colour me happy

we had a power surge on accommodation services on friday night, it was out til saturday arvo. my initial thought was "oh no! i need to pee, what if the toilet doesn't flush?! our toilet has no windows, hence no moonlight.. creepy!" i ended up manning up and visiting the bathroom by torch light twice that night..

i spent the first hour without power lying in bed [cos it was cold - no heating : (] trying to read my torch light - bad idea, strained my eyes. then i listened to the radio on my mp3 before getting up to make myself a salad despite eating dinner only an hour ago.. (seriously, how did people live without light at night?! nothingness equates to hungryness in my world, haha)

then housemate d and a couple of our friends came back and rampaged to my room declaring we should go waste our time with free hot chocolates at the casino. having heard about these amaaaazing hot chocolates (they weren't really, but quite decent for a vending machine drink) for the past year and a bit but never actually stepping foot in the casino, i grasped onto this chance to tag along. honestly, hobart's casino is like an old man's club (or what i'd imagine it to be) - it's small, it's quiet, had only a scattering of old people and played oldie songs.. really, i don't see the appeal in gambling, everyone looks zombiefied in front of their pokie machines. eurgh. like the cheap asian i am i ended up passing my time giggilng my head away over cups of hot chocolate, with housemate d and r's houesmates.

funny story: before leaving our apartment for the casino i was contemplating on leaving my bedroom door ajar (because our doors are activated by a card system and i was paranoid of being locked out of my bedroom) but housemate d said our doors are independent to the main electricity unit and powered by battery so i left it locked.. however, later that night we were greeted by a dead battery in our front door and were locked outside of our house in the pitch dark for a good half an hour - what are the chances?!

agnes makes/cooks/eats..

oodles of noodles!
pretty greenery - kiwi, oats&yogurt, curried tuna salad.
housemate d is not a fan of mussels, so she painstakingly picked all the mussels out of her marina mix and gave them to me. marina mix is no match to fresh seafood but this shall do for i am a poor uni student : D
i am a new red cabbage convert. it's purple, it makes my salads pretty and my soups a deep red/purple. what's not to love about it?! and personally, it tastes the same as green cabbage - if not, nicer.

dedicated to; my other "interchangeable" me & the universally acknowledged rat.

to betty &schmex.
how awesomely curly/wavy is my hair?! au naturel with the added extra oomph by frizz ease spray. dreaaam curls. haha.

oh, and these are some of the laptop cases i was looking at on etsy! though, i have to admit a lot of them are waaay too demure for me to carry off.

my somewhat favourites are the first two - how much does the white/blue case look like a pillow?! perfect for uni naps, haha. the orange/white one is made of sign boards or something alike - totally unique! though, i'm not too sure it has padding (which is what i'm ultimately looking for)

i quite like the colours on the purple one but not the biggest fans of birds, haha.

also, i quite like the navy blue, red lace, white top one (under the dotty case) so neat! again, it is quite demure.

i am a fan of the pop of yellow on the inner flap of the dotty case but big dots are so yesterday ; )

and how awesomely manly does the bottom left grey case look?!

sharing is caring..

my mother's throw all asian sauces&asian bbq sauce marinated chicken wings&drumsticks - a  guaranteed crowd pleaser!
we tried r's friend's mum's zuchinni slice recipe. it's cheesey, it's zuchinnieyy, it's good.
had a good orange sticker day at safeway, the other day - discounted roast chicken, half priced grape tomatoes, half priced turkey chorizos. that night housemate d had cravings for tomato spaghetti sauce, i wanted something baked. we minced the chorizos and made baked tomato sauce rice. soo warmy.

armed with orange juice&black forest chocolate.

agnes cooks..

i am really a fan of lazy dinners. ie. dumping frozen meat into the cooker, pressing the on button and then scooping the whole lot out an hour later. my favourite braised pork belly mother makes.
spaghetti marinara. mm.
i got peckish one afternoon so put together a bowl of whatever i could find in the fridge - safeway roast chicken, capsicum, cheese, basil and mayo. so delish!

baked cream of mushroom cauliflower rice. breadcrumbs are the bomb!
minced pork, shitake shrooms and bean soup noodles.
leftover noodle toppings, safeway roast chicken and a soft boiled egg (look at the runny yolk!)

after putting this bowl together, i have concluded that since i like eggs but i can't peel them for the life of me. i shall have to marry an enthusiastic egg peeler to satisfy my boiled/soft boiled/half boiled egg cravings. haha.

in a moment

agnes cooks..

sardine noodles with egg topped with gai lan.
my baked curry cauliflower that didn't really taste like curry. it was all good until i added the cauliflower then this dish just turned sweet, haha.
the next day, i added extra salt and chilli powder for taste and housemate d couldn't take the heat. oops!
err in attempt to keep up with my housemate's mentality of getting fit. half-half red&white rice.
it's actually quite a nice combo but we've run out of white rice since, so now we're eating half red, half basmati mix. the texture is a bit like eating seeds.
my quick fix, one pot, easy wonder dinner.
dump the frozen salmon  from tassal, no less, in the rice cooker and allow it to steam while the rice cooks.
it's a lot more tasty than it looks, i'm just incompetent at scooping rice out of the cooker..
assam seafood and mustard green (gai choy) quick soup. carbs, meat and a soup all in one - oh my, my type of meal.
the next day we added fish to our leftover assam curry and turned it into a hybrid of assam curry/assam laksa with udon noodles. ohh so yum. my only complaint is that one packet of udon noodles should not be considered as a single serving of noodles. i'd count that as 3/4 serving of noodles at most. heh.
 minestrone, friends.

last night i made a huge pot of what was meant to be minestrone but forgot to buy celery despite looking at the celery pile at the shops and sending it psychic waves to say i was going to purchase it. alas, the celery failed me and didn't respond to my psychic waves so i ended up making this capsicum, tomatoey soup which was yum in its own right. i have dubbed said capsicum soup as tex-mex soup though i am actually not too sure what is tex-mex..
i have had many a lazy days this week with cooking meals for myself. i don't think i could ever get sick of eating eggs. runny yolk mixed with rice and soy sauce is right next to jook in terms of comfort foods.
cheeesey bacon, celery, garlic and tomato spaghetti. it was way more appetising than it looks but then again i was really hungry when i cooked it, haha.
i don't think i'll ever grow old of eggs. potato omlette, best eaten with rice and soup. yum yum yum.
