Covers to Covet

Maya Banks' new series Breathless has new covers!!!  What do you think?  I'm not sure how I feel about these.  Even though they are pretty, I don't think these are good covers for a series that will be similar to her Sweet series.

Rush
Breathless # 1
by Maya Banks

Gabe, Jace, and Ash: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Gabe, it’s making one particular fantasy come true with a woman who was forbidden fruit. Now she’s ripe for the picking...

When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. Their relationship is intense and obsessive, but as they cross the line from secret sexual odyssey to something deeper, their affair runs the risk of being exposed—and vulnerable to a betrayal far more intimate than either expected.

ARC Review: Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks

Never Seduce a Scot
by Maya Banks
(The Montgomerys & Armstrongs)

Never Seduce a Scott is what Scottish Historical Romance genre is all about. It is an astounding love story that had me in tears. But be forewarned, this book will give you a book hangover and your next book will for sure to put you in a book slump.

The Armstrongs and the Montgomerys are feuding clans that go back centuries and their hate towards each other are ingrained from childhood. As a last resort to end this quarrel, King Alexander II decides to marry them off. Both clans are furious but a forced alliance was made through Graeme and Eveline’s marriage.

Maya Banks did a wonderful job with Graeme as the hero, a total Scottish alpha male. He is every bit romantic, as he is a warrior. Everyone respected him, all the women wanted him and he is well endowed!!! He is the exact alpha I love to read about.

Eveline, is known to be “daft” but yet, forced into a marriage without knowing her groom, live in his household, deal with his clan who hates her, not to mention she has a disability but somehow survived it all. She stood tall, proud and made the worse situation to a better one without help or a pity party. I cheered for her right from the start and reading about her was so uplifting. Let me tell you this chick rocked.
Maya Banks did well to put these two very strong personalities together without clashing to a disaster. It was so easy to fall for them both. The Romance was just epic!!!

Never Seduce a Scot is without a doubt. one of my top reads of the year!

Love the series and all but have to admit that this is the BEST cover so far!  What do you girls think?  Have we met him before?  Because either my brain is total mush or I just don't remember him.  But I'll be thinking about Mike now because holy hell he's hot!  Can't wait!
Carly's NY Times Bestselling SERENDIPITY series was such a hit with readers, she brings you back to the picturesque upstate NY town, where three siblings have grown up in the shadow of their proud and respected police chief father. But what do love, fate, and fortune have in store for the next generation of Serendipity's finest?

MIKE

Back in the shadow of his family, he's as lost and restless as ever, until he's challenged by someone he never anticipated.

CARA

Can't wait!!!!

No covers yet, but did you know about Maya Banks' new series Breathless?  To fill the void left by her Sweet series she's announced she will be releasing a new trilogy.  The first book RUSH is set to release February 2013 and here's what she had to say about it:

For those of you familiar with my Sweet Series, these new books will be very much that same flavor with a mix of my Harlequin Desires as well. I've kingly said that if you take the heroine from Tycoon's Rebel Bride and put her with Damon from Sweet Persuasion you have a good idea of the first book heh
Cannot wait for this!!!!  RUSH will be closely followed by FEVER (April 2013) and BURN (August 2013).

Review: Softly at Sunrise by Maya Banks

Softly at Sunrise
by Maya Banks
(KGI # 5.5)

Well....a couple of things first.  Even though this story is #5.5 in the series, this actually takes place in the middle of book six.  However, there is only one minor reference to something that I guess happens in that book and everything else is independent.

Problem with automatically buying books by an author you like?  You stop reading blurbs.  At least I do.  Anyway, I'm reading this series already so of course I bought this the day it came out.  But here's the problem.  This story is mainly about Ethan and Rachel.  My least favorite couple in the series.

Ethan and Rachel have had the worst time getting together and quite frankly I had some issues to start with in their book (#1) because their marriage was already in shambles when she got taken and tortured.  How could their marriage be at that low point and then after she's gone through so much we can expect a HEA?  I do think this short story was needed because it gives an epilogue to their romance.  If not an epilogue it opens up another chapter.

I wish I could've seen a little more of them connecting in this story, however they are the same distant people.  Except now Rachel is pregnant...with twins.  And she started working again.

At least I'm happy to see some of the Kelly family that I was missing in the last book!

I cannot tell you how excited I am to read PJ & Cole's book though.  They might take the top spot as my favorite couple (now occupied by Sam and Sophie).

Elle feels safe with her two protectors, and the longer she spends with them, the more she realizes that she has no desire to remember her past. Not when it could compromise her future with Cade and Merrick.

ARC Review: Cherished by Maya Banks and Lauren Dane

Cherished
by Maya Banks and Lauren Dane
(Delicious # 1)

Book Overview
Both these stories are contemporary BDSM erotic romances.  As a whole I enjoyed the book, but definitely one more than the other.  Ms. Dane is kicking off a new series with Sway.  I'm not sure if Maya Banks will continue writing a series after Exiled or if it's a standalone.

Exiled by Maya Banks - 3 Stars
I was extremely excited to read this story, then I started reading and... well, I wasn't so excited anymore.  From the very beginning I felt like I couldn't connect to this story.  Briefly, the premise is of a girl that used to work in a palace.  The prince of said palace took a liking to her after seeing her just a few times and talking to her in passing only once.  When politics go to hell in the country and his family is forced to leave, he finds refuge in a beautiful island but he has his "people" make an arrangement with the girl that she will get an education and treatment for her sick mother in France, but when Prince Alexander wants, he will collect on that debt.  That right there annoyed the crap out of me!  So then yes he collects, but he has the nerve to collect by having her have sex with not only him but 3 other guys.  Yes count them... FOUR men.  Then the story gets going and there is a lot of sex, some that I should've been getting into, but I just couldn't.  I don't know if the dynamic of the m/m/m/m/f was not working for me as it should, or the fact of how it all came to be bothered me.  I can't put my finger on it.  I did enjoy some scenes and parts of this book, but overall I struggled reading this story and took me forever to finish it.

