New York | Top of the Rock

A highlight from our New York trip was a visit to the Top of the Rock, which easily has the best views of Manhattan. I've been up both the Rockefeller Centre and Empire State Building before, and the Rockefeller is by far my favourite. My main reason for preferring it is the queues were a lot smaller both times I've been, but you have the added bonus of having the Empire State in all of your photos from the observatory. You're also a lot closer to Central Park and get a much better view of upper Manhattan.

Next time I go back I will definitely be going up both buildings, the Empire State is so iconic and worth every dollar.

New York | Day Three

On our third day in the big apple we decided to head up to towards Central Park via Grand Central Terminal, FAO Schwarz and the Apple store so I could buy a MacBook (eek). The Chrysler building, possibly my favourite building in NYC, is right behind Grand Central Terminal so we killed two birds with one stone and got snaps of both at the same time, architecture heaven!!

The ceiling in Grand Central Terminal is just amazing, I do not envy the poor artists who had to paint it though.

We then headed up 5th Avenue towards FAO Schwarz, stopping for 5 minutes to watch the Salvation Army guys dancing to 1D, they were so so good. You can see a video of them here.

No trip to FAO Schwarz would have been complete without a go on Zoltar, best $1 I spent ha. The lego statues were pretty impressive too!

What I Wore | Dress Up February with George

Something I've been wanting to do for a while on this here blog is share some outfit posts, but I'd never got round to it because, well, I felt a bit awkward in front of the camera. With the lovely people at George encouraging us to dress up this February, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give my first outfit post a go. I definitely got stuck in a fashion rut in January, the cold weather meant dressing more functional rather than fashionable, so I'm excited to be heading into February with a spring in my step and some lovely new clothes.

I absolutely love this houndstooth dress, the material is so comfortable and forgiving, the sleeves are a great length but the only down side is the length. Just a slight stretch and all modesty goes out the window but I will definitely wear it with some thick leggings.

My Second favourite dress was this black number with the crochet collar. I'd been eyeing it up on their website for a long time and I'm so excited to have my hands on it. The waistline is so flattering, it's a comfortable, durable material and something that you could easily wear from work to the pub. I'm a bit fan.

I'm chuffed to bits with the items I picked. I really needed some new dresses to update my wardrobe going into spring and I love that each outfit can be worn to work, on a night out or for a weekend walk. I'm a big fan of supermarket clothing and George have definitely got some great pieces, I can't recommend them enough.

New York | Under the Brooklyn Bridge

After our walk across the Brooklyn Bridge we headed down to the river bank to enjoy the views of Manhattan from Brooklyn, and take a whole lot of photos. It's been on my bucket list to see the skyline at night for a long, long time and I finally got to tick it off. The city looks so beautiful all lit up, but so calm and peaceful considering how many millions of people are scurrying around.

After reading about Janes Carousel on Naomi's blog I really wanted to check it out. I wish we'd been able to go on it and will definitely be heading back there next time, what a view!

If you get the chance to go for a wander around under the Brooklyn Bridge you should definitely check out Brooklyn Industries and a the other quirky stores dotted around. I wish we'd stayed longer.

See ya January

I'm sure I'm not the only one breathing a deep sigh of relief that January is over? The suckiest month of the year is out of the way, the days are beginning to pull out - hello leaving work in day light, spring is well and truly on the way.. things are on the up.

Despite suffering from a major case of the holiday blues - I'm still missing NYC like mad, January was an ok month. Here are some of the highlights:
  • I picked up some new vinyl at Exeter Record Fair
  • We drove up to Hereford to celebrate Amy's 30th birthday at a surprise party
  • There were some spectacular sunsets
  • I made a good start on digging over the grass patch at the allotment - when the ground wasn't frozen anyway
  • Many walks were had in the sunshine
  • I made my first batch of homemade sausage rolls, they were delicious
  • I upped my game at the gym to 6 classes a week, taking up Yoga and Pilates to try something new, I'm already feeling the benefits
I'm hoping for good weather, lots of time up the allotment and some bike rides in February.

Laters, January!
