Memories...& Pun Chun Restaurant, Bidor

I had the opportunity to drop by Pun Chun in Bidor while on the way back from one my my quick out of town trips...I was swept away with nostalgic memories of the previous time I was in Pun Chun, Bidor.  It was one of the stops we made during our Drive For Food.  Our group, Fantastic Four/ACT (Apple Crumble Team) were one of the finalists.  It's been a while and posted in the past, but let's just take a trip back in time.  We had the most fun coming up with our team submission video to The Star which was the one that got us picked to be in the finals.  It always bring a smile to my face whenever I think about that time and see the videos we did.  You'll see some familiar faces there .....enjoy!

So, stepping into Pun Chun, Bidor after all that time brought a warm feeling and yes, it was also a hot sunny day :o).  But I knew what to order, it's ingrained into me.

Hot Dogs For Breakfast! Toronto, Canada

As mentioned from my previous post on Canada, we got to try the hot dogs for breakfast in Toronto. There are several mobile hot dog vendors (3 of them) within walking distance from Sheraton Centre and City Hall. Ahh...The Original Bavarian Bratwurst Wagon Co.

Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodles @ SS2, PJ (New Location)

I had written about Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodles a few years back when Julian was still operating a stall in the Restoran Khasiat coffee shop in Section 17. However, Julian got a place a couple of months back in SS2 (No. 54, Jalan SS2/4A) and is now operating in a shop lot of his own.

Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodles

I'm glad it's still in Petaling Jaya and rather nearby and I've been making my rounds there once again. I just love the beef cuts and broth - yummy! I like the dry noodle (it comes with a bowl of soup on the side) while some prefer soup noodle. Take your pick together with your selection of beef cuts :o)

Here's To Mondays ...

Had a lovely weekend (mainly boosted by West End Stars Concert! It was really good...), so much so, that Monday looks good too, hahaha....I shall do a short post with some miscellaneous pics (taken with my handphone again) to greet the week ahead.  Have a good one folks!

I Really Gotta Go!
I Really Gotta Go!

I only eat stuff that looks good when it's alive.
Should have bought it! Since then, I use this line for food that I don't eat! Hahaha....

Oh well, it's time for me to call it a night....Till then...

Good Night!

Ko Hyang Korean Country Delights, NOW @ One Mont Kiara!

(PORK-FREE)

Yay! One of my fave Korean eateries is now nearer to me.  Ko Hyang opened recently in One Mont Kiara and I've been going there pretty regularly since it's near to my office.  I've blogged on Ko Hyang at The Gardens, Mid Valley City before, read about it HERE.

By now, most folks are aware of this well known simple Korean food eatery but there's one thing I concluded from eating at Ko Hyang, One Mont Kiara.  Can you handle the truth??? Hahaha...Come closer to the monitor screen now.... Okay, ready? Wait, will I regret telling you folks this? Will I find myself waiting for a vacant table after this?  Will the quality be compromised when it starts getting crowded? Okay, okay...here goes.

While Ko Hyang @ The Gardens already dishes out delicious Korean delights, Ko Hyang @ One Mont Kiara does it EVEN BETTER; both in terms of taste and presentation.  (You can do some comparison by clicking on my previous post to check out the photos there with the ones posted here - these recent ones were taken with my Sony Ericsson phone though).  I haven't tried the other locations at Sunway Pyramid and Fahrenheit  88, I wonder how they fare.

I usually have either Kimchi Fried Rice, Jap Chae or Dolsot Bim Bim Bab. Remember that I said that it's better here at One Mont Kiara in terms of presentation too? Check out these photos and the ones on Ko Hyang's website...The presentation is almost the same as the pictures on the menu, WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), unlike The Gardens.

Dol Sot Bim Bim Bap
Did you look at the pics from their website? See what I mean? This is the Dol Sot Bim Bim Bab-Stone Pot Rice with mixed vegetables, chili paste and your choice of beef or chicken.

Jap Chae
Jap Che - look at the garnishing.  Notice the julienned omelette? They actually separate the egg white from the yolk (just like the pic on the menu), thus adding even more colours to this delicious stir fried sweet potato noodles with vegetables.  Again, you can have a choice of beef or chicken (it's always beef for me!).  This noodles are fragrant and not oily.

Must Order(s) @ Sim Hap Ke, Taman Connaught, Cheras

(NON-HALAL)

NO LONGER IN OPERATION

Yes, the title says it all. Since my first visit here with Precious Pea back in 2009, I've been coming back to Sim Hap Ke now and then as I absolutely love their dishes. If it was not for the fact that it's in Cheras, I would surely dine at Sim Hap Ke even more often. I've also passed the love on to Jason and other non-bloggers like Ash and Kev (who would drive over and pack a dish or two just for his own consumption, definitely no sharing from him! hahaha...) and they too are in love with Sim Hap Ke dishes.

So, what else is there to say but to just let you know what are those dishes that I love...and that if you are ever there (for the first time) and don't know what to order...here are some dishes that you might want to try. Well, these are my "must order(s)" whenever I'm there - I don't eat all these in one visit of course!
Caution : with such delicious dishes (especially those with gravy), one is bound to order an extra bowl (or two) of rice!

Salt & Pepper Deep Fried Squid
Now, this is tricky...Sim Hap Ke dishes up their Deep Fried Squid great...tricky 'cos you gotta choose between the Salt & Pepper

OR

Salted Egg Yolk Deep Fried Squid
The Salted Egg Yolk style ...obviously the Salted Egg Yolk has a "heavier" batter as compared to the "cleaner" Salt & Pepper but seriously, both are great.

Jessica Johnson Tea Room @ Bandar Sri Damansara, KL

UPDATE AS AT 2013 :
JESSICA JOHNSON is now open on
Tuesday - Thursday  8.30am to 5.30pm.

Friday - Sunday 12pm to 9pm
Close on Monday

Well, I've been to this place a few times ... and I do love this place for it is cozy and peaceful dining here. Little has been blogged about Jessica Johnson and I wonder if it's because us regulars actually want to keep Jessica Johnson away from others; our little secret of our hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city or for other reasons that I do not know off. But I think it's only right that I pass this along ...

It's easy to walk pass this place and not notice it. The small shoplot that's sandwiched by mostly auto repair shops, it's located a few shops away from Pos Malaysia. There's an easel displaying some rather small pics of food along with some handwritten description just outside its swing glass door that is plastered with window stickers. Go through the door and you'll see a small table on the left that is actually a tiny office space where one can buy general insurance and renew their road tax! To your right, you'll see a bakery section and further along in...about 5 tables (small and large) resembling a cosy English Tearoom with classical decor and surrounded by artificial silk flowers and rustic looking cabinets (which are for sale too!) I kid you not! See for yourself!
