a bad day @ work
(Friday, October 26, 2007/9:45 AM)

Sometimes I wonder if I’m cut off for this job..

Yeah, am a ‘human relationship’ kinda person, but I think what happened on Wednesday challenged my emotional take on this job.

I am with the service side of the industry where we deal with consumers and that day in day out we deal with almost every kinda people… good, bad, ugly and insane alrite!

I think wateva I am writing today hopefully give all of us an insight of how bad we behave as consumers, especially we, Singaporeans alike.

Being in service quality of things, we usually address customers by formal salutations like, “dear mr so and so” or even “sir, or ma’am”.. common rite? Its almost like a daily script for all service providers, especially engaging customers upfront or on the phone, answering to their quandaries.

On Wednesday, it was different. As usual, I pick up the phone to dial a customer’s number to address his feedback and issues that he was having against my organisation. Lemme share with you my telephone conversation with him then.

(disclaimer : I do not write this to put fire on any racial ties that we Singaporeans should have when we’re always reiterated the fact that we’re a multi racial country? And I do not wish to be detained under the ISD Act or any legal letters flying my way? Geddit?)

Me : Good morning Mr “Jackass” (name hidden to protect stoopidity) My name’s siti and calling from “organisation’s name”.

Before I could eva finish explaining and introducing myself, he cut me off with this crap!

Mr Jackass : Whats wrong with you Siti? (believe me I was like HUHHHHH???!!)

Me : Sorry sir, I did not get wat you mean..

Mr Jackass : I do not want to be called “MR JACKASS” I want to be called just JACKASS! I do not wish to be called sir.. I am cheena. What is wrong with just calling me JACKASS?

Me : (taking into stride of the whole situation) Right. Sorry Asshole! Ekkhs salah script.. Sorry Jackass!

You see wat I meant? Some people are just plain pure jerks.

Moral of Story : Why don’t we start to become valuable consumers before we even think of having valuable service? Because it does indefinitely begins from US.

Yeah I know that some service providers are uber phucked up, but hey, I speak for wat I’ve gone thru as a service provider.. and I always check myself when I switch my role to ‘consumer’ mode. I think that makes the difference. ~winks~

So, that’s my story for da day.. Come let us make da difference?.. InsyaALLAH. Aamin!