Sway by Lauren Dane - 4 Stars
I am soooooo excited that we are getting a spin-off of the Brown Siblings!  I love how the characters are always artsy, tattooed, pierced and just not your average Joe or Mary.  The Delicious series will basically follow the women that we met during Never Enough, Gillian's friends.  First up is Daisy.  She's a beautiful latina, she's a part time dance instructor and a full time artist who works alongside her grandmother in their own shop.  She's not the typical woman you would think a well to do man would want to bring home to meet the parents.  She's outspoken, she has a lot of tattoos, and some piercings in interesting places.  She's also young.  All this is going through Levi's head when he meets Daisy and faith keeps putting her in his path.  Their attraction was instant!  They accidentally meet at a dance class and sparks start flying in all directions.  Levi has a bit of a dark and repressed past.  Things he had to deal with from his ex-wife and his family.  And then there's the issue of him being older than her.  There are many things I liked about this story.  Obviously the connection between the characters made the whole "couple" believable.  They were obviously perfect for each and incredibly compatible.  I also LOVED Daisy.  I fell in love with all of Gillian's friends in Never Enough and I can honestly say I still adore them.  Daisy is no exception.  She takes life by the balls and does what she wants.  And instead of overthinking the whys she shouldn't be with Levi she kept moving forward and doing what her heart told her to.  I also really liked that she didn't jump into bed with him right away.  The respect she has for herself sets her apart from every other woman Levi has known before.  What got a little on my nerves was Levi.  Yes, his attitude made sense for who he was and what he'd been through in his life.  That doesn't mean I had to like it.  Other than that he was extremely hot, especially when he let go of his preconceptions and let his wild side free. ;)  As a reader of the Brown Siblings series I loved all the cameos and I think I see a setup for one of the girls in this upcoming series with maybe one of Levi's brothers.  It might happen.  I am definitely excited to read TART.

Fall Into You
Loving on the Edge # 3
by Roni Loren

He’ll do anything for you. But you’d better say please.

When tomboy sports reporter Charli Beaumonde loses a dream TV job because she’s not girly enough for primetime, she’s determined to land a big scoop and prove her boss made a mistake. But when she gets too close to a football scandal and finds her life threatened, Charli accepts an offer from family friend Grant Waters to hide out at his place—even if Grant predicts nothing but trouble from his buddy’s hard-headed, uncompromising, irrepressible, younger sister. There’s one more problem…

Grant’s “place” is The Ranch, a BDSM resort in Texas, and he’s used to being in charge —even if that means trying to keep Charli in line. But much to Grant’s surprise, she’s intrigued—even envious—of his trainees. They’re the epitome of what she’s never been: sexy, beguiling, and totally irresistible to a man. Still, Grant doesn’t believe for a minute that the sharp-tongued Charli has it in her to be anyone’s submissive. But Charli’s already on her knees vying for the chance to prove that even the Master can be wrong sometimes.

ARC Review: Echoes at Dawn by Maya Banks

3.5 Feathers
Echoes at Dawn
by Maya Banks
(KGI # 5)

Rio is the perfect romantic suspense alpha hero.  At least that's what I thought every time he showed up in this series before.  Then he made it his mission to go after Grace Peterson and rescue her.  Well somehow between that decision and what went down in this book he lost some of that alpha appeal.

This book started out strong for me and slowly fizzled out some of the charm.  At times it felt we weren't getting much progression in the overall story although there was a lot of action.

Grace seemed a lot stronger and ended up being a more delicate type of heroine, even though still stronger than her sister Shea in my opinion.  Grace and Rio still worked well as a couple though, him being the strong protector and relying on her powers at times and there was still some spark.  As a couple I have to say I liked them a lot better than the previous book.  Although the romance might've felt a bit rushed, and I would've liked their connection to develop through a longer period of time.  Rio was still a pretty strong hero even though he was toned down from what I expected.

And then there's the Kelly's...this is not a Kelly family book.  They were mostly absent in this story and I expect the same from the next book as well.  I do expect the next book to be a little more to my liking, being that it's PJ and Cole.  Playful but hard.

ARC Review: Colters' Promise by Maya Banks

Colters' Promise
by Maya Banks
(Colters' Legacy # 4)

Colters' Promise takes place around the holidays in Clyde, Colorado . We find the entire Colter clan planning to spend the holidays together. Holly and her husbands, Adam, Ethan, and Ryan are now in their fifties, proud parents of their wonderful brood. Holly is so excited to finally have all of her children in one place that she plans to do something unprecedented with the help of daughter in law Lily.

Lily on the other hand is having a crisis of her own that has her beloved husbands thinking she is unhappy with her life with them. Her past is haunting her and struggles to get beyond it.

Callie and Max decide to bring in Max’s sister Lauren, who has been terribly abused by her boyfriend. Callie and Max travel to New York to bring Lauren home to understand the true meaning of family.

When a health issue lands Holly in the hospital, every Colter unites to make this Colter Christmas the most memorable for all.

In Maya Banks’ Colter’s Promise, we get snippets of each the couplings in the family. We see how after so many years together, Holly and her men are still so in love and still show each other every single day how they feel. Through example, their three sons, Seth, Michael and Dylan show Lily how to trust and open herself to them. Max strives to balance his dominant side with her complete love for his wife, the only Colter daughter, Callie.

I really enjoyed this Colter tale. I only wish it could have been longer. A Christmas reunion is such a wonderful story to tell. You see the family at their highs and some lows and you even get some wonderful surprises that are perfect for the time.
