Subject registration can be exciting...
As I am working at BMERC, I was at the BIE computer lab together with fellow coursemates to register at the "supposedly lagless computers" at BIE. Honestly, I was still at quite a bit of a loss even 5 mins before the "clicking" starts... (those who are NTU students should know what I'm talking about...). Thank goodness one of senior (not to be named cause she'll be cocky) was with us to help us, but seriously, thanks!
I haven't had so much fun working with fellow BIE-ians (new term...by me). It was strikingly different with other groups, be it JC or Secondary school. It is a totally fresh job experience where human interaction is great and the work is never mundane, organizing open houses and dinners... Really want to thank my group for the nice fellowship!
Will post pictures of our activities soon...

Finally...end of exams!!!
Having said these, it is now 1 down, 6 more exam seasons to go before I graduate. If you add up the maths, there will be 1 semester where I'll be going for industrial attachment, so no exams for that semester. Such is the life of an engineering student...
After going through "so much", I realized that I have not put in my 100% for this exams and was very distracted with lots of things (namely this laptop...). Seeing how competitive my coursemates are, I felt especially like a loser after a paper when we start to compare answers. Luckily I got over it and blamed it on a lack of discipline... I strongly felt that I could have done better for this examinations...seeing the amount of silly mistakes I made which would otherwise be corrected.
1 month for repenting till the start of another school term. For those reading this, please help me by reminding me about the last examination. Fresh wounds hurt badly...thanks!

Outside my room window...

Using the program mode to take, supposedly the most natural shot as dictated by the camera's processor. Late evening, so there is still some light for shorter shutter speeds.
1/6 s , f 3.2 , ISO 200
.
.

Taken using Manual mode, used ISO 100 to force the camera to take at longest possible shutter speed. However, this picture is a overexposed, lights too bright. I was trying to get the "saturated colour" effect similar to that taken by professionals of night urban landscape.
5 s , f 5.6
.
.

Love the colours of this picture, I put the saturation to +1 for a more pronounced effect. Able to see the contrast and the 3D effect. This is an evening photo...I've seen better sunset. Too bad camera not with me!
1/400 s , f8.0 , ISO 100
.
.

Taken in the morning once I woke up. The grandiousness of the large chunk of cumulonimbus clouds grabbed me! Can't seem to capture the radiance of the white clouds on my camera...SLR maybe better...!
1/400 s , f8.0 , ISO 100
.
.

Just to illustrate the limitations of a digital camera (maybe more for point and shoot cameras). You get a nice exposure for the clouds (brighter) but sacrifice the darker areas (land), something our naked eye can't see (eyes are perfect). Need to use the auto-bracketing function on higher end cameras ... and on DSLRs. Wonder if the future holds the technology to harness the accuracy of our retina for photography...maybe can apply my course of study into this area and revolutionize photography!!!
1/320 s , f5.6 , ISO 100

Mind your words...
Lift closes and went a floor up when it stopped. The 2 students instead of excusing their way out...they kept quiet and push their way out...literally shoving some of the girls aside to get out. All the while I was holding the "open" button of the lift....whats the rush?
After the fiasco, the lift closes and we recovered from the little outburst...but my local friend have to say something, "Aiyoh! China people like dat wan...tch tch!".
The whole lift went silent, cold and uncomfortable all of a sudden. Why? One of my coursemate inside the lift comes from China...... Luckily it was said in more of a jest tone and he promptly apologizes to our china friend.
But this does not end.
On the way out to Canteen A after the last lecture only an hour after the incident... something happens. Another local friend and me were trudging our way to the bus stop with a group of foreign students (from my course) in front of us.
There was a buffet spread outside one of the Lecture Theatre. Two of the girls in the group in front of me and my friend were excited and approached the buffet, pointing here and there and making squeals of excitement.
However, one of the girls in the group, an indian national, quickly exclaimed in thick indian accent, "Now now, don't act like a typical Singaporean...!"..............................
Funny, but the typical Singaporeans (my friend and I) are not in the least bit keen on the buffet...
I'm not here to critisize people on their racist or cultural(ist) remarks, just find it curious that both sides have something to say about each other, whether we know it or not. But whatever the case, please try to refrain from talking bad about others, whether openly or privately.
Remember, don't be a typical Singaporean...only know how to complain...
New Minor Programme in NTU...
DT 1001 is specially catered to those who enjoys the game DOTA. The first module consisting of 3 AUs, requires student to only clock three hours playing the game on the school's Battlenet each week. As the strict requirement for a minor programme consists of 15 AU, DT 1001 is repeated for 5 semesters for completion of the programme. However DT 2001 is for those who has a preference to finish the programme in only one semester by clocking 15 hours a week, which is highly attainable to a segment of the school's population.
The course requires student to be able to master at least 50% of the game heroes and also to play efficiently well for the rest. Results will be based on hours fulfilled, number of games played and number of wins achieved. Professors will not be assessing students for this course, peer to peer evaluation will be used as a basis for the final grade for this course.
As a high proportion of hostelites and also non-hostelites of NTU are fans of this game, much time have been spent by them. Hence, a group of ardent fans have send in a request to the school to allow a course in DOTA. As the school is concerned about the amount of time spent on the game, it would be imperative to include DOTA as one of the minor programme so as not to waste students time and effort.
However, the school has indicated that for those not taking this programme, it is highly not recommended to play long hours as it does not contribute academically to their honours. Other recommendations to students not pursuing the course includes deleting the game, playing another game and getting a girlfriend.
Lastly, the course would be put into immediate effect once Prof Hoo of APNA (Academic Planning in Niche Areas) has resumed his position after his stint in East Timor. In the meantime, students are encouraged to think twice about playing DOTA excessively!

Stuck...
Do you leave splotches of liquid paper, scores of cancel markings, pencil scribbles, all in the name of attempting to break the "seemingly-unsolvable-but-I-CAN-DO-IT" maths question?
Or do you just throw your hands up in defeat and exclaim with gusto to your soft toys "Cometh taketh me!!! I'm undoned"?
Try this.
Quiet down and pick up the phone...call your friend up. Gee...sirs will help you out! Bless you!
