I love May.
This May especially has been great because we have been able to enjoy such beautiful weather! It seems like we skipped the yucky brown early spring and dove straight into late spring! All the flowers, the new growth, baby animals and sunshine.
I love May because we get to celebrate Mother's Day. Or should I say, celebrate our Mothers. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful and loving mom. I love our relationship and I love her to pieces. Being a mom has really put into perspective all she's done and continues to do for my siblings and I. She's also a wonderful grandmother and my girls sure are blessed to have her. They love her so much!
I have been blessed with a wonderful mother-in-law also and through marriage, gained a few extra grandmas whom are all very special to me.
I know we love and appreciate these woman daily, but I especially love that there is a day dedicated to them. I love getting together with my siblings and how happy it makes my mom when we are all together. And it's thanks to her that I have such great sisters and a fun brother!
I love the flowers and the green. I love the smells of May. I love the colors. My mom and sisters and I went on a little girls getaway this month and got to enjoy some of beautiful SLC in May. So lovely!
I love my annual hometown spring celebration! It's like an early, summer kick-off! The last few years it's just been my mom, sisters, me and my girls who have attended. We don't complain that our men stay home. It's fun just us girls :) We sit in the same spot each year for the parade, watch just about the same floats each year, get lots of candy that usually ends up in the garbage, go to the park and walk the same booths each year and have lunch. Traditions. Love them. Lots of memories from doing this as a kid and I love that my kids are starting to make those memories now.
Since marrying Brian, we've been going to his hometown celebration each May. The booths, the parade, then a BBQ at his parents. I think we went to the horse-pulls once or twice? Well, now it's our hometown too! Yeah! We took the girls to the horse-pulls this year and I hope we can do it every year! I just love the environment! People on blankets, the blechers packed, people standing wherever they can squeeze to watch the horses, chat with friends, enjoy greasey food and soak up the small town feel. My dad and sis joined us for the fun and I think my dad is happy we are starting to make this tradition. I know he has enjoyed the horse-pulls for years. Emmy loved the horses and even got to pet a few of the HEAVY weight class. THEY ARE HUGE!!! I think my friend said just one of their horses weighs in at 2500lbs! They sure are neat to see.
May is a pretty busy month around here. With Emmy's birthday and all these other fun celebrations and traditions, we have plenty to do. It's not over yet either! Memorial day is just around the corner. I always look forward to getting together with family for a cook out and celebrating loved ones who have gone before us and those who have served our country.
Yup, I love May.
