any committee member so that we can give you your CCA Points.

December camp will either fall on the 27th~29th December, or not happen at all. Therefore please try to keep these 3 dates free so that you can enjoy the awesome camp together with your CCA friends :) This year's camp will be very different so please anticipate it!

Lastly, for tomorrow's MTDC concert, we will be giving out the tickets tomorrow after combined practice so please turn up for practice if you want the tickets. The concert is at Singapore Conference Hall, 7.30pm. Thanks!

Open House is over. Although our performance was not up to standards, I was abit harsh on my words so please dont feel too guilty. Give yourselves a pat on your back if you know that you have put in your best effort and buck up for future performances (Chinese New Year, Sec 1 Orientation, Concert, etc). :) I hope that everyone can move on but learn from past mistakes, ensuring that they will never happen again, such as breaking of strings or instruments while heading to the hall... Although Mr Lee was continuously smiling, it does not mean that we did very well. It was more of an encouragement for us to stop thinking too much about how bad our performance was and move on instead, without forgetting the necessary precautions that must be taken in the future. Our orchestra is small enough, hence I really really hope that everyone can put in their best efforts as everyone is part of the VSCO family. :)

Now, I shall stop ranting since some of you guys think im so naggy hahas :)
The VSCO Shirt has arrived, and only those who have paid will be receiving their shirts so please pay up as soon as possible to get your shirt earlier! Please do give me any feedback regarding the VSCO Shirt, such as ways to improve the design and colour, etc.

Lastly, I would seriously appreciate it if you guys can maintain your discipline. Making so much noise while waiting for our turn to perform really reflects badly on our CCA. Playing around in CO room reflects on your upbringing. Please do the right things at the right time. Please dont be late as well, as you will affect the whole orchestra especially if you are a key player.

Learn from our mistakes and move on!
Thanks,
Darren.

Hi guys, after a long time, the blog is updated yet again! Sorry for not updating blogposts!

Firstly, Open House Performance is upcoming, only 2 days away! We are performing in the School Hall and not the Canteen this time, although there is no air-con and it is an 'open' concept. Songs we are performing are: Mandala, Matsuri, 阿细跳月, 赛马 and 郵递马车. Lets do our best like always and inspire possible future Victorians to fall in love with our music! :) As usual, practice makes perfect so please put in your best efforts in practicing the songs, especially the parts where the orchestra needs to go loud and soft, as well as your own solo parts. :) Secondly, the VSCO Shirt will be collected soon, so please pay up as soon as possible as those who have not paid will not receive their shirts until they have done so!

Currently, there are a few important things we must take note of:

-Firstly, the VSCO 2011 Interaction, which will take place on 28th and 29th of November. Please take note that this interaction is a music interaction, so please make friends with a motive of learning more about their orchestra and instrument-playing techniques and not some other motive!

-Also, we will most likely be having a December camp, which will be the last camp organized by the current VSCO committee'2011/2012. Please do look forward to an enjoyable and exciting camp, although it is still tentative due to complications regarding the camp dates! :)

-Lastly, there is also the most important thing, VSCO Concert! Although the name of the concert has yet to be decided, i believe that everyone has already received most of the scores for the songs which may be used in the concert. Please try to perfect the song to make the concert a success! In an orchestra, we are one and what matters is our teamwork. Please do help one another out by practicing the songs together as a section or orchestra! Alumni members of VSCO will officially be joining us for practice from 21st November onwards, although you may once in a while see a few seniors coming in to guide and teach us as they are more experienced. The concert is a really big thing as it has been around 5 years since VSCO had a concert, unlike Concert Band and Choir who have been organising concerts annually/biannually. Therefore, I hope that everyone can put in their best efforts and work towards the same goal of perfecting our concert songs. Confucius: 'A journey of a thousand miles begin with a single step'. With this in mind, this concert will be like the first step to constructing a system of having VSCO concerts biannually, hence it will be SYF year, Concert year, SYF year, etc. By having this concert, we will be able to showcase hidden talents within VSCO, allowing parents to have an insight of the progress of the CCA their son is in. Additionally, friends of VSCO members will be able to watch VSCO perform and hopefully enjoy our melodious music! :)

I hope that everyone will do their part in forming an orchestra with strong bonds and great teamwork, in order to enable VSCO to scale greater heights!

