Infiniheart is Chad Vangaalen's first album."Maybe this is just an American's projection onto our northerly neighbors, but I imagine Chad VanGaalen knows the cold very intimately. He hails from Calgary, where he busked street corners and subways for years, gradually building up a large catalog of original songs. Using a variety of instruments and equipment-- some of which he's fashioned by hand-- the relentless DIY'er has recorded hundreds of his songs in a makeshift studio in his bedroom, where you can imagine him retreating from a frigid evening."
Nikakoi or Nika Machaidze is part of the Goslab film, video, art, and music collective, and is a studied film director. This is his first album. Nika is from a country called Georgia in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. I first heard from Nikakoi in a compilation from the best electronic music singles released on 2002 called Indietronica.
Early Works For Me if It Works For You is a three CD set, CD's 1 and 2 are a re-release of albums released in 1998 on the Phthalo record label called Early Works for Me If It Works for You. This is the third CD, Early Works for Me If It Works for You II.
Yellow House—recorded in a house off Cape Cod, one which, yes, just happens to be yellow—maintains their debut’s DIY aesthetic, its blood is thicker, with plenty of strings, subtle electronic flourishes, and a more rhythmic base. The result is a prodigious leap for the band, combining their deft sense of atmosphere with a renewed attention to songcraft and, perhaps more importantly, album-craft.
The Born like this LP features contributions from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and the beats of late production genius J Dilla, and represents seven years of work recorded on and off at home in Atlanta.
The Books make Aleatoric music ("its course is determined in general but depends on chance in detail") Nick Zammuto plays acoustic guitar and electric bass and Paul de Jong is a cellist. Together they incorporate samples of sounds, speech and music to create their songs.
Thought For Food is The Books first album. It contains all the characteristic elements of their sound
DeVotchKa is a four piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble that fuses Romani, Greek, Slavic, Bolero, Mariachi (and many more styles) music with American punk and folk roots. Based in Denver.
Nick Urata (vocals, theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano and trumpet) Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion and piano) Jeanie Schroder (vocals, sousaphone, double bass) Shawn King (percussion and trumpet)
Rodrigo Amarante( singer/guitarist for Los Hermanos ), Fabrizio Moretti( drummer for The Srokes ) and Binki Shapiro( multi-instrumentalist/female vocals ) are Little Joy.
Amarante and Moretti met at a music festival where both their bands were performing, they latter came up with the idea to start a new musical project unrelated to their respective bands. In 2007, Rodrigo Amarante traveled to Los Angeles to collaborate with Devendra Banhart on his Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon album where Amarante and Moretti met multi-instrumentalist Binki Shapiro through mutual acquaintances. The band was named "Little Joy" after a cocktail lounge not far from their house in L.A.
Their debut album was recorded with the help of producer Noah Georgeson, whom Amarante met during his sessions with Devendra Banhart. It was released by Rough Trade Records on November 4, 2008.
One thought, has me turning back A dozen point the other way We act upon desire To reach your hand for higher And patience isn't worth the wait
You've got knifes in your eyes You would be happy not to change your mind I can't defend you truly When I worry about smoke instead of putting out the fire
And if we work it out Chances are bound we'd be standing around for no one's better sake good-bye
What are we waiting for? What are we waiting for? What are we waiting for? What are we waiting for?
What are we waiting for? What are we waiting for?
What are we waiting for?
How faint might that light become You focus 'bout miles away Although my position Just gives you ammunition You're certain that I know my place
So is this how it ends Oh with a whimper in the place of bang I can't defend you truly When I worry about smoke instead of putting out the fire
And if we work it out Chances are bound we'd be standing around for no one's better sake good-bye
We would be friends if we'd try again I'd take second place just to end the race for no one's better sake Good-bye