VSCO JiaYou/Fighting/AllTheWay/Boleh/GamBaDe!

Hi guys, Speech day is over!

We performed well, so... *applaud* :D

CA2s are coming, so good luck to everyone! CCA break for CA2s will start from this Saturday, 06/08, which means that there is no practice this Saturday, so please concentrate on your studies and score well! :) Your SLs will remind you about this and also inform you when practice resumes when the time comes.

Lastly, for those who have yet to order their CO photos, please do so BEFORE THURSDAY by informing your respective SLs. Please PAY UP ON THURSDAY as we have to order the photos on Friday and need the money to do so.

Thanks!
-Darren :)

The Victoria Challenge is over... I hope you all enjoyed it especially seeing our gong on stage during the opening ceremony! hahas :D However, the end of VC marks the countdown to Speech Day (30th July). This means that we have only 2 more weeks to practice! Practice Practice Practice! Practice makes perfect! Therefore, I hope that you all will practice diligently so that our performance will blow the audience away and impress everyone who is listening to our performance! :D

Also, we are currently planning for a VSCO shirt. If you have any good design suggestions, please pass them to me during or after practice as soon as possible! Please take note that the design can only be made up of maximum 2 colours, and you must indicate the front and back of the shirt. It is entirely up to you on how you want to design the shirt, but it must be related to VSCO. It is okay if you want to have a design whereby one side of the shirt is blank. Please let your imagination run wild and come up with innovative designs!

Lastly, the O level Mother Tongue Oral examinations have ended, hence normal venues will resume: GuanYue and XianYue will go to classrooms. TanBoYue, Cello Bass and Percussion will be in the CO Room/ Storeroom.

Next practice will be on Monday, 18/07/11. Bernard will be conducting dazu until 3.15 before the secondary 3s have to go for their ICAS English. We will be back at around 4pm, and Bernard will continue dazu. I also understand that the secondary 1s have ICAS from 2.15pm to around 3pm. Please come for dazu once ICAS has ended. See you on Monday! :D

Dazu yesterday was quite good, even though our orchestra size is small. 52 members including current committee. If we add those who were absent, we should have around 60 members only D:
However, size does not matter! The important thing is the quality of our music! Therefore, even though dazu was good, we can still improve further so I hope that everyone practices their speech day songs more! Also, please try to remember and note down what Mr Lee says during dazu, especially the dynamics of the song such as play softer, louder, soft to loud, etc. Lets all practice more together and give our best for the speech day performance! JiaYous! :D

Hi Guys!

The AWESOME VSCO June Residential Camp'2011 has ended recently D:
For those who were not able to be present, im really sorry you had to miss out all the fun and excitement XP.

Anyway, throughout the camp, many pictures were taken and they are being uploaded to Facebook right now so please feel free to browse through them and tag yourself and your friends!
First Album: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150227113553830.342048.589678829&closeTheater=1
The other albums have not been uploaded yet as there are approximately 5 or more albums of pictures. They will be uploaded to Bernard's profile, so here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/Jangoru If you do not know, Bernard is our current Student Conductor and he is uploading the pictures right now at this moment!

I really really hope you guys enjoyed the camp even though it was tiring and tested your mental and physical endurance, including the fact that there was combined practice the next day, but please remember that the committee worked extra hard to make this camp possible and are equally or even more tired than you are :D. I'm sorry if the prizes were not those kind of expensive chocolates, etc. However, everyone has already won the biggest prize-- experience and enjoyment gained from the camp! Hence, I hope that everyone will be able to take home with them priceless memories of your experiences in the camp, from the fun and laughter during the station games to the eerie silence during the night walk.

If there are any suggestions to improve future camps, please feel free to write something in the chatbox in the blog! Tomorrow is the beginning of a new term in school, and I hope that everyone is ready for school! Please don't fall sick! Please note that there will be sectionals tomorrow, and please gather at 2.45pm for practice. For now, lets concentrate on our 3 speech day songs for our speech day performance! This will be the first performance for many of you, and I hope that the whole orchestra will be able to participate in this, hence I really need you guys to practice harder for the performance as those who are not able to perform well enough will not be allowed to perform.

Hahahahahhaha enjoy the last day of your holidays!

-Darren :)
